To find out more about Derek, his savant abilities and his own incredible story, check out this TedX talk given by him and his mentor Adam Ockelford: • In the Key of Genius: ...
We thought you would all enjoy this clip of Derek and Lucy along with Lucy's teacher Daniel Bath improvising on the jazz standard 'A Foggy Day (In London Town)'! There is so much joy in their music making.
We would also like to mention the wonderful @theambertrust , which has done so much incredibly work to promote musical development and growth among blind children and young people, including those with additional needs. Stevie wonder moved almost identically. It's amazing how when someone loses one of their senses or is born without.. other senses are amplified. You can tell she is feeling something us ordinary people do not feel. These people are super human.. genius prodigy to say the least. Absolutely Amazing 🙏🏻❤️💯

I never thought about Stevie Wonder moving similarly. I wonder what is going on in her mind. I thought once she started playing the movements would slow down or stop. I once taught a high school student who had Turrets and played perfectly in the drum line. I asked if his turrets and ticks stopped when he played and he said-Yes.Interesting and amazing

@@grahamraymer807 Exactly.. they are actually feeling the music I think. These people have accessed a sense that we probably all possess.. the human brain is amazing. Maybe the movements have something to do with the timing.. kind of an "inner metronome". Absolutely Amazing to say the least. Most say "disability".. I say "Super Ability"💯🙏🏻

Something i find particularly incredible about her performance is her ability to locate the right keys despite thr swaying of her head. If i closed my eyes and swayed my head like that there's no way I'd be able to locate anything correctly. Id have to sit still and have my hands and arms by my side in the exact same position every time. It just simply amazes me how she is able to play so perfectly and so beautifully with that body movement. It brought a tear to my eye, so beautiful. I doubt we will ever understand the brain and all it's capabilities!

More I've learned and practiced, more I've understood that music IS a language, not in some superficial platitude level.. it's IS a language. People who might have harder time to communicate with means we've used to can have other means of communication they're absolutely amazing at and that are suited for them... e.g... music.
And Derek and Lucy show us that there are so many more ways to have conversations than we think. Places where they are most adept at and others can just be in awe of their vocabulary, structure and how they express themselves.
I can never reach this level, no matter how much I practice.

As a physically disabled musician myself, it is so encouraging to watch musicians with other disabilities overcome their challenges to be able to play. Lucy is a phenomenal musician and it was so interesting to see how her teacher taught her. When I was 5 I was so pleased that I could press down a key. My fingers are very weak so I can only use a few of my fingers when I play and my teacher really had to adapt the way she taught me but I’m glad she believed it would work. I would really encourage all music teachers if you are ever asked to teach someone with a disability, no matter what it is, don’t walk away but give it a go! You might be surprised! Looking forward to watching more of Lucy’s piano playing on TH-cam!

I remember back in the early days of Stevie Wonder, he moved his head like this as he played and sang. He was one of the greats! I don’t know this little lady’s story, but God has blessed her with amazing talent and people who realize what a gift she is!

      Stevie wonder isn’t really blind
These people who play like this- this is a form of possession. Beyoncé even spoke on this

    • @christianheichel
      @christianheichel ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@kblongespee9225 Look at his eyes. At best he sees shadows. Even that seems highly unlikely. All the suppositions that say he sees can be attributed to him having more developed abilities in using what senses he has left. His hearing, smell, and touch. Plus common sense and memory.
And that little girl is not possessed she is overjoyed with the music and doesn't need to read the music leaving her free to express her joy by moving her head. Probably similar to Stevie Wonder. As for Beyonce she has admitted to being intact with supposed demons in which case she needs God and medication for the spiritual and possible mental disorder if she's just imagining said demon. Some schizophrenics say they hear demons too.
