It was for the best, Dennis flipped his lid after Pieces of Eight and wanted Styx to be a synth pop/disco band. Also the way DeYoung sings The Grand Illusion is just annoying, he doesn’t sing the intro continuously like it is on the album, instead he goes “Welcome to the Grand Illusion”, then the band plays for a few seconds, “Come on in and see what’s happening”, then the band plays for another couple of second, “Pay the price get your tickets for the show”. It’s quite aggravating.
