I love when a program COULD put more jumps in, but it doesn't because the dedication to the choreography and interpretation outweighs the need to be flashy. Every step and movement in this had purpose and impeccable timing. Talk about slick. I could watch this all day.
Without any doubt, Stéphane Lambiel is a true master of this. He truly loves to perform choreos that fit the music rather than pack his programs with a bazillion jumps. I really love his choreographies, I'm super glad that now he's choreographing for other skaters too
I dare say if Stephane did a program entirely without jumps, no one would notice or even if they do no one would miss them. He is a true master of artistic skating
Sadly as it stands now, Figure skating became a jumping competition. It is as if "skating" itself doesn't carry much importance anymore. IMO a drastic change of direction is needed, especially when one looks at the number of injuries suffered during the last couple of seasons. I fear many young skaters might suffer the fate of Plushenko with shattered back, knee and hip, also at much earlier stage. My guess is something will happen after the 2018 Games. Too bad it is doubtful that anything will be done before that, and god knows how many skaters will get hurt by then.. :-(
I know next to nothing about skating, but this was pretty much exactly how I felt. I've watched a number of programs from winter olympics, and I have some skaters from Japan that I cheer for, but when I discovered this video a few weeks ago, it was like being struck by lightning. His musicality is amazing ;___; Like you said, I also loved that it wasn't so much about the jumps as about expressing the music. I've been watching this video almost every day since I found it xDD I'm definitely a fan now
I say this with the utmost respect; it's as if he was simply skating without a program. He looks so unabashedly free. This was simply blissful to watch. One of my favourite programs, to date.
Just what I thought! As if we were watching his own private dance, the one done after an intense training, where you have adrenaline but zero intention to constrain your body to technical movements and just wanna relax and let everything out before going home!
Oh god, everything about this routine was utter perfection. Costume? Absolute great choice. Aesthetic aside, the beauty of a costume that's not clinging to every crevice of the skater's body gets whipped around by the rush of the induced wind during a routine and that adds great flair what the audience is watching--plus, it added flair to the program itself, what with the music and vibe and all. Lambiel even went the extra mile and let his hair go all disheveled to add to his loose jacket and tie get-up. He fucking knew it would be perfect for his godly spinning skills. Body movements? Perfect lazy/sexy/yearning vibe. He practically matched it to this jazzy cover of "Don't Stop the Music." Even his fingers were dancing along as he expressively dances on the ice--and his facial expressions, oh god. Ambience? Jesus, the dimmed rink and spotlights and colored backlights sweetly set the stage for this hot-n-cold number. The lighting matters a lot in presentation. It's like I just watched this drunk playboy stumble beautifully onto the street out on a snowy night lit by streetlamps and earnestly dance-court his ladylove back or something. I don't know about you guys but this is one of the best expressive numbers on men's skating I've ever encountered and I will damn well recommend this video when I talk about Stephane Lambiel to others. It's just so obvious that he really enjoyed doing this routine and that's what I wanna see in skating.
@Araminthe Ipswitch, I like your sass! Good swearing there. Fully agree with yr comments.... but didn't it occur to you too that he is just channeling Robin Cousins? The still imperfect moonwalk on ice, the shoulder jiggle, the surgical musicality, the lazy ("throwaway") high jumps, and the perfectly centered full body slow spins on ice are all hallmark Cousins moves from his pro comp days!! ;)
And choreography itself + a few very difficult tricks (especially the elbow slide). Another thing that is so special about this program is how almost no move is just a move in it - all of them tell a story.

His performances were poems on ice. I would like to know what Stéphane is doing now. He never said he would be like a trainer but I guess it would be the best for all young talents. But I know he studied something else than sport. Biology or so.
I came from tumblr hearing he'll be playing himself on Yuri on Ice, but damn, this performance of his was really smooth and appealing to watch. Got my feeling some type of way.
He's 31 now and retired from competitive skating when he was 24 due to injuries and lack of motivation. His current age is considered ancient in figure skating. xD He still skates professionally and works as a coach and choreographer though. I'm going to see him live in a month, yay! lol
I love the snap/foot stomp in time with the beat at 0:50, so smooth. Also, 2:00 to 2:28 with the steps and hand movements matching the pitch and placement of the piano segment is genius! However, my favorite part will always be at 1:24, as it's such a freeing moment. The "I want to take you away," time with him spreading his arms wide in surrender is so memorizing to watch, and fits the optimistic note of the song perfectly. The suit flowing behind him also adds such a nice touch!
I don't know how many of these views are actually mine... but I regret nothing 😍 Gosh, Stéphane is so incredibly talanted. Really, ice's supposed to melt. So flawlessly perfect in every move, such a great musicality, and not only in this routine but in every single one he's ever performed. Never stop skating, Stéphane, you're the heart of this sport ❤🇨🇭
Glad he is taking in students....hope he passes on his artistic excellence to at least one of his students. The freedom of movement is just unmatched even in 2022.
Has anyone ever noticed the performance life span of a figure skater is much shorter than couples and ice dancers? It is because of the physical toll on figure skater's bodies through repetitive jumps. Stephane Lambiel's competitive career arguably ended at the tender age 21 in 2008 because of the wear and tear on his bones practicing quads. He came back to compete in the 2010 Olympics but was unable to complete the 3A and 4 because of previous injuries. He re-retired at age 23 right after the Olympics. I am so glad he's been set free to just perform without the elements that destroy bones.
This is my Roman Empire. I have watched this a truly humiliating amount of time. If you gave me and ice rink and this song I could walk you through this program from memory. I once spent 40 min just watching different performances of this skate. The person who screams when he runs his hand through his hair during the twizzles, you'll always be famous

This guy cannot only skate he can DANCE! Absolutely GREAT.
And sing and cook and choreograph and coach.
I came from tumblr hearing he'll be playing himself on Yuri on Ice, but damn, this performance of his was really smooth and appealing to watch. Got my feeling some type of way.
Incredible, he's def my fav skater even tho he retired :)
PrettyOddVices He looks young! Why did he retired?
He's 31 now and retired from competitive skating when he was 24 due to injuries and lack of motivation. His current age is considered ancient in figure skating. xD He still skates professionally and works as a coach and choreographer though. I'm going to see him live in a month, yay! lol
Triple Axel Did u see him ?
Theresa H I will this coming Saturday and Sunday at Art on Ice. (My favourite skater Daisuke Takahashi will be there too) I'm super excited!
Triple Axel HOW WAS IT ?!!?!?!
Amazing amazing artistry...no one like him anymore.
can't take my eyes off him, so mesmerizing. and all of his spins were really swift
He skates with passion.I adore him in addition of that he seems a lot to my son.
So talanted! A real magician on the ice! Never, never boring
2023? anyone?
2024 🙋🏻♀️
our big Master on Ice
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Eternal music. Never ending music.
God, save and protect us.
Never stop the music! Never take this video off either!
When I come back to watching again, it always uplifts me.
Thanks Stephane. You’re a legend.
This is my Roman Empire. I have watched this a truly humiliating amount of time. If you gave me and ice rink and this song I could walk you through this program from memory. I once spent 40 min just watching different performances of this skate. The person who screams when he runs his hand through his hair during the twizzles, you'll always be famous
same
he is so amazing and way too underrated!
the KING of spins!!!
Watching this a year later and his artistry and smooth movement are still absolutely stunning
He's too Good!!!! I don't know how many times I've watched this already!!!
Anyone in 2019...?? I always come every year to watch ths❤
Shit, I'm here about once a week at least. Sometimes multiple times a day. Anytime I need a little pick-me-up, really~
No. i am actually watching this in 2035
@@OrangeTabbyCat Neat. So like... does Detroit: Become Human actually happen or...?
I'm from 2020...
@@OrangeTabbyCat 😂😂😂😂😂
