Just finished servicing a Dc54 aswell as a v7. I seem to service these the most as most people over fill them and they get clogged or as they get bashed around and create tiny air leaks around the gaskets of the cyclones from cracks or dislodgment, they loose suction greatly and the cyclones start to fill up, I've had plenty that needed the cyclone pack replaced because of internal or external leaks between and in and around cyclones, they don't fair well to being droped or bash around. I had a DC54 for over 10 years and it worked fabulously but I'm a tech with OCD and I babied it emptied after each use, but I needed something with a power head that was not so expensive I needed to sell a kidney so I got a Shark NV801, yes cyclone is primitive but very easy to clean out, very good brush roll unfortunately we are limited in australia for powerhead type cleaners only uprights we have are dyson shark, sebo and miele have to be ordered if available and a couple of cordless/corded industrial brands, and canister models are basically non existent, a brand will introduce one it will be on sale for a year no one will buy it because the cost is astronomical and so they discontinue that particular model for not being popular. Hoover had bagged and bagless power head models with questionable build quality, as well as sauber and wertheim but they are super expensive and the company godfreys is looking at closing down so no options there unless someone saves the company.
the problem is the people that don’t do the correct maintenance like emptying the bin before the max line and not when is all the bin full, this is the case when the cyclonic system fails and clog up . For this people is easier using bag, when it is full, they only have to change it.
You got me repairing vacuum cleaners now. I managed to find a free dyson dc54 that I flipped for £40 profit. Now I've got a Dyson Dc24 three of them in various connections. But I got two working but not the roller as the motors are gone and not worth replacing.
I must be doing something wrong then…. I have a second generation big ball Cinetic 5+ years old and still works perfectly, just picking up dust, etc no big messes at once and make sure you suck up dust and air so it still flows! Dyson tested it heavily people need the use stuff correct
Problem is that these vacuums should only be used by the people who really take care of their vacuums. Many "normal" people just use and abuse them and then the vacuum dies.
I use my cinetic big ball 1200 watt version 1st generation in a sort of commercial setting I clean weekly multiple offices and houses with lots of carpets in it! I shake the bin out done nothing more than that and the machine operates perfect filter only has carbon and no dust in the motor area so yeah Cinetic technology really works when used correctly
Hi. I have a DC54 and I'm trying to take apart the Dual Mode Floor Tool (part no. 966247-01 -- not shown in your video) because there is a blockage inside. I've removed the 10 Torx screws but it won't come apart and I don't know what to do next. (I have no mechanical skills...) Any ideas? Thanks.
Well said! To clean it out, there needs to be no wind, or at least ensure the wind is blowing the dust etc. away from you. The most poorly designed vacuum we've owned.
I've had my DC54 for many years and used it a lot. It has never lost suction and the cyclones have never gotten caked. People who use the machines commercially or suck up wet material or construction dust can have issues. This is not how the machine is designed or intended for usage. There will always be one or two out there that have issues but that doesn't mean the entire machine or design as a whole is faulty.
I’ve had to fix my sisters Dyson DC54 as the motor died on it I stripped and cleaned everything on it of course part from the filter and still going strong I did recently get a message about it being clogged where the hose connects to the vacuum but other then that no complaints as of yet
Nice! That small front hose clogs easily on all the machines that use that design, easy to remove the 2 small cross head screws and pop the hose off and check, or turn it on with the cyclone off then refit the cyclone and see if it starts screaming 😂
Good video Sam! Now one thing with these is that even when brand spanking new bin & cyclone unit WILL strangle the airflow A LOT. It's just so over complex airpath that it's never going to perform like a bagged unit. I owned DC40 and difference in airflow before and after the bin is insane. So having the "best ever" cyclone system has steep price to pay.
These are marvellous in theory, in practice a recipe for disaster, some Dysons ideas sometimes are deemed to fail and only ok if you don’t make mess, I used to say Dyson slogan should be “No pets, No Kids, No Mess , No Problem “ lol 😂 not realistic , my big corded vac is a Dyson DC55 which has survived 6 years so far but I use a cordless vac for daily cleaning and a corded is once every 2-3 weeks.
mr dyson: "so here's my filterless vacuum that needs no cleaning, it's genious.. here's the components.. here's the internal filter mesh thing... you want to see where the fan is in my fanless fan? where are you going??" i have to say i still love my electrolux flexios(just as a tech thing). flexio(1) not 3 or whatever. it has just a big filter fabric thing on the bucket(cleanable), motor has a secondary air route to keep cool(for upper end of the motor) enough if it gets 100% blocked, has a bypass valve too. does 100kg of cat hair and sand a year no problem but most importantly doesn't burn out, does 1400watts and they've sold them for near a decade I think now. maybe it's eu illegal tho for consumer sales on the watts or something.
Yea, cyclones are nowhere near as effective after a few overfills and bad empties, (not bashing the dust out.) Do you know when you clean out a dco7 cyclone it makes that lovely air swooshing sound, this will dissapear after a year or so Because of the dust gathering.
Great on paper but not so great in practice Sam! Show us what you can do as you always do. 😊

Not using it for diy is a big one!

That vacuum is creepy looking. It reminds me of a Sentinel from The Matrix.

DieSoon vacuums, because there is one born every second.
Dyson machines are crap. High service rate, poor construction and a mess to empty. And Dyson didnt invent bagless cleaners. Rexair did kn the 1930's.
