My 4 year old sister started singing this song and it took me by surprise that she caught on what I was singing so I was so excited to sing with her and we listened to this. 9 months ago my nonverbal autistic 6 year old daughter was crying in frustration because she couldn't communicate her needs. This song crushed my heart. As I listened, I saw a panoramic view of my life. I was taken from my mom when I was 7 years old by the courts of California. I was institutionalized for 10 years. I suffered many horrible things for those 10 years. Then when I was 18 Jesus revealed himself to me and I was saved. Im 70 years old now and have had a blessed life. Jesus helped me graduate from college, gave me two beautiful daughters,and 4 grandsons. Jesus was my mother, and my father, and my brother and my savior. I have lived in the goodness of God. He has been faithful.

I wanted to share my testimony while I'm here again listening. I grew up in an abusive home, narcissist stepdad and emotionally unstable mom. My mom loved Jesus but struggled a lot due to my stepdad's abuse which also influenced our relationship. I used to be terrified of God as a young child. I thought God was like my stepdad- always angry, always ready to criticize me or yell at me or call me names. I couldn't understand the idea of a Heavenly Father that LOVED me, when my stepdad and bio dad did not have a relationship with God themselves...
But as I got older, I came to LOVE Jesus. I began reading books about getting closer to Him, I worshipped, I lost taste for worldly things, and I was blessed to feel the peace and joy of the Holy Spirit even in a house where violence and screaming filled the four walls.
But something happened that hurt me so, so deeply, at age 17, the hurt from people in my life left me feeling like I couldn't feel Jesus at all. I felt like He didn't love me at all, how could He let me hurt like that? Where was He? Why did He let them hurt me? College anthropology class made me think maybe Jesus wasn't real, maybe we all believe our God is real but how do we know if we are just born into the religion?
10 years later, after living on my own apart from my parents and apart from God, at first I thought I was so happy and free. But I couldn't see all the ways I was chained down. Addicted to stress (workaholic), unable to be alone by myself, chasing distractions to quiet the flashbacks of my pain and trauma, addicted to validation from others, and trying desperately to find the love that only Jesus can provide in every romantic relationship I entered. Over time my once loving, friendly heart became bitter, cold, angry, hurt under the surface, and I was completely aimless. I had no confidence in myself, no faith in anything. I felt completely lost and suicidal.
God allowed me to struggle greatly because He wanted me to come HOME! This year at age 27 I spent hours and hours trying to learn all I could about other religions as well as Christianity so I could prove to myself that my experience with Jesus wasn't just "in my head", I began watching testimonies about how Jesus had changed others' hearts exactly like mine. I began praying and worshipping again! I felt His presence again, for the first time in years!
People will fail you and hurt you and it's never His desire. I may not understand in this life why do innocent children suffer. Why is there so much evil. I know now, it's because the devil rules this earthly realm. But keep hope, JESUS IS COMING BACK!
Please don't let how others hurt you drive you from His love. His mercies are new every morning. He will be your shelter if you humble yourself before Him, like a child, just say "I don't know what I'm doing, please will you help me?" as the first step, and believe in your heart.
