My absolute Ozu favorite is LATE SPRING, possibly the most poignant understated portrait of a father-daughter love bond in the history of cinema. Thanks for posting your video.
Not only beautiful, talented but also versatile. We lost Hideko not too long ago, I pray for Setsuko to be at peace. Just their expressions..this montage choked me up. Thank you, this was a wonderful tribute to two of the world's finest actresses in film history.
Thanks for this , I am new to Osu's films , but I am discovering these beautifull ladies , I simply love Setsuko . There is no subtitles needed , her face says it all without speaking , and her smile so lovely.
Beautiful and very moving ! Especially with this great and unforgettable music from Enio Morricone. Congratulations ! For a first clip, it is very successful. Thank you for sharing.
Very good work, though my two favorite japanese female actors will always be Kinuyo Tanaka and Meiko Kaji. Especially Tanaka is just awesome, she's a great director, too!
Heinrich, that is actually a clip from my absolute favorite Hara film. It is called either The Thunder of the Mountain or The Sound of the Mountain from 1954 directed by Mikio Naruse. I've watched it about 5 times. So good!
I didn't either, but that doesn't make us stupid. The fact that we know about their greatness now and so many still don't, puts our intelligence on a higher level. At least that is my story, and I'm sticking to it :D
Mr. Jonavo: I adore Setsuko! (See the article I (mostly) wrote on Late Spring on Wikipedia.) I recognized many of the clips of both actresses. But I don't recognize the clip with Hara beginning at about 1:30. Her expression of sorrow just about makes my heart break, although I have no idea of the film or what it's about. It must have been made close to her retirement. Could you please identify it for me? Domo arigato!
What film is excerpted starting at 0:35? Thought I had seen every Hara film available here but don't recognize that transcendent closeup. Great montage with surprising, but ultimately quite apropos choice of music.
+MrMysteryManIchiban I believe it's The Samurai's Daughter from 1937, but I can't remember for sure. If not that, then it's from The New Earth. Thanks!
No man on this earth could avoid being profoundly moved by Setsuko Hara's beauty, she emanated from the screen like an angel.
Great actresses! Love the films that they acted in. Beautiful human beings.
Two treasures of Japanese cinema
What a beauty...what a softness...like feather of bird 👏👏👏

I agree.

Bellas mujeres. Que hermosura
They each possessed the power to draw you in with their raw emotions.
You have excellent taste, Sir. Great women, wonderful music. Once Upon a Time in the East!
Rest in peace. The films live on. I WISH you could have kept them separate from each other.
I am in love with her and she's older than my mother.
Beautiful divas!
Thanks , I feel so ignorant that it took me so long to discover these directors , I will share them with my kids early . Thanks to you and you tube .

I just watched that also. How special Setsuko & Hideko are!

Des visages émouvants .... On peut avoir des réserves sur la musique ....Mais soit ! Beaux... ces visages (Ah...Setsuko ).
정말 예쁘네요 ....
A memorable days for Japanese.
私の私見ですが、世界の三大女優さんは「原節子さん、「高峰秀子さん」「イブのすべて」の「ベティデービスさん」」です‼️「皆「素晴らしい「目線」に」感動してしまいます😢😅🎉❤
Celluloid Goddesses, Timeless.
tastefully done.
