My choir sang this in my first year of high school, and two weeks before we performed it to the school, a teacher tragically passed away. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Now, 5 years later, I'm singing it again in my final performance in my senior year. Life's full of tough goodbyes, some sudden and tragic, others long-awaited, but there's always the new beginnings right around the corner.
maybe no one will see this comment. if you do though, brace yourself. we unfortunately had a member of our hs choir die due to suicide end of 2021. he wanted us to sing at his funeral. he was a senior, and this was one of the songs the seniors had already sung their freshman year, so we quickly (re)learned it so that we could perform it. i may have only learned this song in 5ish days, but i will remember it forever and cry everytime i hear it.
We just chose this as our senior farewell song for chorus today and I couldn’t even sing it in class without getting emotional, so I can’t wait to see how I react to performing it at my last chorus concert!!
Emily H. Omg you're gonna ball. I did this my sophomore year for competition, and there was never a time I didn't cry while singing it, the song is powerful in itself. However in the right setting (such as a graduation,) it can't be even more powerful.
This was my senior farewell song in high school and even though I hated that place, listening to this still makes me come to tears as music was my happy place
My choral teacher passed away after a 12 year battle with lung cancer. She had been teaching for 30+ years. This song made all her kids think of her because we knew it was coming eventually just... rest in paradise
This piece is the traditional graduation song at my Alma Mater. I cried when I sang this as a Senior. Years later and I can still sing it from memory with little errors.
This is the song my choir sang for graduation my senior year. It brings me to tears everytime, remembering the times I had with my fellow choir mates and how I miss them a lot. This song is not just one of goodbyes, but also one of remembrance.
My chorus is doing this song and I’m a senior this year, but it brings me such joy to read everyone else’s comments, seeing how music can connect us through time and space!!
Years after leaving high school and leaving my choir this song is still one of the ones that was most heavily imprinted on my heart. I have this beautiful memory of it being late at night and me being out with a few of my choir mates during a school trip, we decided to stop in this parking lot for no real reason and we just started singing this song together. Next day we sang this with the whole group and made the judges at the competition we were at break into tears, ending with us winning, but above all else what stuck with me the most, when I think it was sung the most beautifully, was that night before when the air was cool and we just let out our souls for no other reason than because it felt right.
We sang this for graduation and our final concert in high school. Such a lovely piece - and I adore how Stroope wrote the tenor part for the last two pages. Seriously, this is one of the few songs where tenors actually get to sing high notes forte, so no falsetto!
I'm a senior and I already sang this song but I this is my favorite song and my choir class is going on a trip soon to Disneyland and singing this again
My choir and I sang this and we all were very emotional during this song. We had to choose between this song or a song that a few of our seniors wrote for graduation. Of course we chose that seniors songs. Such a lovely and beautiful song to sing. Hope it bring many more people as much joy and hope as it brought us.😖😖
we sang this song freshman year. we sounded beautiful and this was my favorite piece that we’ve ever done. i’m now a junior, and i miss those days so much.
This is my choir's farewell song! We sing it every year at the spring concert and the alumni come up on stage to sing it with us! The last year I was there I didn't take choir that last semester but, the words were etched on to my heart. What a beautiful piece that evokes feelings of nostalgia and grandeur! My director loved Z. Randall Stroope and I can see why!
All the seniors in my school, me included, have to sing this song April 26th for the final concert. Currently can't keep it together when singing this song and keep breaking to cry. But I hope with enough practice, I learn to keep it together and sing my heart out.
Such a beautiful and powerful song. It brings me to tears every time I hear it. My choir was supposed to sing it this year but we were unable to. I really hope we get the chance to do it this year
Remember singing this sophomore year. Then as a farewell for/from the seniors we all gathered around our high school music teacher and sang it a second time at the end of the concert. Don't think a one of us (boys and girls) weren't crying.
My school choir (Sweet Home High School Symphonic Choir) sang this song for our final concert and for our graduation (June 9, 2018). I cry everytime I hear it.
Can't believe I'm graduating in 3 months, we will get to finally sing this song at our graduation ceremony. Can't wait but at the same time I will be very sad to leave, I've made so many memories at my high school and will miss it dearly. Most memories I never got to make because of COVID and that makes me angry. but I am thankful for the ones I was so lucky to make.
This is a song that every year the seniors use their senior selection in order to do it. It was my senior year and due to Covid-19 I didn't get to do it one last time
My choir teacher is having us do this piece (we just got the music today) and I love it. Z. Randall Stroope never misses with these lovely pieces, every one by him we've done is so beautiful and gives me chills. I wish I had the talent this dude has.
I sang this in 8th grade with the highschool, my first Highschool experience. This was also my Senior Graduation song. So many memories everytime it plays🥲
"Omnia sol temperat, Absens in remota. Ama me fideliter, Fidem mean noto." translated means "The sun warms everything, Far away. Love me faithfully, Faith mean something known."
Somewhere far from nowhere, I grew both strong and tall Longing to become, but knowing not the path at all. But the footprints of the winter melted to fields of spring; One last embrace before I cross the threshold: To life we sing! O stay your soul and leave my hearts its song! O stay your hand; the journey may be long! And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when, and let your heart be staid. Omnia sol temerat, Absens in remota. Ama me fideliter, Fidem mean noto. Weave the dance and raise the; grieve no more... Through the strenghth of Orion, find refuge from the shore! Let courage be your oar; let passion be your sail; Wisdom and truth will guide your deep heart's yearning, through all travail! O stay your soul and leave my hearts its song! O stay your hand; the journey may be long! And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when, and let your heart be staid. Omnia sol temerat, Absens in remota. Ama me fideliter, Fidem mean noto. Omnia sol temperat, And when we part, and sorrow can't be sway'd... Remember when... Remember when... And let your heart be staid... Be staid.

I sang this song in 2009 or 2010 and still remember all the words, and can feel it in my soul. I will forever love this song. ❤️❤️
2008 here and I'm so happy to find a good recording of it
Thank you, Randall. Great music from the heart.
I'm singing this song in concert choir right now. I'm a first soprano and those high notes are so hard, but so worth it. I love it so much!
Doing this song for choir and love it so much
I'm doing it for my choir too this year.
I am singing this song in my choir concert on the 29 of may 2019
The first time I heard this song I almost cried

I don't want my senior friends to leave yet.
Bradley DySard me neither
This song is the last song the seniors sing as part of our chorale. Makes everyone cry every year. Shoutout to Dr Stroop for writing this piece.
