It seems ramayan had a basic story of warrior prince saving a princess by killing a villian , this story in basic form was popular across India but details were not well known,so everyone kept adapting story according to tradition of their society. When Ram was made divine all theological reason was given to justify many action which did not looked morally correct to people then,which were in many cases a genuine intelligent action based on logic not theology. Even, after Ram Leaving Sita, people who were vellifying her started to empathize with her and at end not only her truth of character but her children also were accepted by society. May be we all have missed Genuis of Ram Sita,if Sita would have stayed, people would have vellified both her and their children and it is not hard to get what mental state would have been experiencing this on daily basis.
Shree Ram had a sister and her story; story of Seeta before Janak found her in the ground; Hanuman's mother was an Apsara before who was tormented by Ravan; 3 generations of pitru coming down to earth to accept pinda daan; .....
