We Australians do not decorate for fall ( autumn) at all. We just cry a little as summer is over. Halloween is getting bigger here each year. Unlike my front verandah, not many aussies decorate the outside of their homes, maybe a little more decorate for Christmas. We do not have the decorations in the stores as you do. Sadly it’s too expensive for me to ship anything from the US. Lol I am the crazy verandah decorator lady in my area, but I must say many people walk by and drive by to have a look. I love your content Linda. ☺️🇦🇺🍷🐨

In South Africa, we could feed a whole orphanage with a wagon full of pumpkins. I think our monkeys would think it is 'Christmas' if they stumbled on your garden decorations. Such a beautiful selection.

The French do like to have a beautiful Cinderella like pumpkin in their house. They use acorns and dry leaves too. my granny is a genius at natural decor while my mom will always cook the gorgeous pumpkins she buys. When I moved to the US I drove to all the pumpkin competitions. Pumpkins are my favorite things. I have friendships that started because I saw pumpkins growing at neighbors and I struck a conversation.

Spray your outside pumpkins with a clear sealant it really helps keep the squirrels from nibbling on them

Linda, those white pumpkins are great! In central Europe, we have a beautiful autumn, but Halloween and pumpkin decorations are not super popular yet. Some children collect candy, and there are some fall decorations in public places. Over the years there have been more and more of them around, but I don't know of places where there is such a choice of sizes and number of pumpkin varieties to buy as you have at your place. In Poland in November we have holidays during which we remember loved ones who have died, so it's more a time of peace and reflection. People gather at graves in cemeteries, light candles and very often put huge chrysanthemums on graves. In a way, this is a cultural conflict, as younger generations like the cheerful atmosphere of ghosts and skeletons while some find it hard to reconcile this with the memory of loved ones who have passed away.

How I love the word "pumpkinizing". It is not possible to translate it into german, because it is called "Kürbis". I always thought, that Americans are a little bit crazy with their pumpkinmania😘, but I also love them. Here in Wiesbaden is a big housing area for american soldiers and their families. I love driving through it during fall and christmas season because of the imaginative decorations. Love from Andrea, Wiesbaden, Germany

Last year some friends and I visited a pumpkin patch in Half Moon Bay, Ca. I bought a midsized sugar pumpkin to bake a pie with. I kept the seeds and planted 5 of them. I got pumpkins and one of them is in my patio right now making. The whole backyard bright festive. I bought a couple yellow flowered kalancho and potted them. In a shady yard a couple pops of yellow and an orange pumpkin with my red pelargoniums look festive.

If you dry the apple gourd you can drill a hole in it to make an adorable birdhouse. Use the appropriate size bit for opening for wrens or chickadees.I also drill 3 small holes in the bottom for drainage if rain gets in. At the top I put a hole on either side of the stem and thread a piece of either wire or leather shoelace for hanging. I use a screwdriver to break up the seeds inside and shake them out of the large entrance hole. The birds love them.

The eastern shore of Maryland is famous for growing gigantic pumpkins. Love your selections. For the past few years I've been gravitating towards the blue/green ones and the warty orange/dark green ones. Last year the squirrels tried to bite into the warty ones but gave up and left them alone. So many great choices and you can not have too many.

Ah Fall, my favorite, too! I spied the lush Bittersweet! Some years ago I would scout out wild bittersweet, then remove the leaves & hang upside down to dry. Then I would sell hundreds of dried bittersweet swags at the Bishop Hill, IL Heritage Fall Festival. Back in those days the peddlers were expected to dress in 1840 costumes. Loved those piles of gourds & pumpkins!
I noticed the prices on those pumpkins: wow, they are about 2Xs higher than here in northern IL!

The green pumpkins reminiscent of swans are beautiful! One bonus of squirrels is a nice sapling tree, and a privet they planted in an area that I can’t dig in easily. I think they are actually helping landscape, lol. I also have several baby Japanese maples that I’ll eventually dig up and pot. I’m not sure if the squirrels did that too. I hear Japanese maples are very hard to propagate, so that’s a win.

It is impressive that you have outfits years old but more impressive that you still fit into them. Do you ever eat? I can still fit into clothes I got in April. Ha! Anxiously awaiting your placement of the pumpkins! I see OKC just got a new native plant nursery so I’m thinking another trip is upcoming. I loved Bricks and bought several plants when there. Sadly, living in a rural forest finding quality nurseries is a chore. I usually drive to Dallas 2 hrs for plant shopping. So, what’s another four hours?

Lovely segment as always. Those pumpkins are amazing. In Ireland we mainly have the orange ones and last year we had some cute little gourds.
Halloween was invented in Ireland would you believe ?
We wouldn't really decorate in September but Halloween is huge in Ireland now - I think we have been very influenced by American films such as Hocus Pocus , Scream etc and we have upped our game.
I don't think pumpkins would last two months outdoors in Ireland - too damp.
Looking forward to watching you style your purchases. Hi to Stewart .

The adorable little wooden pumpkin stand in the beginning gave me an idea. Children could sell hot spiced cider at a festival or pumpkin carving street party. Between the kale and the pumpkins , the squirrels would have a field day. I have so many I have named my little home Critter Cottage! I did find some pretty realistic cinderella pumpkins at Walmart this year. Perfect for weathering the squirrels and elements in the garden. Can't wait to see you style your haul.

Love the autumn season. Even love the word Autumn. Unfortunately the season in Calgary is too short before the snow flies. ❤☹️
Nevertheless we do like to decorate for the season with pumpkins, guards, ornamental corn, dry leaves, evergreen cones, dried flowers, wheat My mom would pick up leaves on her walks put them into picture frames with glass and make either silhouettes or an arrangement. I find myself decorating now just with gold or brown pillows and throws, candles and scents that are more spicy. A twig with beautiful dried leaves on it take center stage. Fill my large pottery bowl with pine or spruce cones, add leaves and antler fells etc. a wooden bowl or basket on the island filled with apples and seasonal fruit or vegetables. I bring most of my outdoor plants outside for the summer so now they get a good shower and spray( to get rid of unwanted pests). I’m saying all this as I’m sitting by the lake taking in the last bit of summer😃.

Fun plant & pumpkin shopping trip! 🎃🌱🍂🐿 A red leafed Japanese Maple would be beautiful against your brick lined steps...and I'm sure you will find the perfect tree to go there eventually. Here in eastern Canada, pumpkins will be coming out on the steps with the hay bales and chrysanthemums, just in time for our Thanksgiving . on October 9th, a real harvest festival of giving thanks and at the most beautiful and colourful time of year. It always seems to be sunny on that weekend too. What we don't tend to buy as much of here, I think, are the "one use" very thematic dishes and decorations that they sell at TJMAX (US) / Homesense (CA)....for every Holiday...

Decorating our homes, here in the U.K., in autumn (fall) decor really isn’t a thing. I definitely do decorate the outside of my house for Halloween (on the day) so the local kids who go Trick or Treating at least have one house to go to! 😂 Obviously, Halloween came from us but you folks went on to make it your own 💚🧡

One of my favorite YTers is Cliff from Castle Hill Gardens, and he’s in England. For years he grew beautiful pumpkins and gourds, primarily for his grandchildren to enjoy at Halloween. He has cut back on those now that the kids are college age. So, there are definitely some folks in the UK who decorate with them. After all, I believe it started as a Celtic holiday and with turnips instead of pumpkins?

    • @cketts8128
      @cketts8128 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Gigi-fv9ky - that’s right…it was a Celtic tradition. I think because we also celebrate a thing called Bonfire Night on 5th November where we remember a man called Guy Fawkes’ plot to blow up the King and Parliament being stopped, that we tend to not think about Halloween so much. Bonfire Night has fireworks and huge bonfires and food etc…one big party! To be honest Christmas is our big celebration here mainly.

Canadians here in BC go huge in decorating for Halloween. They even have fireworks. (Former Californian emigrated to Canada)

Do you know Jarrahdale pumpkins are native to Australia. I am amused at how crazy Americans are for autumn and pumpkins Love watching you from Melbourne, Australia Linda.

I’m in Australia and we definitely don’t pay much attention to fall(Autumn) at all. We generally ignore Halloween, some people do a minimum trick or treat thing but it isn’t an Australian thing. I love watching all the American TH-camrs celebrating fall. I wish we did Thanksgiving though. I also live in a,part of Australia where it gets really hot in summer so I know what you are going through.

Australia was not colonised by puritans. Australia as a large country has variety of seasons some without ‘autumn etc eg tropical. Quite different culture to US. Aust is a multicultural and secular society

PSA: the Tiger eye sumac sprouts horribly everywhere from long roots. It dies back very randomly in the winter ( zone 6b) and then you are left with dead bits for small trees... I would never plant them again but now everyone says that they are a signature piece of my front yard and don't I even think about taking them out!

I was just thinking that maybe you won't have as many problems with squirrels as you did at your other house. Here in Canada we do decorate for fall with pumpkins, corn, gourds and hay bales and I think it is much easier because our Thanksgiving is closer to Halloween.

Hello Linda, not sure everyone decorates for fall. I used to live in CA I don't remember it being like that. But then when I moved to Ohio I see people love to decorate for the seasons probably because there are 4 seasons here. I don't decorate outside because one time I put a nice arrangement out there and someone came and stole. 😢 So I decorate inside not very much because I live in a small condo. Loved your outfit. Also enjoyed shipping with you.

Naw, fall decor and Halloween are big in Canada. It's started here too with the pumpkins in the markets. We've had pop up Halloween stores since the beginning of August
