What Happened on the Sky Ladder: Austria's Donnerkogel Klettersteig

- Austria's "Stairway to Heaven" (Donnerkogel Klettersteig) is the most famous klettersteig in the country. And for good reason! The 40 meter long sky bridge, or ladder to heaven, allows climbers to hang thousands of feet up in the air, with sweeping views all around. This was definitely one of our favorite via ferrata to date!
Major thanks to our new friend Slavo (IG: dobroslav_grygar) for capturing the footage of Adam on the sky bridge!
#austriatravel #hiking #klettersteig #viaferrata
So Adam’s Skybridge pull-ups were definitely scary, but were they dangerous? Absolutely not. Think about it like this: as someone who’s not only a good climber but has also done tens of thousands of pull-ups in his life without ever accidentally letting go, there was virtually no chance of Adam letting go of that ladder. But, you ask, what if he had passed out or had a seizure or something? In that case, he was clipped in with both via ferrata tethers, which he made from ultra-dynamic protection tethers used in hi-rise construction, that can support more than 100 times his weight. The danger if you fall climbing a via ferrata is the potential run out between where you fall and the next anchor point down, where the tethers stop sliding and arrest the fall. It’s usually not too far - maybe 5-10 feet - but you could get a couple nasty bumps depending what you hit on a longer run out. Here, there is no run-out and of course nothing to hit. Even if Adam literally passed out, he would just drop a couple of feet and dangle safely from the tethers without hitting anything. In other words, as scary as it was it was also, from a rational perspective, probably the safest thing he did all day!
Anyone who had a problem with any of this is a moron and is not worth your time!

Watch Adam, the ultimate studmuffin from the Golden State, conquer Donnerbogel Klettersteig with three jaw-dropping pull ups at the swaying Ladder to Heaven! 🏋♂💪 Set to the catchy beats of Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," this short video showcases Adam's impressive strength and confidence. On a serious note- Although you have redundancy for safety factor, should tethers be examined for mechanical fatigue periodically to ensure structural integrity?
❤ this video. Stay safe and healthy.
If you have low body fat your G even if old. Er. Ish.
37 is line of demarcation on age and real fitness.
38 to 48 you can MOJO but your kidding yourself. Over 50. You will note ever solo guy is dead. Except Alex. And I would bet he saw the other side on his Valley of fire/red rocks/the vast Nevada mountains 24 hours of Alex deal.
I would encourage him to see Kyle Busch retirement plan. Short.
As for Adam. These are not risky. I say you have more of a chance dying on water. Driving. Living in LA.
And yes I was entertained.
Suspension bridge cables are way more dangerous. No teather. Fast rope at night with 90 pounds of junk on you. Risky.
Bicycles are damn dangerous. Especially on roads. Grizzlies.
No griz in Alps.
I can do three pullups lol.
That pretty much is the definitive statement. My pathetic chicken arms.

Fitness is interesting pursuit. 🤔 kinda addictive for many. I say go. Do it. Your not getting any younger.
@@sluggotinfantryman Haha thanks Dan. Alex is such a stud. I watch everything he does, but always worry he'll eventually make that one mistake. I really hope he just starts trad climbing -- I'd still watch all his climbs!--A
You two are cra cra crazy!!!
I watched this video sitting on my arse and realized the palms of hands were sweating!!! Yikes!! Thanks for the amazing video.
It's our pleasure to share, James! We love doing via ferratas and letting others know about this fun and relatively safe way of climbing epic stuff, so we have lots more via ferrata videos in Italy, Austria, and France if you like them! ❤️
One thing I love about your channel is the opportunity for us viewers to live vicariously through you both with these extreme adventures that most of us will never do.
Can we all just agree how amazing that footage was that followed Adam up the Stairway to Heaven! Breathtaking!
Great story about that footage! We met some guys on way up who were big fans of the channel, which is really cool in and of itself when it happens in Europe. One of them sent us that fade-away footage of Elise. And another of them is a photographer, so I just handed him my iPhone when it was my turn to go and and said, "give it back to me at the top." He shot all of that footage of me on the stairway, because Elise was already at the top of it! --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Hikers are so cool, that's very trusting! Many people would think that's crazy to do.
@@sagesam1951 Haha you're so right! It's just such a great vibe with other hikers -- especially on challenging trails over here -- that it never even occurred to me it would be anything but cool!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard What a cool story! You got tangible evidence of the reach of your channel. I'm sure it was a rewarding feeling for all of your dedication and hard work. I hope you exchanged numbers so you could work with them again on a future European excursion :)
@@sagesam1951 It would be funny to see Adam running after the rare weirdo who would make off with his iPhone. With Elise filming the scene, of course :)
AMAZING!!!! You captured it so beautifully - I want to go enjoy it now!!!! The Skybridge looked like so much fun but the entire climb seemed so amazing. Thank you so much for bring us all along with you on your adventures!!!!!
Thanks David -- very glad you enjoyed, and we definitely hope you will go climb it! It is a very fun climb, and pretty safe as long as you have a via ferrata harness. We think you will love it!! ❤️
You have such positive vibes, watching your ascent made me really happy. Thx for the great video.
Thanks very much! So glad you felt that while watching, because we were also really happy on this hike -- it was so beautiful there, and just challenging enough to be interesting without being too difficult. Really a wonderful place -- happy to share it with you! ❤️
you two have the most underrated youtube channel ive ever seen. your production value, the frequency of uploads, the COOL STUFF YOU DO. amazing. i love yall. please never stop, i've added SO MANY HIKES to my bucket list that i've never heard of because of you. Love yall ♥
Wow thank you, that is all we need to hear to keep us motivated! Our whole goal with this channel is just to give back to the hiking community, because the adventures we've been able to do have brought so much joy to our lives. It fills us with joy to know that you're adding a lot of these hikes to your list -- and please let us know when you do ones that you particularly love, because it will definitely make our day!! ❤️
I think this comment wins the day😊
Truly
For real! I don't even know what "big" TH-cam success is, but they surely deserve more.
Yes, I completely agree!
Wow, this was so cool. I loved all of it, especially with the amazing peaks and green fields of the Alps behind every shot. Looks like the greatest vacation ever :) Thanks!
It is, Matt -- quite literally our best vacation ever so far, and we've been blessed with some good ones! Really glad you're enjoying these. Can't wait to show you all we've still got coming up -- Austrian Alps, Dolomites, and then Swiss Alps! ❤️
Wow! What a fantastic video, the stairs part, wow!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Miguel! It was definitely a fun afternoon out for us, meeting some new people and just really getting into the whole Austria vibe. ❤️
Dear Adam & Elise.....I have been enjoying your adventures for a few years now....my 1st time posting a comment...thank you for all the beauty...It amazes me you two can be filming while on these very steep climbs...that is really something and your shots are always so clear and beautiful.
I loved what looked like a raven fly by you Elise at around the 7:28 time spot....enjoy your time there....I do look forward to your Sierra adventures :)
Thanks so much for commenting, Anita! It makes us both delighted to know you've been enjoying the adventures for so long. And good eye on the raven -- that was Adam's favorite part of the whole video! He loves filming me when there are birds flying by, especially if we're somewhere really high up, and those clips almost always make it into the edit. We've still got a few more weeks in Europe, but don't worry, we'll be right back up in the Sierra as soon as we get home, and we have a few really cool ones planned! ❤️ --E
That ladder looks absolutely insane! You guys rocked it! Love the skybridge pullups, seems like an awesome adventure! Inspiring content as always
Thanks very much! Ya the ladder is crazy and the rest of the via ferrata is super fun too. Lots of pure vertical, but also lots of anchor points so you never feel like you'll fall too far if you slip. Just a great time all around. ❤️
Love your videos!!! You've inspired me to get to the Alps and climb a via ferrata.
Thanks🙂
Yes Jeff!! So happy to hear that. It will absolutely change your life. We could honestly climb a VF every day and never get bored -- in fact, we might just do that for a year or two in retirement! ❤️
Outstanding video, just amazing what you find in Europe! Love your videos!
Thanks Dave! So glad you're into the Europe adventures. Yes the hiking and climbing over here is truly world class -- just incredible stuff everywhere you look, and we've got a couple more crazy Austrian ones coming up! ❤
That was an amazing hike, Adam. It's crazy doing pull-ups but very cool. I'm glad you guys had an amazing hike.
Thanks Luis! Yes we had so much fun on this one from beginning to end, and Adam really enjoyed the beer he won with his pull-ups! ❤️
Amazing!!! God Bless you both!!! Great work!🙏🙏🙏
Thanks very much -- so glad you saw this adventure because it was one of our favorites of the whole summer. God Bless! 🙏❤️
Ah I’ve been wanting to see y’all attempt this! So excited to watch
Awesome! So glad to bring you one you've been waiting for! We really had a good time on this, and were also blessed with perfect weather to enjoy the great views. ❤️
One of my favorites guys! No drama, just straight up Badassery! Great job!
Thanks Karl -- you would freaking love it here! So many places where your climbing skills would get you to incredible spots, especially in the Dolomites! ❤️
Wow! Talk about scary! You two are Mountain Climbers, part Birds! What an amazing adventure! The views are awesome and I bet you have to be pretty strong to do all that climbing! Your trips never cease to amaze me. Stay safe and continue to have fun! Looking forward to your next one.
Thanks Joseph! It's funny, because we were saying while we did this one that it takes a different kind of strength -- lots of arms and hands, but not nearly as much legs as climbing 10,000 feet up Mont Blanc with heavy packs! So it's a great way to mix things up when you can do a big hike and then a via ferrata, or like next week's adventure a big hike WITH a big via ferrata! ❤️
Wow - what a beautiful film - you guy's are awesome!
Thanks Steve! We had a ton of fun making this one -- it was just so beautiful and enjoyable up there, and glad we could share it! ❤️
So glad you loved that hike up the ladder. It was breathtaking but scary fo watch. Love all your videos
Thanks Bernard, yes we truly did love this hike! Delighted that you are loving the videos, and lots more to come!! ❤️
Amazing guys!!! I have been following your channel since the beginning! I’m a super fan and I love everything you two do!! You just nailed this one!! As an active hiker also from California you two are totally an inspiration for me!! I want to do this via Ferrata now!! Thanks for the motivation!! Keep challenging yourselves!! 😝👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love you two!! 🥰🙏🏼
Wow thank you this is such a great message to wake up to on an Alpine morning! I'm super excited that we're making you want to do via ferrata -- it's such a game-changer in terms of letting hikers evolve into climbers in a fairly safe and very fun way, and this would be a PERFECT one to start with! Meanwhile, we'll def keep the challenges coming -- wait til you see the crazy one we're putting up next week! ❤️ --A
Wow that is some incredible footage!
The two of you have tremendous courage. I would freeze if I ever managed to somehow make it onto that ladder.
Thanks very much! Haha you wouldn't freeze -- it's super scary when you first look at it, but once you're on it you just go step by step and trust your harness will protect you. By the time you got to the end we bet you'd want to go again! ❤️
YOU HAVE TOO MUCH FREAKIN' FUN!!! Keep knockin' it out of the park and thanks as always for sharing your excellent adventures with us all. Can't wait for whatever is next. ❤❤
Thanks Dan, and you're right -- this one was seriously too much fun. Just full joy the whole way, with little to no suffering 😂. But the one we're editing for next week I think you'll enjoy a lot -- definitely some suffering but also a lot of fun on something our Austrian friends call "the impossible hike!" --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard - Can't wait!!
Once again blown away by both of you. Adam bringing it with pull-ups on that ladder, over the top!!! Hope you are both back at home in California. What a great and beautiful adventure👍. Tom
Thanks Tom! This one was so much fun, and a perfect recovery hike after Mont Blanc. Highly recommend. ❤️
Still loving the channel. These last videos have been epic. So excited to see you both conquer Mont Blanc! That is no joke!! Always love when I recognize the music too.
Thanks Ashwin! So glad you saw MB -- it's been a goal of ours for a really long time, and it felt so good to do it on such a beautiful clear day. Really glad you're enjoying these Euro vids -- lots more crazy stuff coming up!! ❤️
Such a gnarly hike - congrats on completing it!
Thanks so much! It was really a perfect recovery day after Mont Blanc -- not too physically difficult, but a TON of vertical fun!! ❤️
Wow! What a great adventure! Great Job!
Thanks Eric! This one was just pure fun -- no suffering, just joy, which was pretty darn nice. ❤️
Great video, looked like a really great time. I'm also a big fan of Austrias Via Ferratas. Even many of the rather unknown ones often are build in fun way and offer exciting vertical sections with great views below.
Yes! The Austrians really have an incredible hiking culture, and you're right about the less famous ones too. Just to whet your appetite -- next week we're doing Konigsjolder!!! ❤️
I am always amazed at how often your "hikes" look like climbing a mountain. 🙂 Beautiful scenery.
Haha yes Bill especially in Europe where they have all these beautiful via ferrata that let you hike up almost vertically! Often there's also a more traditional hiking trail to the top as well, but if you give us a chance to go vertical it's pretty likely we'll take it! ❤️
This is INSANE! I live through you two, my fear of heights will never allow me to do such an awesome hike.
Haha that's okay, we're delighted to keep bringing you some vicarious verticals! As you know we love all kinds of hikes, but the verticals are definitely Adam's favorite so you know we'll always have another one of those coming soon! ❤️
A very beautiful place, with a nice hike, it's great to see you both having a great time, thank you so much for sharing, Larry Owens
Oh, I have held off suggesting any adventurous placed, but here are a few I love, Norway, Bjerkvik to Reine
Iceland, Stuolaks, Hrutsfjallstindar
Greenland, Ulamertorsvaq,Tasermiut Fjord
NWTerritories
Cirque of the Unclimbables
B.C.
Purcell Mountains, The Bugaboos
I have more but this should keep you busy for awhile
These are great suggestions, Larry! OMG Norway and Greenland are high up on our dream list, and we've done some great Iceland hikes but would love to go back again for longer and make some videos. Can't wait to look into these other ones too -- you're going to keep us busy in early retirement! ❤️
Wow, that was your "rest day"?! Amazing video, and that footage of the sky bridge was epic.
Haha yes, after Mont Blanc this one definitely felt pretty relaxing -- but also a heck of a lot of fun, which is a really good deal when you think about it! ❤️
Just incredible climbing! I could never do this! Beautiful video!
Thank you -- it was such a fun climb, and Austria really is a beautiful place. So glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
From day one when I first discovered your channel guys my very first words out of my mouth were “Your nuts”! After I don’t know how many vlogs latter I still come back to those words time after time. When Adam said even a beginner can do it there’s only one caveat. You have to be NUTS! That music you use to create tension in your vlogs always gets to me. I call it your Rattlesnake sound! Very effective. Another great one guys! Elise you were outstanding and so poised up there. You and Adam both looked right home. The only thing that could have really made it better was Adam doing a one arm pull-up while eating a PopTart with the other hand. Elise we must remember not to give him that idea next time! 😂 Love you JB & PT. ❤️
Hahaha Larry I always look forward to your comments so much, and the one-armed pull-up pop-tart idea is genius! I'm not sure I could do a full pull-up with just one arm, but I could definitely hang from one and eat a pop tart with the other! Hmmm... ❤️ --A
I love to watch you guys! My wife and I are avid hikers but we do not do via ferrata's as they terrify her. In fact, we were supposed to be hiking in Austria right now but I broke a foot we had to cancel. We rescheduled for later this year but for now I will have to do my hiking 'virtually' through your videos. I can always see the joy you both get from this which I totally get. My wife and I have for many years tried to get friends and family to share our joy of hiking but to no avail. If only we could make such great videos too then perhaps they would see!
Dwayne so sorry to hear about your foot! OMG as you know we hate being injured so much, but it does happen to everyone at some point. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery! And meanwhile, so happy we can take you along on these adventures virtually and get you psyched for the Alps -- you won't believe the Austrian epic that we tackle next week! ❤️
WOW I suggested this for you a while ago, and you actually doing it. LOOKS LOOKS crazy. Amazing hike and thrilling experience. Be safe
Seriously a great suggestion on your part. We absolutely had a blast on this one -- not too hard but just a ton of good old fashioned vertical fun. As you know we love when you guys give us suggestions, so keep 'em coming! ❤️
awesome footage
Thanks Shane! So fortunate to run into fans of the channel on the hike who could capture that sky bridge footage!!! ❤️
Seen this on many German and Austrian TH-cam channels. Just spectacular. Awesome to see you two do this, too.
That's so cool! It makes perfect sense now too, because we didn't see even one other American on the Austrian hikes we did, but boy did we meet a lot of awesome Austrians and Germans -- and a lot of Czechs as well! ❤️
Enjoy the Austria, it´s nice to see that you keep discovering and also provide amazing hi-quality content. Keep enjoying the life!
With love, M.
Thanks very much -- we really have been loving Austria so much! We stayed many extra days there on this trip because we couldn't bring ourselves to leave, and will for sure come back and explore even more next summer! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard that´s amazing! I am glad that you guys keep exploring and enjoying new and new adventures. I am aiming to hit Raxalpe in Austria in August, with my daughter. So hopefully, we´ll see you live one day 😉
Keep enjoying the life & stay safe!
@@strigoiimortii Have fun in Raxalpe, and please let us know how it is! ❤
@@LiveHardxLoveHard awww, thank you so much! I have my travel plans prepared already (with links, coordinates, maps etc. - I can share that with you), so I just hope that weather will be favorable, and we can enjoy beautiful time with gorgeous sights and massive emotional rewards. Since my sweetheart is still small and lacks upper body strength, we´ll be hitting easier via ferratas for now, and gradually keep increasing the challenge over time. Anyway, it´s gonna be awesome, I am pretty sure of that 😉
what a great climb and stunning view 👍
Thanks so much -- yes Austria has so many places like this, where the hiking and climbing is super exciting and the views are just mesmerizing. Wait til you see the one we're posting next week -- it's truly crazy!!! ❤️
No fn way brother!!!
You had me up to the Stairway To Heaven. Gorgeous and beautiful views, but that's why we watch you two do this.
Glad you enjoyed, Paul! Ya Austria really blew us away with its beauty, and hang on to your hat because the next Austrian adventure was even crazier! --A
Again bravo both you good capture
Thanks Jeff! Pure fun on this one!! ❤️
just catching up after being on a "staycation" getting the honey-do list done. Adam, you are insane! I realize you were clipped in, but it would take a lot more than a single beer to get me to attempt that! As always, thanks for taking us along!
Thanks Jeff! Glad you're getting some good staycation home improvement done -- I actually love doing that kind of thing, but rarely get a chance because Elise's honey-do list usually consists of finding and executing some kind of hiking or climbing adventure 😂. So the adventures are good, but the apartment is a wreck! --A
OMG...amazing hike! Nice.
Thanks Robert! It was a great combination of perfect weather and some good advice from friends we met on a mountain all coming together in a super fun day. ❤️
Wild and freaking' awesome!!!
Thanks Jim! One of the funnest hikes we did all year -- very glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
I need a recovery from your recovery hike. That would be terrifying for some of us. Clearly you had a blast and the scenery is unbelievable. You guys make the best video's, I love what you do.
Hahaha yeah this one was definitely not for the acrophobic! But just as you say, it was so beautiful and fun. On the way up we were saying that it was basically like our version of Disneyland! ❤️
It actually did look like a fun experience for the two of you. Vertical it was but you both looked quite relaxed. Heading to Austria next May although no hikes like that planned.
Oh my gosh you are going to LOVE Austria -- we just liked everything, from the hiking to the people to the food to the beauty everywhere you looked. There are so many great hikes of all levels -- it's really a hiking culture over there. ❤️
Excellent video, the angles really show how steep it is. I disagree with you about a beginner being able to do this though, unless you are a pretty solid rock climber, or have at least done some level 2-3 Via Ferrata climbs, this would be very challenging. Just a thought, I am not saying don't do it, just be ready to not go so slow that you hold up the folks who are ready. Thank you for a great video, the drone footage of the ladder was epic. Jim
Thanks Jim! Ya that's a really good point about not holding people up. A fit person could most likely physically do this as their first one, but it would be better to practice on a couple of much less crowded ones first to work out all the kinks!
Holy Smokes! What an incredible hike! I hope you found that Austrian beer afterwards! Kudos
We sure did, Brian! And it started kind of a whole beer thing while we were in Austria -- in fact, we might even show a couple of them in the next video, which were well deserved because the next hike we did makes this one look like a walk in the park! ❤️
Super cool hike, a bucket list place for sure. That ladder accent was making my palms sweaty 💦
You definitely have to do it! The ladder is scary of course because you're looking straight down, but with the harness it's also very safe so that makes it incredibly fun. The whole hike feels a bit like an amusement park for fit, adventurous, outdoors-loving adults! ❤️
Oh my goodness this scared me to death!!! I've seen this ladder in other climbing videos. It honestly takes my breath away!! I'm so happy for both of you, that you are doing what you Love!! How scary was it coming down?❤️
Thanks Cynthia! You hike down the back side in kind of a loop, so it was actually pretty chill coming down -- steep in a few places but definitely not like it was coming up. Ya this ladder is pretty famous, and deservedly so -- it's really super cool when you're on it! ❤️
What an experience! Great views as always. The pull-ups look great and I agree that this was not the most dangerous on your trip so far. Thank you, as always, for your content. Are you going to Switzerland afterwards? There are some beautiful mountains too. 😉
Haha you know us too well! We're in Zermatt right now, and just did the Breithorn to Central Breithorn traverse today. It was incredible. We've got a lot of stuff to edit from this trip so it might not come out for a while, but so far Switzerland is blowing our minds! ❤️
Tell me Elise.. Are you able to walk normaly after a hike like this!!! I was amazed by that ladder... So incredible scenery. I can see you both are in heaven... Keep it up 👍🎂🤗🙏🥂😴🥂
Haha yes Serge after this one I had no problems walking around, but after Mont Blanc it was different -- my legs were sore for 3 days from that one!!! ❤️ --E
I love that you are travelling...now come home!
Haha just a few more weeks, Bill -- but we're pretty sure you'll like what we've been doing. The one for next week is nicknamed "the impossible hike!" ❤️
Pretty darn awesome. Definitely on the list. Hope you get to do the VF on the Daubenhorn, the longest one in Switzerland!
We have it on the schedule! Of course, like many of these adventures it will be weather dependent, but if we get the right weather we're going for it!! ❤️
Woaaaahhhh hhahaha nope I will not be doing that one! You guys do some wild adventures! My legs would be shaking so badly on that ladder 😅
I’m glad you guys did this one and took us along! 🏔️
such cool footage also so glad you met a friend who could capture that!! Lots of love on your next adventure ❤❤❤
Haha Early, no! We were saying the entire time in Austria that we need to go back with you and Marco. We will take you on the klettersteigs and you will share your German skills with us 😂 We are definitely super motivated after being here for a few weeks to get our German going. There were too many awesome people we met that we wished we could have better conversations with! Love you!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard oh my goodness YESS!!! Kate is learning German too. We can all Deutsch sprechen together! 🤗🤗🤗
I love this!! Saw this hike a while back from another channel, but you guys showed much more of the entire route, and it def looks more challenging than the stairway alone. It took you 4hrs total?
Yes the stairway looks scary but was actually a lot easier than the summit-block section that immediately follows it! It took us about 4 hours total, but honestly that was a pretty relaxed 4 what with filming, chatting with other hikers, goofing around at the top, etc. If someone wanted to go fast they could prob get the whole thing done in 3 or even less, but it was definitely worth taking the time to relax and enjoy all those views! ❤️
Yay! Glad y'all got around to this particular hike! Were y'all able to enjoy the views on the Stairway at all or did you just concentrate on getting it over with?
That's a good question, and yes we definitely enjoyed the views from the Stairway! We've gotten accustomed enough to our via ferrata equipment that we really trust it, so as long as we're clipped in and not hanging desperately from one hand or something, we really are able to take in the beauty of these climbs. Love it! ❤️
Amazing😱😱 Now I want to do it!!!
Stephanie you definitely should! This one is a perfect beginner level via ferrata -- nothing too dangerous, but lots and lots or thrills and great views. Highly recommend. Plus, Austria itself is SO great!! ❤️
As usual I was terrified. Amazing.
Haha so happy to take you up there, Jose! Austrians really know how to put a fun hike together!! ❤️
Kudos! It's funny I'm heading to Austria next week and Donnerkogel is on the list😊
That's awesome -- really fun hike, and quite social. Made some nice friends along the way! ❤️
You two are way beyond what I would ever try . I can live vicariously but I am sweating like crazy please be safe and don't over do it for us video fans
Thanks Roger, and don't worry -- we would never take risk for a video. We just enjoy filming and sharing the adventures we actually do! ❤️
what a fantastic and exciting climb😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thanks John! Ya we had non-stop excitement in Austria, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Incredible country for hiking and climbing!❤️
So cool!
Thanks Ross -- the Austrians really know how to make a fun hike!! ❤️
This has been on my bucket list since I first heard about it a few years ago. I'm so jealous!
Oh my gosh you really have to do it. It's not too hard, but the fun level is absolutely off the charts. You will love it -- and Austria is just incredible all the way around. We stayed a week longer than planned there to do more adventures, and will be going back often for more Austrian fun! ❤️
AMAZING shots - your filming (and I guess post production) is top notch! There is no way in hell I will do this - but I enjoyed to watch your footage.
Haha thanks very much -- we've been working hard on our filming and editing, and it's great to hear you enjoyed it. Lots more videos coming up from this trip, so stay tuned! ❤️
I’m surprised Adam didn’t make the skybridge his snack spot lol
OMG you know he totally would have, John, but there were other people waiting to ascend the ladder so he had to be polite! ❤️
OMG I'm in awe! Nice "recovery" day!
Haha yeah it's definitely all relative, but this one felt like a day at the beach after Mont Blanc! Still, a really fun day at the beach!! ❤️
absolutely amazing
Austria is incredible! Can’t wait to show you this week’s- they call it the “impossible” hike!
Uff! So beautiful, glad it's you doing it...
Haha yeah this one really gives a lot of bang for the buck in terms of views. A few scary drops, but not actually too hard of a climb as far as klettersteigs go! ❤️
I like watching people who do insane things so I don't ever have to. Like watching people spelunking, exploring old abandoned mines, etc. Stay safe you two.
Haha we love watching that stuff too -- and of course doing it! Canyoneering and spelunking are definitely ways we plan on expanding our skill set!! ❤️
Love this so much! We head to Austria in 2 weeks and are planning on doing this! Did you guys stay at the Gablonzer Hütte or start at the bottom of the chairlift?
Awesome!!! You will love this -- SO much fun! We just took the chairlift up when it started running, but if you stay at the hut you could start a lot earlier and probably have the whole hike to yourselves if you wanted to. Excited to hear how you like it -- and this one is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of spectacular climbs in that area. Wait until you see the ones we did after this!!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thanks! Yes, I can't wait to see your other climbs!
haven't finished the video yet, but i was actually planning on doing this next month. Question, do you guys rent a vehicle out there and go between countries? or do you take trains/planes between the different countries?
Fantastic, Eddie! We rented a car and drove between countries because we like whenever possible to get out on the trails early before the busses start running (that way we have the trail pretty much to ourselves), and having a car is really the only way to do that. On this one, we drove but then took a tram up so were on it with a lot of other people, but that was fun too because it's a great way to meet interesting folks! Either way, you're going to have so much fun on your trip!!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard gotcha, I have a car in poland, and from where we own property there, vienna is 4 hours away, So most likely going that route. Did you guys rent the via ferrata lenyards out there? or do you have your own? I have a climbing harness but dont have the ferrata lenyards
Adam and Elise, that stairway is crazy!
I hope you both drank a beer after that climb!
MN Dave
We sure did, Dave -- and then a couple more after that!!! ❤️
Wow fantastic
Thanks John! Ya this climb gives a lot of excitement in a pretty short time!! ❤️
Craziness but gorgeous at the same time
Haha that's how I always describe Elise, Rick! 😂 --A
Recover activity?? You two are amazing! The pull-ups, Adam, were in the serious baller category. At the peak, you are what elevation? And I have to ask, what is the hike down like? Do you go back the same way you got there? Love you!
Bob this one totally encapsulates the vacation -- great weather, lots of pure fun and adrenaline, and meeting some really nice people along the way. It wasn't too high up, just under 7,000 at the peak, and the way down was pretty chill. It was a hiking trail that looped around the other side of the mountain -- steep in places, but nothing like those crazy verticals on the way up. Can't wait to see you guys in person and tell you some of the best stories from the trip! --A
snow is melting fast in Cali, wildflowers out soon, hurry home yo
Not to worry Marc -- we'll be back in a few weeks and of course have some big Sierra goals, but in the meantime we're finding some epic adventures over here! ❤️
Howdy from a former Squaw Valley guy from No. Calif. Your content is stunning and I'm a new fan and subscriber. May I ask about the descent from this climb? I presume it's just a regular hike down? Stay safe ..
Craig so glad you found us! Really happy you're enjoying the videos, and yes you're right about the hike down. Most via ferratas, including this one, have a trail around the back side of the mountain that hikers climb up and down, and via ferrata climbers use to go down. Sometimes it's really steep and sketchy, like the one on Tomaselli, but even so it's still better than going back down the cables! ❤️
That place is beautiful, wow! Love you guys, as crazy as you are, love, love you!
Thanks so much -- yes Austria is just amazing, and we ended up staying for a whole week beyond our original plan because it was so beautiful and there was so much adventuring to do. And if you like the crazy, just wait until you see the sufferfest we do next week! ❤️
No words... Just... WOW😮
Haha thanks Edu! So much of the Alps has us exactly the same way -- we look out at all that beauty and all we can say is Wow! ❤️
You both are such an inspiration and so cute together. My husband and I enjoy watching your videos so much. Every adventure you go on is so epic. We are heading to Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland in July and I cannot wait. I do not know if we will be attempting this via ferrata since this would be our first, but we will be doing a lot of hiking. What would be a good beginner via ferrata in the USA or Europe that you recommend? Thank you for sharing your experiences with us ❤❤.
Oh my gosh Eleni, that's amazing! So excited for you guys. You're going to have an amazing time. As for your first via ferrata, we'd recommend Piccolo Cir in the Dolomites. It is SO beautiful, but quite easy and perfect for beginners. We have a video on it, so you can check it out before you go to get a sense of it. Pretty sure you guys will love it!! ❤️
Thank you so much ❤.
Possibly going to Madrid Spain next June for my grandson to do a soccer clinic there.
Hoping to get some hiking in, any recommendations?
P.S. that looked like a phenomenal climb
Monty that sounds amazing -- Madrid is one of my all-time favorite cities! Unfortunately we haven't done any Spain hiking yet, though the Pyrenees are very high on our list and we will probably do some hikes there next year. Please let us know if you discover anything good that we should do! ❤️ --E
incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Kaitlyn! Such a fun and beautiful via ferrata!! ❤️
Those via ferrata climbs look amazing, both yours and those I've seen on other videos. You say it's suitable for beginners, but I'm not sure I could (from a mental point of view) get myself out on that wobbly a ladder (even without pull-ups ambitions)!!! Did you have to go down the same way?
Yes Catherine, overcoming that fear of heights -- trusting your harness and via ferrata tethers -- is really the key to doing these. You could definitely handle it physically, but developing trust in the protection takes a little practice. But it's well worth it! The descent was actually a lovely hiking loop -- steep, but no need for tethers -- that winds around the other side of the mountain. ❤️
I have no words for this video but only it is amazing. The stairway to heaven, holy shit 😍 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽💪💪
Heck yeah -- this was soooo fun!!! Really the whole trip through Austria was just amazing!! ❤️
Hi! We are going to be doing this soon ! We can not wait
That is great to hear -- you're going to love it so much! Please let us know how it goes, and have the best time! ❤️
Awesome adventure beautiful down below and scary on the stairway, I'll skip the rock climbing and the stairway....Thanks for sharing
Thanks Andrea -- you would have loved this one because when we got to the top we discovered there were two options. You could actually hike all the to the top around the back side (which is how we went down) and still get all those incredible views from the top without the vertical climbing, which is what most people did! ❤️
ADAM'S PULLUPS wow.... i can't believe this ladder !!!
Kate so glad you saw this one -- just pure fun, on one of the funnest vacations ever. We're in Zermatt now and loving it! Next time we'll do a better job of matching up our schedules with you guys, cause miss seeing you! --A
Epic!!
Thanks Alex! Ya this one is an Austrian classic -- not too hard, but SO fun!!
You guys light my fire, do not stop what you're doing.
Thanks very much, and we will most definitely keep after it!!! ❤️
Question!! How do people get those pics of themselves on the ladder? Is there a photographer on site?
No people just have their friends do it. There's a place you can walk over to get a good angle as someone climbs the ladder. But we were super lucky -- we ran into some big fans of the channel who were literally professional photographers, and even had a drone, so they took some amazing shots of us while we climbed. Adam handed his iphone to them, and they took the shots of him on it and then handed it back to him at the top! ❤️
This, as well as your last hike, look bloody scary. What about when you've reached the top? Easy way back down?
Ya the way down was pretty chill, it's a nice long loop with nothing too vertical and lots of pretty views. We had a total blast on this one, but in truth weren't nearly as scared here as we were on Mont Blanc when the wind got crazy on that narrow ridge at 15,000 feet! ❤️
I kept thinking one misstep and you would be listening to the Sound of Music in heaven.
Haha if we could have beautiful climbing and some good music, Monte, heaven will be ok by us! ❤️
Yay! I have seen that ladder on TH-cam before but didn't know where it was! Glad you guys found it over there! Very cool!!! How the heck did you get shots of both of you climbing the ladder? Adam was at the bottom when you were climbing yet you got him climbing. Did you have to climb it twice? 🤔
Even better than us filming it -- we passed some guys going up and they were fans of the channel! We stopped and chatted with them for a while, and then when we were at the ladder they offered to help us film it. Adam gave one of the guys his iPhone and then we just got it back at the top. So cool. It just so happened he's a really talented photographer, too (we put his info in the description) so the footage probably turned out better than if we'd just done it ourselves!
@LiveHardxLoveHard perfect! You are famous!
@@kari4295 😂Well only a handful of people have recognized us the whole time we've been over here, but they've all been awesome people so we'll take it!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard 😄❤️
Holy crap 😁 what camera was used here?
This was a funny mix of cameras, because we normally just use our iphone 13 and GoPro 10, but on this hike we actually met two European fans of the channel who offered to film Elise climbing up with their drone and send us the footage. So that super cool shot of her climbing while the camera goes up and back was shot with their drone, and the rest of the video was just our regular cameras. ❤️
Pretty cool.
Glad you enjoyed -- sometimes the easier days can be the most fun! ❤️
3:01 What’s the contraption you are using on the cable Elise ? Seems as tho you have a clicker device on the cable.
Paul this is a via ferrata tether system that Adam built for us out of dynamic high-rise construction tethers and carabiners. It provides excellent protection, because we clip the carabiners above each anchor point and then they slide up the cable with us to the next anchor point. In the event of a fall, we would only slide down to the anchor point below rather than falling all the way off the mountain. It makes climbing via ferratas a much safer proposition! ❤️
Awesome video, must say, as always! I really wonder how you do that, a "normal" person would be fully absorbed doing the climb! By the way, if you still happen to be in the Alps end of August, specifically in the Dolomites, I´d be happy to invite you for a dinner, a beer or a coffee, I´m in Sexten/Sesto from August 24!
Oh my gosh Lothar, we were just there and had some amazing hikes! Unfortunately we have to head home and back to work at the beginning of August, but we'll be back for a longer time and with more flexibility next summer after Adam early retires so let's definitely get together then! ❤️
Was there any part when you were leaning backwards or hanging. I have done Nelson Rock and Torrent Falls (sec 1-5) (Kentucky) Via Ferrata and wondering if I am ready for this. Will appreciate if you could explain what difficulty C/D mean on this one in your words.
That's a great question. On this one, there was a lot of vertical but really no overhangs, which is why we think a very fit beginner could probably do it. You're right to ask, because overhangs add a whole level of difficulty that is really challenging, but here it is just straight up vertical with no laybacks needed. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHardawesome, thank you so much.
@@junaidbhatti4264 Any time
@@LiveHardxLoveHardI did it finally. Just got back home. I was there on Sept 12. Started at 3 PM after riding my motorcycle for 5+ hrs. Definitely don’t recommend that. Clearly more of a hike with Via Ferrata and coming down in absolute darkness presented with unique challenge.
Thanks for answering my questions.
@@junaidbhatti4264 Wow good for you! It must have been really hard coming down that back side in the dark -- there were some really steep and rocky parts. Very glad you made it ok! ❤
ELISE and ADAM a good morning from France. Your holidays continue in Europe, and in Austria you indulge in an exercise other than the climb of Mont Blanc. Shot in sumptuous landscapes, this video is very spectacular, it presents many difficulties that do not scare you, you have fun. Forgetting the ladder stretched between the two mountains, ELISE seems to fly in the air with amazing mastery, while you ADAM you play with the void, it's very impressive. What a joy to see ELISE climb the steep walls, permanently forgetting her back problem, which makes me happy, she savors every moment. You are "Spider-Man", but unlike this cinematic hero you evolve without tricks. Kisses to both of you. DAN.
DAN.
C'est joliment dit, Dan! Elise dit merci, et tu nous connais tres bien: Spiderman a toujours ete mon superhero prefere! ❤️ --A
