    Few things!
Firstly its nice to be able to do some on camera videos! Hopefully going forward this will be the normal!
Secondly I need to experiment with my camera settings (zoom on the actual camera rather than during edit)
Thirdly I wish I'd realised that the flag pole was on show, just trying out different set pieces etc!
Thanks for your support, I hope you are all well, I'm trying a different way! (To those who thought I was AI... nope!)

My great-uncle Walter Reckermann went missing in Berlin and was never found again. He was flown into the Berlin Pocket on his 18th birthday. His plane was one of the last to land. His home in Dortmund had already been liberated by then. He was a naval student and had no modern weapons or combat training. He was last seen near the Reich Chancellery or the Ministry of Finance.

Hi Mark. Your videos have always been fascinating even with the repeated footage and dates in your recordings. My generation did not study World War II at school although we were told of the origins and the consequences. The battles themselves are often misrepresented on film and television in order to create revenue. Listening to your honest reconstruction of the perpetrators and the victims reminds me of the duty of historians to be objective and impartial of these terrible events that we still live with. The generational trauma for the Germans and their victims is tremendous and your simple recounting of the events and the consequences reminds me always that there are no winners in conflict. Yes ultimately the Allied Powers prevailed but the fall out was 50 odd years of occupation and further trauma for Eastern Europe. We in the West had to struggle but reconstruction was available through American support while the East suffered years of deprivation and totalitarianism. Orwell’s “1984” was drilled into us at school but in fact it was more ironic than that. The Cold War was a denial of either system being inferior. The fall of the Berlin Wall was a symbol of a new liberalism. Long may it continue. I shudder when I see the destruction of WWII. Lest We Forget. Thanks again. Keep up the good work and God bless you for telling these stories for another generation for whom otherwise would be ignorant of the rise of fascism in all its ugliness.

    Thanks for this.
If you visit Berlin, a visit to the Berliner Unterwelten is worthwhile. Air raid shelters adjacent to the U Bahn. They have a number of artefacts (weapons mainly) turned up when any work is done. Often remains are found. Germans tend to be identified if they have ID tags etc. Red Army tended to have paper ID which hasn’t survived.
Nearby is the Humboldt flak tower. I remember not being impressed particularly by the height, till our unterwelten guide told us that the mound surrounding it is rubble, making it seem half its height. Berlin was almost all flat ground until 1945. Any elevated ground is war damaged rubble.
Around Unten Den Linden, the Reichstag etc almost any pre 1945 building exhibits war damage.

Well, the Germans wanted 'Total War.'
When 'Total War' was being inflicted on others, they cheered.
But when total war came to them, oh how they complained and whined about how terrible total war was. Too late. You wanted total war - you got it.

Look at how they all run to the foot of the balcony with the salute.
That’s authoritarian put you in your place by force

All this happened just cause an art institution was too arrogant to accept a Austrian artist into their school.
His artwork of sceneries wasn't bad at all.

This is a lot better and far more professional than the time I felt that you were too intrusive in the video. You seem to have got this right, including the map as your background. The sound was good, too. I think it’s fine to allow viewers to see you narrate initially, but then return to the videos showing the subject matter being discussed with perhaps your voice continuing over the video shots. But I would take the big flag away as it’s a bit distracting - you could use smaller flags on your desk of all the allies perhaps, including the US, the old Canadian flag, Australia, etc.

I lived in Berlin in the early eighties as a US Soldier. We were an army of occupation. I received the US Army Occupation medal. I visited a few German cemeteries. We must remember the words: Do not mess with Abraham. In the Old Testament of the Bible ( aka the Hebrew Bible), it says that those who bless Abraham will be blessed, and those who curse Abraham will be cursed in that all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
