It’s amazing how much you can learn from watching these videos. I picked up a paint brush for the first time in 5 years and I was able to paint two of the best paintings I have ever made and I only used a putty knife and all the techniques I could remember him telling me. Truly a great man.

Thank you Bob for another peaceful & beautiful night watching your unbelievable expertise. Thank you for sharing your love & joy of painting with us for all these years. God bless & rest in peace.
I read somewhere once that Bob didn't like his Afro, but had to keep it for the marketing image. No idea if that true, but I could see how it could be.
@@goodbyemr.anderson5065 true - its featured in a short documentary you can probably find on here. His family and friends are interviewed so info is genuine. Believe or not, he was a drill sergeant in Alaska for a few years 😄
I was taking to a painter I knew back in the 80s that did one painting a month. He too used the odorless thinner and said the smell wasn't there, but the deadly fumes were still there. Although safe to do a painting once in a while, but Bob did them EVERYDAY in the 80's for the TV shows back then. Breathing the fumes constantly just to teach others. There is no doubt that is exactly what ended his life early. He gave it all for the people back in those days and not for himself. Breathing equipment would have saved him, but then he couldn't tell all the amazing stories while he was painting. That part helped a lot of people back in those days. Everyone lost a real treasure when Bob left this earth.
He is truly what humanity is all about in the truest sense of the word that examplified Thy Holy Scriptures in terms of a full prefected scale of compassion, humility, humor etc that is well missed on the Planet Earth Indeed for this wonderful show was a tapestry of psychological therupy from the animalistic vissitudes of anything opposite just from the fact that when tuning in to the "Joy of Painting" can blissfully temporarily escape most crap by presentation of creativity of art in order to boost one's Self-esteem, Self-respect and Self-worth plus teach how to tap into our creative side as a catalyst so sure need more archetypes like him out here definitely find solace with this "The Joy of Painting" show on public television so to his extension much admiration respect due for a exceptional inspiration of upliftment for our human sake!!!😢😢😢😢
There's always like three times in each episode where you'll think he ruined it, then like you said 3 minutes later and it's the best thing you've ever seen
My first grade teacher didn't believe I was a lefty and in class would make me write right handed. Until my mom found out and went nuclear on her one day. #LeftyLife
They did but he had a happy accident in the parking lot with his car and ran over the executives son. Bob supposedly didn't even say sorry he just said hey you might want to get somebody out there to clean up that kid I just drug all over the parking lot. Supposedly he also drank a lot on the set and tried to pick fights with people & their families. Bob was a savage.
Anyone ever notice that he never did any other trees but evergreens? 🌲 And the depth perception is a little off in this piece. The Spring colors are smacking into frigid winter without enough distance between. The dead trees land amidst lush greenery flooded with sunlight which also wouldn't make sense in nature. I'm loving those mountains though. Yay, Bob!
I think there was a happy accident in the colours going across the screen... the colour after titanium white is PRUSSIAN (not phthalo) blue on his palette, then black, then both browns and etc etc. Yet at the start when the colours are going across the screen, it says titanium white, THALO BLUE, PRUSSIAN BLUE. But, there is no phthalo blue (or thalo blue) on his palette. It was a happy little accident :).
Bob Ross making these masterpieces, yet a yellow canvas with a blue line across it sells for millions of dollars. Disgraceful, "modern art" today is. Bob Ross was truly a great.
There's no such thing as a whole bunch of masterpieces. A masterpiece is one exceptional and brilliant piece of work (the best of a bunch of works) by someone, be it a painting or piece of music or a novel, etc. If Bob Ross hadn't been a famous TV personality and his paintings were judged on their own merit they would most likely be in motel bedrooms because that is the "look" of them, that's the kind of art they were-- simple and easy landscapes. But his charming personality and soothing voice made him a household name in the 1990's thanks to PBS, and now he's a star on TH-cam, posthumously. I don't know if his initial aim on TV when he started out back in the 1980's was to teach every viewer to paint just like he did ... I hope not, because that would be silly, and everyone painting the same things in the same manner would mean that nobody would have a unique painting style of their very own. He has said in some episodes that we shouldn't copy, we should do our own thing ... very wise words.
20:39 "He's a strong little tree, and he's got a friend, right there. And, you know, if you have two trees there, there'll probably be a third one, sooner or later." - Bob Ross "Mountain Glory" 1986 (Season 7 | Episode 10)
Production screwed up: Bob always says they'll run the colors on his palate in order starting with titanium white. The first listed after that we pthalo blue. But it was Prussian blue--the pthalo was nowhere to be found.
+UnboxTheWorld Remember 'If you want to catch a rabbit, stand behind a tree and make a noise like a carrot.' And if you want to paint trees 'Just go out and talk to a tree. Make friends with it.' So if you want to paint mountains, make Bob sounds and/or go and talk to the mountains and make friends with them...
Because, as an artist, you're never supposed to be satisfied with your work. If you make a piece that satisfies you then you should just quit right there. Nowhere to go but down. However, if you're never satisfied you will always go up.
