Underwood was raised in a Baptist church, but now attends a non-denominational congregation, according to E! News. She is the musical darling of American conservatives: a God-fearing farm girl from Oklahoma who became a music phenomenon on the back of wholesome hit records about faith, family and the greatness of the United States. In an interview with The Independent, Carrie Underwood said: “Our church is gay friendly…. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody.”
A spokesman said that her view on gay marriage may be bothersome to some of her more conservative fans, but said that her younger fans would be more accepting of her stance. He said:
“If you look at younger evangelicals, they are hugely out of step with their parents on this issue. They remain committed to their faith, but don’t see gay rights being in conflict with Christian values. So while her comments are great news, they aren’t necessarily a huge surprise.” "
Sometimes it can feel like we have much to wrestle with in a changing world. While some of us find it easier to embrace greater diversity, seeing it as a part of God’s great design, others can find it confusing and difficult. But to turn away from the realities of some of our fellow men and women who are LGBT is to close the door of the church to them. The path for many Christians who are LGBT, and those who support them, is rarely easy. Faced with judgement and persecution, LGBT people have often felt excluded from the church. Sadly, some have turned away from the faith as a means of self-preservation.
As Christians, we must learn to accept people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans (LGBT) as children of God. There have always been LGBT people in the Church, and there always will be. There are LGBT people who have reconciled their sexuality and/or gender identity with their faith, and of non-LGBT Christians who believe that accepting and affirming LGBT people is the Christ-like response. They represent diverse voices from across the globe. This story of the "Experience of Sass" is inspirational, but together they tell an incredibly powerful story of resilience, courage, and a faith that has withstood trials many of us would find hard to imagine - a faith that can move mountains.
I welcome you, "Sass" to our Community of Christians and pray that you will accept this experience with an open mind and gentle heart. Your enduring belief, your understanding of God’s love and your courage offer all of us an opportunity to adopt a deeper meaning of fellowship and acceptance. And as we fully embrace and accept each other, it is my prayer that we know a deeper acceptance of God ourselves. Our God is compassionate and loves **ALL PEOPLE!**
Why You and I Should Not Judge Others
? **IT IS UNCHRISTIAN!** Let’s read James chapter four and verse eleven again: “Do not say evil against one another, my brothers. He who says evil against his brother or makes himself his brother’s judge, says evil against the law and is judging the law.” James 4:11 (BBE)
Notice how many times the word brother or a form of brother is used in this verse. Three times! Why? Because we should not speak evil of another Christian - because we are part of the same family. We’re brothers - we’re relatives. We have the same Father. “Our Father - who art in heaven.” We have the same Savior - Jesus Christ our Lord. We have the same Holy Spirit living and dwelling in us. We have been saved by the same blood - the blood of Christ. That is why Paul can say:
“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:4-5 (NKJV)
We are family - and family should not speak evil against one another. It’s not a Christian’s job to go around speaking evil of other Christians - in fact it is the devil’s business to speak against God and His family. The devil is the Father of Lies and he is the one who loves to speak evil of God’s children. The devil loves to “bad talk” God and His family. When we speak evil against a fellow Christian - we’re doing the devils work. That’s what the devil’s job description is. In the book of Revelation the Bible says, the devil is the “accuser of the brothers”. It is unchristian to judge other Christians. That is not what we should be doing. The second reason we should not speak evil against one another. **IT IS UNLOVING. GOD COMMANDED US ... "TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF" ... THE SECOND GREATEST COMMANDMENT OF GOD!!!**
First Corinthians 13:13 lists love along with faith and hope as a gift that lasts forever. The lasting nature of faith, hope, and love make them greater than all other gifts of the Spirit, which are temporary; the gifts of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 13:8 as coming to an end. Of the three “forever gifts,” love is the greatest.
Love is greater than faith and hope in that both faith and hope depend on love for their existence. Without love, there can be no true faith; a loveless faith is nothing but an empty religious exercise. As Paul says, “If I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:2). Without love, there can be no genuine hope; a loveless hope is an oxymoron, because we can’t truly hope for something that we do not love. Faith and hope are dead, sterile things if not accompanied by love.
One of the reasons that love is the greatest gift is that it is essential to God’s nature. First John 4:8 tells us that God is love. The book of John and John’s three letters are replete with the theme of love. God gives us His love, and we reflect that love back to Him: “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. . . . You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other” (John 15:9-17). Here we see that love is something that has always existed among the persons of the Trinity. Love has no beginning and does not end. And this is the love into which we are invited. Jesus desired for future believers to be part of His love as well: “I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them” (John 17:26).
Jesus taught that the greatest two commandments both include love, the greatest gift: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:37-40).
