Thank you for this tutorial! I learned a lot again! I also especially appreciate the explanation of WHY we should not erase and correct the not so perfectly drawn lines, but better to repaint them. These hints that this makes the lines look more organic and "real" overall are sooo helpful!!! Thank you so much for this! What I unfortunately still don't quite understand and can follow myself is the thing with the highlights and the shadows. The imaginary light rays of the light source fall on the body in so many different places - and therefore it is not clear to me WHERE I should then paint light and shadow. Maybe you can explain this again in a video in particular, in case more of your viewers have questions about it? That would be wonderful!!! I've been wanting to try animation but too nervous to actually try, partly because I didn't realize groups counted together, so thought I had to e.g. merge the nose and mouth and bamboo together into a single layer. (p.s. bamboo!) I know it's not like a life-or-death issue and I could have just tried, but... yeah. I like having the info for simple animations! Also I really appreciate your "undo don't erase" advice. Erasing a section was what I used to do but the edges never really matched up, plus I'd get weird artifacts where something was mostly erased but still left a smudge. It's harder to bring myself to undo when I find a problem several moves back, but it's still overall faster.
My Panda mouth animation is looking odd. Am I supposed to SELECT the bamboo stick and part of the Panda mouth or just the stick to Rotate it so slightly. Secret word Bamboo. I am enjoying your tutorials so much. I am a retired ESL teacher. Taught for 41 years. Your instructions are exceptional.
When my parents moved to central Ontario's cottage country, they were surprised to see bamboo growing on their property. It's quite invasive there! One little tip...I usually just use the hex codes for the colours, rather than downloading. You don't show the code until you start colouring, and then I have to pause the video. If you show the code as you're selecting the colour in your palette it would help our flow a bit :) My panda is so cute. I really struggled with the sketch, but I kept at it. When I was duplicating layers for the animation, I ran out of layers. I started flattening the groups. I don't understand between flatten, merge down, and combine. Can you talk about that sometime? Thanks!
Hi Tracy! Flatten: merges all the layer in one group Merge down: merges the selected layer with the layer below Combine down: groups the selected layer and the layer below 😊

Don't forget to adjust the threshold of your color fill 😊 Keep the pencil over your filled shape and, without lifting it, move it from left to right until you find the moment right before the colors goes outside of your shape and onto the rest of the canvas.
