Quick intro to the "best" build for Thresh. Not as flashy as AD, not as funny as AP, but if you want a consistent Thresh Top build for some strange reason, here is a start for now.

You should try and learn the basics tho. Im jg main too and i learned it cuz i wanted to try some diff roles but they come handy in jg too. If your laner dies or has to back you can set their wave up push them or freeze. Gives your ganks double value
Don't think Sett had the opportunity to freeze at 8:36-8:54 actually, since the big wave is already fully under turret and dies before the next one arrives, and your auto attack aggros his melee minions so two of yours go under turret, which will cause his wave to push to you even if he doesn't hit anything.

Could someone explain to me what "freezing the wave" means and why it's helpful?
Sure. A frozen wave is pushing in neither direction - two untouched waves of minions will naturally be frozen. By attacking minions, you create a difference in number between your wave and the enemy wave, which means your minions will push faster. Since minions provide you with defensive options in the form of targets to jump to, vision, a bit of extra damage early on, you usually want to be in/around your minions. If the minion waves are meeting closer to the enemy tower than your own, that means you're more vulnerable from the river - you have farther to move to safety, less vision, etc. Ideally you want to freeze the wave close to your own tower.
As for how to freeze the wave, you need to balance the number of minions on each side. You don't attack minions except to finish them off, because dealing more damage will break the balance. If the enemy wave is very slightly larger, you can let it "slow push" toward your tower before balancing it out again.
Champions like Tristana often have difficulty freezing a wave because they passively deal damage to nearby targets, dealing more damage to the enemy wave than the enemy wave is doing to your wave.

I just played thresh top in wild rift to diamond 2 but with duos, so if I kinda failed my lane, I can do something else on mid to late game. Atleast by then my use isnt on lane but on war

Personally i like to take grasp on thresh a lot. Are there drawbacks to this and what are the best times to take it, cause its been my baseline rune for a while now
My only problem with grasp is the whole 40% reduction on everything.
I'd suggest what Lethal Tempo or Fleet Footwork.
Lethal if you just want to hit more, like building on hit
Or fleet, for almost everything else. Sustain, movement speed, and it scales with your AP, so it still has amazing value late game.
Cryo said that he takes fleet footwork for more safe match ups so grasp is for the ones where you can take trades early on without getting stat checked into dirt

I decided to read ur guide on tresh top and go back to tresh top for my promos as my main was banned and went 2w and ranked up to g4 felt way to ez to play him with protean as the amount of cc the team gets is nice

the brushes are salt, the walls are salt, the floors are salt, all is salt. in league, salt is a way of life
League smells like body odor, tears, and the personification of misery. Also, a wave is NOT goint to freeze if it is pushed into tower as the tower is always going to kill more minions than minions alone will, in that case and entire wave's worth, so the push will be a hard one. A pushed in wave (assuming it is fully pushed in) WILL bounce. PERIOD. It is a common mistake lower elo players make. The Sett did it a LOT. If he played properly, he COULD have just froze the wave and left Cryo pushed up all laning phase as Thresh's pushing is terrible and he cannot break a freeze.
The wave WILL push back to you if you are patient and just last hit, the speed of the push being dictated by if you do more than just last hit (hitting the enemy champ causes the wave to push faster, obviously killing more than just last hit minions pushes faster, etc.), but most players aren't patient, try to shove, stay pushed up, get ganked, and die. And then because it is league, type a racial slur to the jungler as if it is their fault for their poor management of waves. Ahhh league. The game where everyone just plays to never improve and just blame others.
