The Diana Mauser 98, Diana Model 430, and Diana Model 440 share a defect in the cocking system. I have had three failures. A pin that connects a cocking lever with the sliding chamber tends to fail. It breaks from stress of cocking the gun. My three rifles were repaired under warranty. Otherwise, the Mauser 98 is a terrific gun.
I've got a model 48 and model 34 Classic "Meisterschutze". Excellent guns with great lifetime warranty. They actually gave me my model 34 classic when I sent my old model 34 in for repair. They couldn't repair it so they gave me a new one!
Yeah, Diana really should update the next version of this with a replica bolt assembly. Even if it has no functionality, a mauser K98 really needs to have a cocking bolt assembly. It simply does not look enough like a real K98 without it. I considered buying this gun here in the USA but the fairly steep $450 price tag was too high. If, however, it had a replica bolt; I would have purchased it. For ww2 re-enactors, the lack of a bolt assembly is a deal breaker.
Im thinking that adding a bolt assembly would just be adding dead weight. Now the PCP repeating version of this gun DOES have a bolt. So get that one if you want a bolt so much.
Great Diana 460 rifles with the K98 Guise , I have had 4 of the 460s and now I shoot the K98 at 100 yards on weekends building cottages with my brother, We well I can ragged single hole the K98 at 25 yards for 3 shots standing (clover leaf) . So ... It's what we call here in the U.S. and here in Canada ... wonder guns. The Diana 460 line reached Criticle mass type thing in the bussiness of 22 fpe springers yes. ... The K98 is not hold sensitive at all mine doesn't move appone firing. I tune all my rifles but ya ...wow these things shoot from 22 fpe to 24 fpe mine being in the middle of that shooting like a HW50's recoil. . The Diana 460 has less moving parts than the chunkier K98 but if you can keep that outer shroud from coming loose you have another wonder gun in K98 Guise . Cheers ... Love your channel !!! Can't do my days without hereing you say , " Hello! " ... we;come to ... 🙃😊
Very intriguing rifle and beautiful overall layout. The way they incorporated the underlever into the design was perfect. I would have liked to have seen a bit more on the tech side, a bit more shot-testing and FPS/FPE but that one group was pretty impressive. Could you also give at least a ball-park price? Nice vid, thanks for sharing,.
I think the k comes from 'kurz' German for short, because it was shorter than the original Karabiner 98 from 1898 which was the rifle of the German Army in World War one. So K98 the rifle of WWI and K98k the rifle of WWII
Bolt action PCP model, single shot or magazine due out this year from Diana, very, very tempting!......will you be doing a follow-up review on this model Andy?
Hey I would love to know from someone that has this rifle if the safety and trigger Guard are plastic? a simple YES/NO answer would do but any more information would be very helpful! I need to know if this rifle is sturdy enough for hard use on a farm where it will be on tractors, in the back bed of trucks, in barns, up in hay lofts, taken when climbing trees, carried well working .etc Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank You
I'm not sure about the safety but the trigger guard is plastic but of a high quality, I'm personally thinking of saving up for this or getting it for Christmas or something, because I personally love it
@@justahyena8869 Thank you for the reply! I hope the safety is super strong because when I am thinking of buying an air rifle I always think of longevity. I want my kids to shoot it one day and then my grand kids as well! As for the trigger guard I can easily mill one out of steel so i'm not worried about that. i would love to add this gun to my collection as well!
@@6___________99_____________64 Awesome thank you! my big concern was if moving parts like the safety are plastic. I can easily mill out another trigger guard from a block of steel. Thanks again!
I just purchased the .22 version here in the states. Absolutely a beautiful replica. Bolt action is smooth. Plenty of power and very accurate with H&N 21gr slugs. The .22 has a 10 round magazine. With the 21gr slugs I’m getting around 25-30fpe.
For a few more shackles you can buy a real German training air rifle made by Haenel or Mars that are more period correct. I have one of each and they are a joy to shoot.
rafeer896 : ??? Not quite sure where you got that idea from? I don’t believe I have ever said that in any of my videos. I am a hunter ( pest control) myself, but I am very concerned that the correct weapon is used for the right job, and that no animal suffers. I would not for example recommend anyone use a co2 replica type pistol to take out quarry. And any hunter is always respectful of the quarry. Thanks for your interest. Regards Andy.
So glad to hear that. Your disclaimer sounded a bit like that is what you meant. I understand now. We get attacked by the anti-gun anti-hunt people all the time on YT. Good review though thanks.
I really wanna buy a deactivated or replica WWI/II gun. Usually Umarex replicas are about £200-£250, this is £400 - does anyone here feel it's worth the price. I might get it.
Very good replica but I still wish they would have put a bolt on it. It would have added to the overall look to the rifle.

Beware of the possible confusion: there is also a PCP version of this replica, sometimes not labeled with the "PCP" addition.
More info on accuracy please 🥺.
The K98 is considered one of the world's greatest bolt action rifles.
It was very very common for people to "sporterize" it for civilian use.

It's like if someone took a k98 and made it minimalist by just ripping the bolt out

The original was called the Gewehr Model 1898.
Tje funny thing is that it's not "kurz" at all, the K98k is a fully-fledged rifle.
Goes nicely with an umarex pistol
I thought the k98 went into service in 1898 hense the model number
Correct and the "k" is for the german word kurz = short. What he said is not correct
They should make a M1 Garand version of this air gun.
