A few months earlier Scotland beat Bulgaria in Sofia, resulting in Ireland qualifying for the Euros first time ever! Our eternal greatfulness Scotland!!
The old Hampden was a magnificent stadium and holds all the European and British attendance records. I remind people of that when they sneer at our game.
It angers me when Wales stadium was built for cheaper than the Hampden renovations has nearly twice the capacity and a retractable roof, whereas our new stadium was more than halved in capacity. Makes me wonder where the money went because it was not towards Hampden.
I was at this match . I remember the evening well . Along with four friends , we stood in the old Rangers end - it was jam packed . It was a hellish wet night ; relentless rain before and throughout the match , which helped Scotland and hindered France . The fans were ecstatic at our well deserved victory .

France had just been to back to back World Cup semi finals and here and Scotland dumping them out of Italia 90. But then when you think about the amount of great players Scotland had at their disposal, yet never got past the group stages.
No, France had lost a lot of their key players from those World Cups. They didn't qualify for Euro 88 and were crap in 1992. They were in the wilderness for about 12 years post Mexico 86. That's not to take anything away from Scotland as they were a good side but helped here by the shocking state of the pitch and France being a shadow of their former selves.
I actually don't remember making this comment. It's a ball on grass, with 22 guys swinging their boots and gloves at it. As much as I did enjoy playing this game. I also despise it, due to the fact that I can't even watch it any more, without going to an establishment that promotes the consumption of alcohol in public. Don't bother replying please.
This was a good Scotland team for sure. Qualified for Italia 90 and then Euro 92, when the Euro's really were just for the elite with only 8 teams at the finals. But then I remember the outcry over the defeat to Costa Rica in the opening game at Italia 90, looking back, the Scottish fans didn't realise what they had.
still $hite though - played 6 games in those 2 tourneys - 1 win v sweden , 1 win v CIS - was over by then = euro 96 1 win v Swiss - not enough though ; 74 - 1 win v a team who didn't know the rules / 82 1 win v team whos national sport is rugby / 86 couldn't scored v 10 men in 86 mins / 98 a draw v international version of Wimbledon - should I go on ?
@@IndieVolken What do you expect from a country with a tiny population compared to the top nations, Remember Scotland produced the first club from the Uk to win the European Cup and when the English clubs started winning European trophies their best players and managers were usually Scottish.

Scotland were unlucky in 1990 against Brazil last minute to concede very frustrating when you see them beating France here shame we couldn't finish it off
Matthew Hilton You must be mistaken. Scotland didn't play vs Brazil in Italy90. Actually, Scotland didn't make it to Italy90. Scotland vs Brazil was in France 98
It was Uruguay who scored in injury time to stop Scotland finishing as one of the best 3rd place teams in the Group stage and go through. Uruguay did not play Scotland but that goal put them through as one of the best 3rd placed teams and eliminated Scotland
