I never did much surf fishing other than dead sticking some bait while I sat on the beach. I wanted to get a little more engaged with surf fishing, so I followed this video, made the rig, and caught a fluke within my first 30 minutes of surf fishing at Island Beach State Park. I am a subscriber, and I am enjoy these videos.
My pop just passed on 1/12/23, and today's his birthday. He was from Queens but lived in LI, and always loved fishing hc. He had given me a treasure trove of gear/rigs that I had in my crawl space forever. I came back from Sandy Hook and said fuck it, I gotta get all the gear out and start figuring out surf fishing cuz I'm always chilling at SB or SH just loving on the water, and I always put off fishing bc I figured those surf pole are too big for my little car, then I fucking find out they come apart. I just fell apart, now I am watching your video, and it's really helping break things down simply so I can get crackin. When the waves aint good I will be fishing, when they are good I'll be surfing, when neither are good I will be skating at the skatepark. Don't take the "Shore" for granted man, its our version of Costa Rica Pura Vida. I gotta learn the knots brother, thats the only thing holding me back man.
Sorry it took so long to respond, but very sorry to hear about your fathers passing. They teach us well, and then it’s our turn to pass along the tradition. Never take that for granted! Uni knot. Get good at it. Look up videos on how to do it….it’s the only one I use.
Thank you for showing how to make a simple fluke rig. You have no idea how much you save me the grief when other try to show and it doesn’t work or it to complicated. Very impressive and thank you for taking the time to show us. Have a good catch!!!😅
Thank you so much . My grandsons love fluke fishing and this rig I hope is gonna make me look like a professional guide to them. Very good tutorial and explanation of its performance capabilities.
Just scrolling TH-cam watching surf fishing videos and who do I find? The Mighty E-Rock! No clue you had a fishing channel. I'm trying this rig this weekend brotha, nice video! GO BIRDS!!!
Great work for your first video, love to see more Jersey fisherman posting content. I have been fluking from boat out of Manasquan inlet since I was a kid, but just really getting into surf fishing last couple years and your rig tip is great. Hope to see you on the beaches!
Mama squab is a great place to fluke! Don’t be scared to take the 20 minute drive up to the Belmar inlet. Sometimes that’s calmer and I’ve had success there too!
Just subscribed... found your channel because I grew up with my dad taking the Boston Whaler out of Sandy Hook. Now he's gone and so is the boat but I'd love to eat some flat fish. Thanks for your info, looking forward to more content.
Love your rig. I will definitely try it out. I've never had any luck using those fake baits though and I've been fishing for decades. I'm sure open to giving it shot though. If that doesn't work then I will combine your rig setup with live bait and see what happens. Thanks for sharing.
Ive certainly heard the click if the barrel swivel going up the eyes when im not paying attention. I will def use a bigger one in low light conditions during striper season! Its a great tip!
Watched this a few months ago. Never used this rig before but I do now. I always did the bucktail and teaser and did catch fish. Bit using this I had my best fluke season ever on the surf. Thanks for the tip. Doodle
Great video, this rig definitely works for fluke. In my variation of the high-low rig, I use two small dropper loops on the leader and perfection loops to connect to the lead at the bottom and swivel at top. Then take two 10” section of mono and tie two perfection loops on both ends, resulting in two 6” pieces with a loop on each side. One side loops onto the hook, the other side loops onto the dropper. The entire rig can be quickly taken apart and can be used over and over. Tight lines
Nice vid and description. Like the idea of a bit heavier rig to get out to the other side of bar or troughs which run wider. Spend all summer surf fishing NC beaches for flounder and have been using double rig which has been very effective...but I see this method being one I will implement next Summer, especially down at oregon inlet which typically has a lot of grass in it. Thx!
Hey man im from ct and I just found your channel, and I gotta say I'm loving the content. I've always boat fished but I'm starting to get back into surf fishing again and your vids are really helping me out! Good luck this year dude
Great video Eric! A lot of useful, detailed information. I really like that idea of the dropper loop, definitely gonna start tying mine that way. Thank you. Tight lines!!
@@FromtheSurfNJ been slow in the Southern end of Jersey in the surf. Usually do well around Corsons Inlet and Strathmere beaches, but it's been slow this year. Starting to pick up now, but no keeper sizes unfortunately 2@17"-17.999999 ; 1@18"> been making it more difficult. Seems like for the beaches the action has been on boats or more North?
EXCELLENT video!! I also fish Sandy Hook, usually the beach reserved for fishing. Hope to see you in the summer of '22. Keep up the great work, mate ( subscribed! ). Cheers!!!
I always go to my local shop it’s called Grumpys tackle in seaside. They sell already made fluke rigs. All you have to do is throw on a buck tail and some gulp bait and your food to go. Caught 2 fluke yesterday in only an hour.
I try to spread the love around a little. I’ll hit Murphy’s Hook House before I go over the bridge then I’ll hit Grumpys while I’m on the island. Both have always treated me very well.
Great rig with the bank sinker on bottom. I tied a couple of these, except I couldn’t get the twists right using fluoro so I just made do without. We had an absolute ball tonight catching shorts and cocktail blues using this rig at IBSP. Much better than the double jig and teaser especially in grassy water. Just shake and the grass comes off.
I use desame style rigging and fluke fishing and I use 10ft steelhead rod to keep the line up the highest it can get plus steelhead rod are more lighter. Cheers!
Instead of the twisted dropper loop, couldn't I just use a 3 way swivel with the suggested lengths of line? Just asking because there is no way I will be able to make that twisted dropper. Great video though. Thanks!
The whole point to the twist is IF you use 30lb floro....it will stick the gulp straight out at a 90 degree angle away from the main line. This lowers the chance of the fish hitting the main line and accidentally something goes wrong. Will a 3 way swivel work? Sure. Will it keep the bait away from the main line? No. And then theres the fact that this entire rig (other than the sinker and the swivel) is all Floro....so its invisible. A three way swivel just adds more terminal tackle to the rig. But its a great point, great question, thank you for asking!
Heading to the hook in am I’m gonna fight my serious bucktail addiction, use a boring ugly sinker (oof!) and try this rig…hopefully the painful withdrawals will be worth it. Good insight thx #Fishon
This was pretty good. Fluke will chase that high bait though. If you look at some of the underwater fluke videos, those bastards are no shy. They'll come right up and take the top bait on a high low rig. That twist to dropper loop was cool, never saw that before. Spent an hour trying to nail it yesterday, NO DICE lol.
I am a big fan of John Skinner and have copied a lot of his techniques over the last ten years. My first flounder from the beach was a 24-inch South Carolina semi-doormat. My personal best is 26 " and was caught on a fishing charter out of Cape May NJ. I really like your rig and how you added the skirts. I really look forward to seeing your fishing videos and catching some real monsters..
Did you try the new rig and how did it go? I started following John Skinner's videos recently and used the bucktail + Berkley live shrimp combo, but I lost 3 rigs in a week because a lot of beaches here are full or small rocks ~10 yards out. Saw this video and I'm wondering if having a weight instead of bucktail at the bottom of the rig would make my rigs survive longer. But on the other hand, 2oz for a 7'' medium-light rod with 15/20lb main line sounds a bit dangerous though. I'm gonna try 1oz to start with, would appreciate any advice before I go this weekend😄
I recently saw a video from salt strong on TH-cam and he explain The Strike Zone of a flounder or fluke. It’s exactly as you described the only difference is that he didn’t use the exact rig but he did mention to jig the lure at the strike zone let it drop real in the slack and do it again. I have personally used your rig setup I learned about it from another TH-cam channel as well as seeing yours I tried it out, it absolutely works 100%. I went fluke fishing at night under a bridge I got numerous hits because the fluke were there and I caught two keepers I lost three. I was using a number four Offset hook with a paddle tail soft bait.
I actually saw someone use a variation of this rig under the LBI bridge YEARS ago. Wasnt the same exact thing, but it was close. This rig isnt really breaking any new ground....its just great for beginners, and even as long as ive been fluke fishing I still use it. Takes out a lof of user error.

This works REALLY well on the jetty, ocean side when everyone’s facing south in that little area there….just boost up the weight to 3 oz

Glad I found your channel, thank you for good content , time to binge watching 😀
best explanation of a surf fishing technique that I've ever watched! awesome. coming in next week. going to fish a couple days. thx!
Great tip. I use a larger barrel swivel that will not go through the top eye of the rod. That comes in handy when night striper fishing.

First time ever fluke fishing yesterday from the LBI surf, this set up 💯 works I caught 4 fluke the biggest being 19 inches in a matter of one hour. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video! I live 6 blocks from there. Love SIC!

Thanks for the info. I’ll be fishing the surf in Ortley. Definitely going to tie a few of these rigs up first thing and get after it.
Ok. I just watched your video, and made this rig. I’m gonna test it out in Point Pleasant Beach on Friday. Let’s see how it works.

Dude! Subscribed to your channel, awesome stuff and great info. I fish a little south in Sea Isle, had a great season, great videos!
The fluke rig type depends on the tide,,Ind,water depth. Fished from Sandy hook to cape may and mostly I used a plain jig with a Killie and squid.
Thanks for the info 👍🏼 Tight lines, fish on !!

great video brother~👍👍 keep the line wet~ have fun on the water~

I usually at that jetty. I was there almost every Saturday in the morning for fluke season.
It’s one of many great spots!
Thx .won't waste time with bucktail again also got 2 weakies.
What’s the actual product number or description for those skirts?
Excellent content. I'm gonna try that but without the flash. Tks bro! Just subscribed

What size rod are you using
Do you leave it in until you feel something or slowly retrieve?
I'm just starting to get into fluke fishing. Love the vid's. What type of rod do you recommend? Thanks
7 foot med/fast. Lighter is more fun with fluke!
@@FromtheSurfNJ thank you for your reply
Great setup. Do you vary the retrieve? Is it a slow retrieve? Thanks, I will keep watching.

Good stuff ! Can't wait to give it a try !!
Keep me posted! Tight lines 🤙
I've never caught anything with lures from the ocean. I'll have to try this in NC!
Will def work in NC too. Don’t be surprised if whiting hit it too! 🤙
What kind of rod are you using?
Have you tried this rig on the jetty at Barnegat inlet? Or is it better from the beach?
Love this video. Thank you.
Hi Eric, appreciate the videos and the info
Heading down to LBI/surf city for the month of august. How’s august fluke fishing ?? Never have done surf fishing for them
LBI is GREAT for fluke fishing! Try to find a jetty at high tide 🤙
Awesome, will do. Keep it up with videos. I’ll let you know how we do.
Just tried this today without having a bucktail. Caught 4 fish within 6 casts in 15min!!! No keepers but still successful!
Can i use 50lb MONO to create this rig instead of fluoro???
Enjoyed the video... very informative 👍
Do you think this would work for pier fishing?
Ayo, is that BIG E , from the viral video at the stadium.? I'm down to load the cooler up with some fish and talk birds
Good Info and good video. You got my subscribe💪
Great teaching dawg!
Can you link all lures u used thank you
What rod and reel do you use
I use a high low rig with a buck tail and gulp.
Great video
Thank you for sharing this method. I went three times this year for fluke in sandy hook beach, and the results were 0 😄.
Nice video. Thanks
Awesome I'm in longbranch, just started fishing from the surf. Using a hi lo tsunami teaser rig and 4 inch white gulp. Can't catch shit haha
Great video thank you
Thank you
Show the rig tied on main if you can please
Is there any name for them skirts that your using thanks

Great video!
Just was wondering what size of rod you use in your videos?
Fluke rod is 7”, striped bass rod is 8”, shark rod is 12”
You just swim this or what? Jig it too?
I fish Delaware jetty n I jig real light weight stuff n I pitch about 10ft out that’s it I’ve limited out more often than not within 2 hours
looks like your recording from sandy hook? :)
Right there isn’t Sandy hook, although that’s a great spot too!
I could only catch shorts from the NJ surf last summer...so many 16 inchers....
Keepers on ISBP! Working on a video for fluke strategy in the summer. 🤙
Swivel, sinker, 30lb test no no no no. 15lb test fluoro tied directly to 15-20lb test braid. Then tie a single 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz bucktail or jig head and tip it with a gulp mullet or jerk shad. All that other stuff not necessary.
