She is super beautiful - I mean look at her, she is almost 40 in the film and she plays a 20-year-old princess and is totally believable. And of course, a really good actress too. Love her!
Watching on YT does not give justice. Watched this on HD and large screen, the colors are vivid and looks very majestic, I feel like I was put back in time.
At the time represented, only people of substance, whether royalty of merely the wealthy, would require a legally sanctioned marriage, with proper clergy and a contract. the poor just lived in sin (common law wedlock) until some wandering friar came along and there was no contract since there was no real capital. Legal marriage has ALWAYS been about power and the disposal of property.
Actually that's historically accurate as clothes simplicity was by then a part of the Calvinists austere way of life. It was quite the same in the Nederlands
It was very common for Protestants to wear black and more simple clothing. This isn’t usually the case in England, but both the Quakers and the Puritans were famous for wearing black, simplistic clothing. Makes them look rather gloomy and cult-like.
does anybody know the author of the music in wedding scene (and name of the composition). this "gloria" part in the beginning is sooooooooo powerful it gives me chills.
Yeah, I think it's original soundtrack. Probably derived from the coda to the 'Deus in adjutorium' from Monteverdi's Vespers though. Similar anyway. watch?v=pYfbVpR6oT8
Eleven years too late, but neither Catherine nor her daughter Margaret seemed to hate Protestants. Both Henry and Catherine were more moderate regarding religion, and Catherine advocated for peace talks both before and after the massacre by Catholic militants. Henry later converted, because to him Paris was worth a mass.
Was she considered the most beautiful woman of her century at the time? She looks very plain for today's standards( I'm on about the real Margot however ) she was mad for her time she didn't give a shit. She had so many lovers she even hinted at an incestious relationship with her brothers and even attempted to murder her husband with first poison and then with a gun before taking over a city by force for some months. Apparently she had lovers killed, got her lovers to kill her other lovers and most likely personally killed someone. I think their should be a tv series about the De Valois and Henry de Bourbon it would be epic as all this fucked up shit actually happened!
Hi! To answer your question, yes, she was considered beautiful at her time. However, the rumours about her having a lot of lovers and incestuous relationships with her brother might have been lies invented by opposants of her family, made then widespread by a novel (I don't remember the author). Some other sources presented her as someone who took religion seriously and who loved her brother but not in a twisted way.
+AquariusPower yeah there was rumours however Marot did publicly accuse her brothers of incest. Her brother also admitted to it. Her memoirs are very scandalous she does document her many love affairs and secrets of her family and also hints at an incestuous relationship with her brothers. She did become 'religious' while imprisoned for 19 years but she seems to have forgotten about that when she was released. Her memoirs were never meant to be made public so when they were it really did shock the people. A lot of the things mentioned likely did happen but may have been exaggerated like u said. Margot was a madwoman and she let everyone know. Haha she truly was an interesting character!
Sorry for the late reply. But which brother made an incestuous relation with Margaret. I tried searching up about it, but it doesn't say much about it.
Choco Zoe According to the novel "La reine Margot" by Alexandre Dumas, her youngest brother Duke of Alencon had a great affection for Marguerite but there is no evidence or indication of incestuous relationship between her and her brothers!
@steerpike66 That goes without saying, it's the natural law. Why spend time, paper and ink if the two souls joining their bodies and exchanging their fluids have nothing on this earth that is of any value?
this is not margo!...: ) i love this producer.. actors...< 3so much isabelle is nice woman and actress but more modern style and not old french woman style places and colours is good in this film but real marguarite was different...absolutely. french people was differents.!!!
This movie is a masterpiece!!!
Each part, all of it is a fucking masterpiece

..
J'adore ce film 😊😊
RIP Virna Lisi
It's just a film, but Henry was not allowed in the cathedral for his ceremony as he was Huegenot.
+boxers7x5 exactly!
Did they use a dark Goat from Gascony in lieu of Henry?
was not allowed, or.. as huguenot didn't want to go into !!

A classic.

I was in quiet shock after meeting with JL Anglade when they show this sophisticated Masterpiece in Saint Petersburg, Russia back in 90!

To be honest it should be prohibited to watch on TV. Only in Theaters, especially in Chicago!

coobalt Goran bregovic - le mariage if you want the music !
@@clairepincemaille92 thank you very very very much :) ............
It’s obvious that Bregovic based it on Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610.. even the final cadence is Monteverdi’s 100% note for note.
It is movie soundtrack album with Golden voice of Israel Ofra Haza!
La boda fue en la puerta
MAGNIFIQUE !!!
MASTERPIECE. MIGUEL BOSE & ISABEL ADJANI..BEAUTIFUL
Still cant believe isabelle is 39 in this wow
It's so hard to believe that Catherine of Medicis was both such a great and an evil person 😮
Behold -- the true meaning and purpose of marriage!
I want this music in my wedding
Movie soundtrack is Godly by Bregovich!
The Duke of Anjou looks very vicious and predatory in this film

@christmeslightscraxy do u mean the song after the wedding? it's 'la mariage'
The reason is that Henry was a Protestant and she hated Protestants.
Oh, the hatred between catholics and protestants was very mutual. Henry didn’t exactly like her either (at first...).

@ivanbaloh Goran Bregovic - La Reine Margot - Le Matin, Le Mariage
What movie is that
La Reine Margot
@anaclet not Luluy but Jean baptiste Lully and he wasnt composer of Louis XII but Louis XIV, differen era of french history
It is a pretty that House of Valois extinct. If illegitimate son can success the throne just like House of Trastamara which will be prefect
Do you know if there are descendants of Valois?
@@larchitecte5287 Yes through two daughters of Catherine de Medici and Henry
@ivanbaloh Yes, it's called Alleluja, by Luluy, the composer of Louis XII of France
I read they were supposed to be both 19 - yes, years old!!!
Daniel Auteuil is however a very good choice for the character of Henri IV.
