Thank you! I have been wondering what the meaning of buteo and accipiter was. I faithfully watched the whole Braddock Bay hawk watch season this year trying to get a better handle on raptors
My son Took a photo of a "Hawk" He said that It was BIG, but I Can't ID it. It was Up High, and had a Light Uniform underparts. It also had a Striped Tail, and I Think that it's a light Red Tail, but not With the Three wide Black Band's on it's Tail. My Only Other Guess is a Rough Legged Hawk, but There Are No Shoulder Spot's. I have a Photo, but I Cannot be Certain What It Is, as I Wasn't There When He Saw It. I Am Well-read On The Hawk's and have Seen the Migration Overhead Here At Our Home, and It Was A Day Long Event! What Luck I Had!
I didn't include them since they aren't seen often at the places I hawk watch. Hawkwatchers in the southeast may be more familiar with kites but they become quite rare as you get into the mid-Atlantic and farther north.
I searched accipiters vs. buteo and found you! That was informative and interesting. Just subscribed. Thank you!
Welcome! Glad it was helpful!

Could you tell me how to tell Peregrine falcon from Barbary falcon?
We don't have Barbary falcons here so I am not familiar with their identification, sorry.
