    I’ve been binging on your channel, only to find out you’re on a plantbased diet!! I’ve been looking for some inspiration - and here you are! I’m mostly plantbased wholefoods, but eat fish time to time - and new to running. I’m learning a lot from your video and now I’m even more inspired. Thank you!

      Amazing! Welcome to the channel. Stay in touch in the comments and I’m here to help you. There’s a bunch of content on diet although most of my diet content is in my private group. It stirs the pot so much in the general public that I keep much of it for my VIP runners. But I can’t not cover it on my channel. As I believe it’s the most important contributor to your performance and health.
      Check out the channel TheFruitarian. Trust me. You’ll get you mind blown.
      Thanks for supporting my channel and see you on the next video

    I love the video Andrew!
    I was the eventual winner who took a break around the 9 hour mark. I am also plant based and love the breakdown of all of the nutrition info and race recap!
    I need to download your book soon.

      You’re plant based Caleb! Wow! That makes the story even better! I didn’t see you in the list for this year. Nice job last year. You zoomed by me so fast and I had no idea you were even in the race. Nice running and thanks for being plant based

    This is great timing for me. I ran a 20 mile long run this past weekend fueled completely on frozen watermelon and I felt great. I am going to integrate juice as well now.

      Amazing Russell! You're in good company, my runner, Lacey, just got her fastest run time in her triathlon as well (two days ago) fueling with orange juice only. Fruit power!

    I was fascinated by this. I became a vegan years ago, but only took up running recently, and I'm a great believer in whole foods. I can't help thinking that a lot of sport nutrition products are very unhealthy and the science behind them is dubious. It seems to me that the companies have found a way to make people pay a lot for a teaspoon of jam or a cocktail of chemicals in a plastic pouch. I'd love any tips for using your approach in a marathon.

    • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have loads of training on this, but in short, stop eating, three hours before the gun goes off, at least two. And then don’t take any calories for 20 minutes into your race, at which point take the most easily digestible calories that your body is used to. I personally would use, raw juice, or dates. And frontload your calories, in the marathon, to ease the cost of digestion.

    Interesting, I am mainly plant based. I tend to make my own running snacks.
    Dried fruit / oat / nut butter energy balls.
    Wholemeal avocado wraps
    I find that after six or so hours I need savoury stuff.
    I drink oat milk, unless hot avoid pure water.
    Maybe I will try fruit juices.
    One issue with fruit juices generally is that you haven’t chewed them, so little saliva….perhaps you should add this beforehand!
    (An aside, in primitive cultures, babies were weened on food chewed by their mothers, so got a good transfer of healthy bacteria etc for kickstarting their gut biome)

    Thank you so much for this. I am trying to fuel my races with healthier option. I'm getting ready to do a Spartan Ultra in 2 weeks. I'm glad you mentioned dates because they are on my list! I really like your idea of juicing your own fruit. I'm guessing that you use a "juicer" type of machine??

    • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Josee, Yes I use a juicer! I have the Nama J2 juicer, it's a game changer if you want to get serious about juicing. The main benefit to making your own juice is that you avoid pasteurizing it. Pasteurizing is horrible for your juice because it denatures (kills) the proteins and enzymes in your juice. It basically just turns it in to dead sugar water. So yeah either make it yourself or get it from a juice place.
      Good luck at the Spartan Ultra!!

      @runelitecoach  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So glad you enjoyed. Yes watermelon juice is the best. I did a 4 1/2 hour long run yesterday and fueled just with watermelon juice.
      Javelina went awesome. I had a great time. It was a hot desert race, and I did mostly juice, a bunch of raw fruit. I have a 300 mile race coming up in eight months. I’ll be doing, but I will do a lot of actual food. Of course, all plant-based, and mostly Raw.

      @@runelitecoach Seems a shame that the top runners don't know their position. Perhaps mention your experience to the organisers. I can't think of a solution though. It's not as if there can be race car or bike in front of the leader as in road races.

    Love it !!! But in a more common mountain race (not a 5k loop), 10 miles between aids stations, and these aids stations in the middle of nowhere... what do you do? You carry 3L of juice to avoid what is given?

    • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Basically yes. I carry juice in front loading bottles and water in the bladder. Plus I bring either raw fruit, dates, or dried mangos.

    First, well done, steady does it!
    I must say you do look very fit and healthy, which says a lot for your diet. In contrast to some of those guys promoting Keto diets, who look a bit ill.
    One point that concerns me, does eating a lot of high (natural) sugar fruits not spike your blood sugar? Have you used a continuous monitor ever?

    • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. I look even better now, this video was a year and a half ago, I’ve been lifting weights and everything looks even better. On your question about fruit sugars, no not at all your blood sugar will not spike, not unless you have severe insulin resistance due to eating a super high fat diet. • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, I make all of my own juice. In a slow juicer. The stuff you buy in the store has all been pasteurized. You definitely don’t want to pasteurize your juice.

    I like your channel but I think your approach to eating is a bit closed minded. If this was the optimal diet, you would see the elites doing this. A lot of elites are moving to Maurten fueling. Maybe give that a shot

    • @runelitecoach
      @runelitecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have a whole training in my course on Maurten. Maurten is awesome! Funny though the ratio of glucose to fructose in Maurten is the same of Orange juice. I'm saying that juice is good for performance AND health. Maurten is not good for your health. Just good for performance on race day.
      I'm also not saying that this approach is idea. I"m reporting on what I do. And you do see elites going this direction (high carbohydrate, whole foods, plant based).
      Juicing is not so extreme. Most runners have no problem having sport drink. To me sport drink is more extreme. We both agree that LIQUID is easy to digest. I'm just saying that liquid from food is healthier than liquid made in a lab, turned in to a powder. But of course there's not that much money to be made in fruits, and they have a poor shelf life, especially in a running store....so supplements are pushed instead.
      But the best runners in the world are eating diets that are very close to being whole food, plant based. Look at the top Ethiopians and Kenyans, eating Ugali, Teff flour, oats, fruits, and veggies.

    • @punisher87100
      @punisher87100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@runelitecoach Appreciate the response. I believe Maurten is 1:0.8 in terms of glucose to fructose while OJ is 1:1. I believe our capacity to digest glucose is slightly higher than fructose. You're also completely missing the bicarb component which makes it way easier to digest 100g of carbs per hour. Based on your cravings just 10 hours into the race, it seems like you were underfueling. In any case, I come to your channel for advice about what the elites are doing to be the best. I'd like to hear about other elites (top 10 at major races) that are relying on juices as their primary nutrition for racing if you have that info. Thanks!

      @runelitecoach  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the course, and how far between eight stations. At this particular race, Iran, buy my own age station every 3 miles, so I only carried a bottle in the little pack that you can see in the video. But for longer races, I wear a hydration pack.
