We are farmers in Missouri doing a out of frame on a big-cam 855. We really appreciate your video. You are an amazing talented hard working individual. Thanks again.
Good thing a cam replacement is not something thats needed too often. I had a Big Cam IV in a KW cabover. Really like these engines a lot, they go forever.
Hello again the farmers from Missouri got our parts from Don's Diesel in Lawrence Kansas. Did not notice which way the cam key offset went. I not sure we even notice it was offset at all until today. I have factory cummins repair manual and cpl is 1232 , Manual says note offset direction when removing. daa!! I really appreciate your help. Lanny
@@lannymeng6401 just saw your reply. You were suppose to watch what direction it was pointing prior to removal. You have to put it back the same way. Check for markings from removal and try to remember how you took it off.
Have you ever set your injectors using a dial indicator ? Check into it cause the dial indicator method compensates for the inner and outer base circle all in one. I like cabovers but in a head on your the first one on scene (not pretty) ALL THE BEST.
I would use reliance again. The product looked like good quality. The only problem was the holes on the camshaft bearings. Other than that, its all good. So far the truck is running with no problems.
Like your video. I got some rocker shaft "O" rings. Push out the shaft a little ways and found no "O" ring. Only a black steel washer, both ends are the same. Do I remove the steel washer and replace with the "O" ? Thanks, Steve
morning Eduardo, when you removed rad. you should have pressure cleaned engine before removing any thing else, much cleaner for strip down and assembly, make sure you give parts supplier a reprimand about there poorly engineered cam bearings.
Thank you for this video sir! its very informative... Good Job 👍👍👍 Can i Ask something sir? What causes if my engine nt855 bigcam there is to much oil coming out from the exhaust...
Thanks for the video it's really helpful.I'm currently replacing my camshaft and wondering if you've had any issues with that aftermarket camshaft? I'm debating on buying a cummins or going aftermarket and save some cash.
Great video. Very helpful. I would like to ask you where you supported the engine when you jacked it up? I'm not sure if the pan will handle the weight. Any advice?
This will work for removing and installing the cam bearings. It will work only to install the very last one, (rear most of the engine) but will not be able to remove it. You would have to make a tool, or purchase one to remove it. To purchase that tool is more expensive than the one i sent you
@@lifeintrucking.eduardomorales Thank you for the tool # link and very detailed informative video. With the tool, and your video, I feel confident to replace my camshaft bearings myself. Jay
@@lifeintrucking.eduardomorales I can't seem to get rid of my rough idle after reassembly. During the whole project, I've had the heads rebuilt, replaced all injectors, had the bad roller replaced on the follower, and even ran a 7th injector through all of the cylinders just to rule them out. ECM test said the entire thing was wiped clean and I'm getting a new one and I had to supply some of the parameters for them. (Getting the 525hp upgrade at no extra charge). I'll get that tomorrow or Thursday and will see what happens when I start the engine.
@@lifeintrucking.eduardomorales Well changing the cam was not in my original plan. I had a leaky follower for a long time, and decided to pull it when I had everything else removed. That is when I saw the damaged lobe. At that point I couldn't just leave it the way it is. I installed the same thickness of gaskets that I removed, and hoped for the best.
@@razedonradio969 if you replaced with same cam and came close to the thickness of gaskets, you should be fine. Something else is not letting your truck idle right. Have you checked your jake adjustment?

Bearings from Cummins are 60$……because they are correct and don’t require drilling or expanding of the oil passage. Iv heard many people say to do this and it will be fine. My personal opinion is do not do this ever, the cam is a vital and highly sensitive part. I understand trying to save some money but how much money do you save if you happen to cause a deformity or a bur that goes unnoticed and damage your newly installed camshaft? At that point the 60$ per seems pretty cheap then doesn’t it.
You are missing the point. This video was not about saving money. And yes, cummins parts can be better. I have not had any problems with my camshaft or bearings. And it was not luck. Just need to know what your doing.

Hola,Eduardo! If don't mind me asking. How much was the camshaft? TKS!
The camshaft was about $600
What are the rocker boxes and jakes torqued to?
Hello the farmers from Missouri, how did you get the cam gear off the old cam
I used a flat screw driver and a hammer. Try not to damage it when taking it out.
@@lifeintrucking.eduardomorales thanks
What do the cross heads adjust the pushrod play or something
Yes. You are just making sure the adjustment on that part is correct. If not, then it's getting adjusted before doing the valve adjustments.
How to set 855 injector nozzles
Did you have any timing issues when you changed your cam?
I did not.

That's the inner base circle method. You adjust based on the book. You never adjust injector or valves on same cylinder on this method

A chain saw file a you could of oblonged it with a dremall yea that a oiling hole a then chamfer the hole with a razor blade

3049024
This is for a Cummins 855 BC Flangeless Camshaft. Double check with your engine serial # or old camshaft
Next time put the cam bearings in the freezer overnight, they should slide in much easier…
