    Assuming you haven't really drove a manual, since you mention it's like a manual and that you were a bit nervous trying it. Kudos to you, nice to see North Americans also appreciate good eu cars from a better era not the plastic junk produced today :P
    Pretty much all of us Europeans learn to drive on a manual, and most of us do drive manuals all our lives, so I can confidently tell you its nothing like a manual. I got a SAAB 9-3 with a 6 speed auto Sentronic.
    While it is noticeably more fun and somewhat more control than the auto mode in D, it's definitely still an automatic.
    Bit more fun driving experience than auto but it doesn't really give you much more that you can already achieve in automatic with the proper gas pedal usage kickdown for down and light release at around 1850 rpms for up-shifts.
    The two things it does give you are:
    ONE - you can start off in 1st, 2nd or 3rd (hardly moves from a standstill in 3rd on my 2.8T) and you can quickly downshift for a a bit more engine braking (still nothing like engine braking you can achieve on a manual).
    TWO - lower RPMs at almost all speeds thus slightly better mileage. This is quite noticeable up to highway speeds 120kmh and over (~75 mph and up).
    At highway speeds driving in D in auto is also in 6th gear and its LOCKED so no difference AT ALL to being in M6. Cruising in the city at around 30-45 mph you see an instant rpm drop of about 10-15% if you put it in manual while maintaining same speed and load. My theory it that it locks up as soon as its in manual and all the clutches are engaged in the gearbox.
    Keep it up man, cool stuff!

    How does the Saab sound when you floor it and when your in a atop lights. how does it sound I really love the sound of your Saab my dads only got a muffler delete but we want a rumble sound when you step on it but not loud when its in the high way. Is it just resonator delete and the muffler (wich you can get in autozone)

      That's exactly what I wanted. No cruising drone but loud when engine braking and hard acceleration. What I did was, a resonator delete and a Thrush (Cherry Bomb) Turbo 2.5" muffler.
      I'm running a 2.5" pipe from the cat back. There'd a slight bit of hum on the highway but nothing annoying.

    How many l/100km were you getting before on normal automatic mode?

    • @kmercuryc
      @kmercuryc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For my regular commuting, I would average about 9.8 L/100 kms in full auto. And about 11.5 L/100 kms mixed City (70%) and hwy (30%).
      In sentronic mode it would be around 8.9 L/100 Kms hwy and 10.5 L/100 kms mixed.

      Thanks, looks like I’ll be using the paddles 😉
      Getting a Maptun remap stage 1 so I can run it on E85 ethanol which is 60% cheaper than regular unleaded here in France 0.80€ instead of 2.00€ per litre.

    Since I never saw the outside of the car, were you driving a Saab whatever? Sensonic sentronic? ScentTronic?
