I’ve got a huge Irish exam tomorrow and no one in my class could find this poem or notes on it in their handouts. Thank you so much for this video, you just saved an entire Irish class!
since i discovered great grandparents came here in potato famine really inspired me feel i have a undeveloped part of my brain thats Irish Gaelic . love this poem fantastic
I loved your patient explanation of this lovely poem! This is the type of cultural artifact that truly inspires me to dive deeper into Irish language. thank you and I hope you might share similar works
Beautiful poem, very well translated. Reminds me of the beautiful foggy October nights we used to travel home from my grandmother's house after spending the day with her. As a little boy I used to love to see the moon over the mountains "a ritheann romham". She really was "mo chara ar an bhòthar". Thank you so much for bring back so many lovely memories. Go raibh maith agat.
Your explanation of prepositions was great and reminded me of the Breastplate of St. Patrick. Christ before me, Christ beside me etc., I would love to hear that in Irish.
Love the poem and the nature imagery! I was very pleasantly surprised how much made sense and tied back to more familiar words, once you explained the lines so patiently and clearly. Studying in my native U.S., visiting Ireland for my first time this year. I promise to drive very carefully!
The Moon 🌙 She is the queen of the sky The beauty of the night Secret star, that runs before me My friend on the road On a trip In darkness Her face, now camouflaged in fog Above parks and trees She flies Spreading shadows The country in her arms My beauty/Skywoman/beautiful woman My secret heart The moon 🌙
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! These types of cultural appreciation with a focus on language inspire me to continue my studies of the beautiful Irish language.
I just discovered your channel and I am so glad. Although I am not Irish (just of Irish descent) I did have two semesters of Irish in school, but because I had no real opportunity to use it I have lost most of what I learned. But I have been trying to relearn as much as I can and this channel has been incredibly helpful, more than most of the ones I have found so far. I’m actually getting to the point I can figure out the general meaning of some words I haven’t seem before.
This is really cool stuff! I wish there were more poetry/youtubes/videos/music in Irish translated to English (via subs mostly ofc, not in such detail).
Great video. Very informative and enjoyable. There is just one small thing I would change. I think if it is meant to mean parks "and trees", it should say "is chrainn" and not "is chriann". I believe "chrainn" is the lenited form of "crainn" which means trees. Other than that, I think the video is perfect. 🙂

My favourite Eiriú, the woman who is depicted as a representation of Ireland. Check out the Éireann go brath Green flag with a gold harp.

Isn’t “Sí” in the first line a contraction of “Is í”? There’s an apostrophe missing.
