I've emailed their support team, and it turns out they have set up an import-export trading company in Hong Kong, but they only operate in the United States, with some colleagues in the UK. As far as I know, the core team of Mount to Coast has worked for many years at brands like Nike, Brooks, and New Balance.
This is interesting! Because the company is so new, perhaps they're testing the initial launch in the United States? It seems counter productive for MtC to ignore sales to 95% of the world's population! 🤷🏻♂ However, I suppose it is also a way to control cost; maintaining enough inventory in a single country is a big investment.

Never found a shoe that I wanted to run ON THE ROAD for more than about 18-20mi..I do,but not cos it feels good..that will be the shoe that works for me..don't care what the price is.. have never understood why it's so difficult to make a breathable, lite wt ,cushioned comfortable long distance shoe that has some arche support and a flexible plate that you can't feel..give it speed laces..make it easy to pop off and on to change socks and insoles..other than the Hoka rocket x2 and diadora cara carbon nothing else has the chops..they are as close as I've used..finally some of that Florida heat is starting to drift up this way..thanks😊
Glad to hear your weather is getting a bit warmer, although I would never wish Florida heat on anyone, although I know how warm it can get in summer in your neck of the woods! I haven't run in any Diadora shoes, but the Rocket X2 does fit the bill, except for being easy to take on and off. I have to wrestle that shoe to get it on! 🤣
I've just found out through comments on this video that MtC is only focusing on the U.S. for now. The WRP2 does NOT have a removable insole. It's glued down!
Love your shoe reviews! How is the toe box room & cushioning in comparison to the Altra Experience Flow? The Altra Experience Flows are my current daily trainers but always looking to try other brands. Especially shoes with wider toe boxes 🙏🏽
@@Sonnylorenzo4273 Thanks so much, Sonny! The toe box in the R1 definitely isn’t as wide as the Experience Flow. It’s a much more “normal” toe box shape. With that said, I didn’t have any issues running a 50k in the R1. They felt comfortable the whole time!
You've been waiting for an opportunity to say, "jacquard" haven't you? 😊 I'm totally picking nits here (as I often do), but how do you transcend distance? Distance is finite.
An interesting entry into long distance running shoes! Over the past six months I have added Ultras into my mix of events: three 50K and most recently one 50 Mile. One of the 50K was on road; all others on trail. Not gonna sugar coat it - my feet were tired, more so on the road event. This shoe seems like it’s worth a look - and although 0.16kilobucks is not an inexpensive look, beating up our feet is certainly more expensive!
I'm not sure running an ultra, especially on the road, will ever be particularly easy on our feet, but I like seeing the extra thought going into a shoe that is apparently made for it. As far as the price, I think it is right in line with expectations. It's good to see a company not increasing the price just because they're new and have "different" tech.
It is a sharp looking shoe for a first design. I like mid-stack shoes. I think $160 seems to be a good price and it seems like it was put together with quite a bit of thought process. My research says MTC is apparently a Hong Kong company. The zero-sage insert, is from german BASF and an ultra athlete named Justin Montague covered 854 miles in just 146 Hr and 44 mins using one pair of Mount to coast R1 (in the JOGLE ultra - from John O’Groats to Land’s End in UK) I believe those exterior padding in the heel collar is not just for aesthetics but for giving some rigidity so when you laces pull the collar there is a bit more some structure against heel bone without shrinking interior volume of the shoe. I think that extra structure can be useful if you are using the extra hole in which case it can work to pull the heel tab a bit more forward for better heel lockdown. The downside is extra weight. In Nike Invincible 3 they eliminated those extra paddings from outside of the collar and some people had heel slip as a result. I think they could have accomplish the same thing by incorporating some sort of non-stretch band or overlay extending from the back of heel (from the top) along the heel collar to the top of first couple of holes.

I was considering this shoe but went with the Tyr Valkyrie. I don’t know why but the mount to coast gives me old school bowling shoe vibes. Something Uncle Rico would wear on a Saturday night out on the town
They definitely have those vibes, but that's part of the appeal to me! 🤣 Which Valkyrie did you get? The Elite or the Speedworks? Both are excellent and both are not really comparable to the R1.

Yes. They will work well for that distance. That is the range i've been using them for!
