Thank you very much. Even after watching and reading about 2.4 I didn't see the usefulness of state and queries at least for me because I group most things. But I can now, mostly because of layering different pieces can hide things sometimes when grouped. For me the last two updates crashed a lot, .4 has only crashed once so far. I find that .4 shortcuts jump the tools as if you tapped them twice which I have to keep checking the panel to make sure the proper tool is selected.
Grouping is just as good, I agree. You can then easily turn off the visibility. I suppose it adds a little more flexibility so you can have things turn off such as images, all the text, find things that are locked or are symbols etc. I was slightly underwhelmed by the 2.4 release but will use the states / queries feature for some work. 2.4 has crashed a lot for me, does force me to remember to keep saving. Haven't noticed the other issue you mention though, not yet, probably notice it all the time now.

I've noticed since 2.3 AP crashes more frequently when using shortcuts especially when using multiple documents
I haven't noticed that but I certainly noticed the queries. I would have thought a lot of these would have been quickly captured during the beta
