The difference between Blair and Serena being bad people is that Blair is actually shown like a mean girl when she does evil stuff but when Serena does them, she is portrayed as the victim. When Blair does something terrible, that action is considered despicable by the other characters too and she even suffers the consequences. With Serena, it's like the writers try to defend her and justify her terrible actions and everyone forgives her immediately.
The best relationship in the show isn't a romantic one. It is the mother-daughter-friends connection between Blair and Dorota. Yes they have bad moments, but still the sweetest bond is what they have. Dorota was more like her mom (like Paris and her Nanny in Gilmore Girls) than her actual mom. Eleanor became better when she got together with Cyrus, he made her a better person, without him she is the worst mom in the show.
While I did really enjoy nate and jenny's chemistry, having read that the reason it didn't go anywhere is because nate's actor wasn't comfortable doing romantic scenes with an actress who wasn't over 18... yeah I can't be too sad about the fact it didn't take off.
I am a Dan and Blair defender till I DIE. If the writers hadn't appealed to fan service/were so focused on keeping the ratings high, they would've realized that Dan and Serena were good as high school sweethearts but eventually went through completely different paths. Nah, they had no chemistry and were so random with no build up or tension for a romantic relationship. It felt so out of character and unnecessary for Blair but their friendship was good. Even Gorgina said Dan just manipulated her whilst Blair was vulnerable and seeking a friend. It made no sense in me yes and I get why the writers probably - not just bc of the fans - only used them for 5 eps and as a filler. I feel like some ppl give it more credits than it deserves and overrate it.

Yes. I am always at a clash with chuck and blair shippers. But I will always chose Dair. I felt they were healthy, not too problematic, and their chemistry is off the charts. It is always hard not supporting (unless it is chair) a couple who always want to jump each other’s bones. The thing with chair was lust. Dair’s chemistry came from a previous connection and foundation.

@laurendaisy The only reason that Dan and Blair’s romantic relationship didn’t work was because the second the writers got them together, they started creating problems and Trying to drive them apart (for example, the writers could have easily written “Dan and Blair have the best sex of their lives” instead of “Dan and Blair have bad sex”). They were destined to fail and never stood a chance. Had the writers actually wanted to make them endgame, they could of been the ship to end all ships. But they wanted a Dan/Serena and Chuck/Blair endgame, and the better they wrote Dan and Blair’s romantic relationship, the harder it would be to justify them ending up in their original ships.
Imma be honest, I don't see the potential some of u see for me they were just thrown in there for the LOL of it bc they had left over eps and it didn't fit Blair's character. She wanted power, fame, status, publicity, loved the world she was living in. Nothing that Dan was, her settling for him wouldn't have made any sense.

Stephenie Savage stated herself that she regretted that they didn’t push on the potential that is Dair earlier and since season 6 was cut out into half a season, they had to write out to close the series instead.
How I kinda wish it went: Serena goes to college and starts to understand how to be more independent and not feel like she needs to rely on a man. Serena goes in the direction of making her own success and prove everyone else wrong including Dan who consistently insulted her for “having it easy”. Dan goes out to write a book about Gossip Girl and his experience in a more prestige high school. Lily and Rofus end up together. This would have been good because they had this consistent unspoken pole that always brings them back together. It would have been nice to see them together and able to see past the superficial boundaries that were holding them back. I think Chuck and Blair should be together still but as they become adults, they could have showed challenges that pop up when schemes and illegal activities start to come back up. Chuck in particular starting to face consequences for his SAs, his link to prostitution, and drug use. Venessa I high key don’t care about. Idk maybe her and Dan together. I would have liked to see Nate also become successful on his own and show that now his dad is in prison take over the man of the house role in his own way. He could be a good contrast to Chuck to show you can be successful while still having some morals. Jenny becoming more involved in her fashion and Rufus deciding that Jenny is going to go for her goals regardless but finding compromises and ways to help her so she doesn’t act out and make mistakes like she did with Agnus. Eric I don’t care too much about but he could have seen his sister grow into an adult via college and learn from her empathy and bravery she had to stand up for him and he then grows with that. He could have also after Agnus be a more supporting character to Jenny and become her partner and it can show their friendship grow as they work together. I think Gossip Girl shouldn’t have been revealed to the overall cast but at the very end of the finale, it shows Dorata typing on a laptop the gossip girl blog. Dorata would be a good choice because she wasn’t directly involved but heard and saw everything within the friend group. She could have also had the motive to show Blair and her friends consequences to their actions and what they say and do since Dorata was somewhat a parental figure to Blair.

Leighton is an incredibly underrated actress. If you haven’t seen her in Country Strong it’s worth a watch, her performance there is amazing too. Also love her song Heartstrings!
My only issue with Nate and Jenny was their age difference and I feel he was more mature than her. But I feel as they explore what they wanted to do with their lives first and than come back together. I can picture a storyline where they fall in love and get married and be a healthy power couple.

When I was a teenager watching the show during its original run I LOVED Serena. I thought she was so cool and exactly the type of girl I would want to be friends with, and I had so much sympathy for her during all her struggles. Blair however I didn't always care for because her mean streak was just to much, like that girl is the devil sometimes, but her relationship with Chuck humanized her over time because you see her being more vulnerable. As an adult watching Serena is a lot more more frusturating to me, but Blake Lively really does give her so much charm. I do think Leighton is amazing as well and in my rewatches I have grown more of an appreciation for Blair, but sorry I would still say I like Serena more.

I've gotten far enough in the video to see the opinion where Chuck and Blair deserve each other cause they're so horrible and I have to agree! Unfortunately their horrible personalities are about all they have in common but that's all they need to have that fiery dramatic romance. Dan and Blair were better than Dan and Serena and Chuck and Blair in some aspects. Dan kind of viewed Serena as the ethereal perfect girl who can do no wrong (until she inevitably messed up) and it translated into their relationship with him constantly worshipping her and putting her on a pedestal. It took a little too long to realize she was just as messy and human as the rest of them and the relationship suffered for it. He was like Rufus in the sense that dating a rich upper east sider was fun until the upper east sider did some upper east side nonsense, then the judgment and bitterness (and slight emasculation?) put a rift between them. With Blair, there was no pedestal, no "can-do-no-wrong" mentality, cause they both hated each other until they both empathized with their romantic struggles. Once they actually started hanging out and getting to know each other, their relationship seemed a lot more organic and genuine since Blair felt she could be more herself with someone who literally couldn't afford to judge, and Dan was with someone who actually genuinely shared some of his interests. They had to actively work to bond with each other instead of overrelying on hopes of romance and powerplay mind games, and it seemed so much better than the toxicity of Chuck or the flightiness of Serena.
I feel the same way about chuck and blair. They just have such an insane chemistry that cannot be matched. Every scene with them is just electrifying and they just LOOK so perfect together. They are the reason I fell in love with gossip girl. There is just something there it is hard to put into words. I wonder what it is that gives actors such chemistry like that.
I totally agree with you about Jenny and Rufus. In the episode when this absurd storyline is on with William VdW and it turns out that he faked Lily's illness and blackmailed the neighbor into lying that Rufus was having an affair, Rufus immediately forgives Lily and when Jenny rightly protests, Rufus says "you're the one whos gotta go back to normal" as if that wasn't the most absurd family situation you could have experienced^^ jenny didn't even have a room at the time (Serena threw out her stuff). why are people mad at jenny :D i don't get it

As I enter my 30’s, I realize Chuck and Blair’s scenes in season 3-6 was just cringey. The season 1 & 2 were cute high school timeline but good lord, they should have just grow up from the soap opera-ish i love you’s and ultimatums. I love you but I can’t be with you… seriously once is enough.
The final scene of the series should have been a first person view of someone at a coffee shop typing the last Gossip Girl post. After hitting post, they close the laptop and get up to go. It's Kristen Bell. We never find out who she is in-universe.

As the fat girl with low self esteem growing up, I have to say I was so insanely disappointed when they made Vanessa thin and hot on the show. I read the books and she was the one character I could identify with.
Finally someone who understands me! I loved the friendship between Dan and Blair, their S4 dynamics and their jokes were great, but romantically they didn’t work. It was just too weird and they didn’t have chemistry. Honestly I can’t even imagine them as endgames, they were much better as friends.

Carter and Blair: he was more like her parachute, before the big fall, and they hooked up for like a week, but this was the healthiest relationship that Blair ever had. If you mix Chuck and Nate you got Carter. The perfect balance. He has everything, every quality, which make him perfect for her. Also: Jack and Georgina as a couple the best idea, they should introduce them Way before.
Dan and Blair is cute together… if we’re watching a different sitcom show. Like the chemistry and banter is so cute, especially when they were interning together. But in Gossip Girl, with Serena and Chuck around, it doesn’t make sense.

Unpopular Opinion: on a rewatch of the show I have a new love for Season 4. I started watching around Season 2 when I discovered Jenny ❤❤❤❤o Jenny!!!!!. I'm a black dude and Jenny was the reason I started wearing rock tees and skinny jeans to church on Bible study nights lol. Her rock glam grunge look influenced my style then and now. It was so edgy. Clothes don't change a person but it's how you feel in the clothes it helps build confidence and self esteem. Jenny is my favorite character overall then Chuck and Georgia I like all the villains
I agree with most of these statements BUT, I feel like Jenny got exactly what she deserved. Being a teenager and having things happen to you doesn't make what she did right. Dan kind of viewed Serena as the ethereal perfect girl who can do no wrong (until she inevitably messed up) and it translated into their relationship with him constantly worshipping her and putting her on a pedestal. It took a little too long to realize she was just as messy and human as the rest of them and the relationship suffered for it. He was like Rufus in the sense that dating a rich upper east sider was fun until the upper east sider did some upper east side nonsense, then the judgment and bitterness (and slight emasculation?) put a rift between them.
With Blair, there was no pedestal, no "can-do-no-wrong" mentality, cause they both hated each other until they both empathized with their romantic struggles. Once they actually started hanging out and getting to know each other, their relationship seemed a lot more organic and genuine since Blair felt she could be more herself with someone who literally couldn't afford to judge, and Dan was with someone who actually genuinely shared some of his interests. They had to actively work to bond with each other instead of overrelying on hopes of romance and powerplay mind games, and it seemed so much better than the toxicity of Chuck or the flightiness of Serena.
I feel the same way about chuck and blair. They just have such an insane chemistry that cannot be matched. Every scene with them is just electrifying and they just LOOK so perfect together. They are the reason I fell in love with gossip girl. There is just something there it is hard to put into words. I wonder what it is that gives actors such chemistry like that.
I totally agree with you about Jenny and Rufus. In the episode when this absurd storyline is on with William VdW and it turns out that he faked Lily's illness and blackmailed the neighbor into lying that Rufus was having an affair, Rufus immediately forgives Lily and when Jenny rightly protests, Rufus says "you're the one whos gotta go back to normal" as if that wasn't the most absurd family situation you could have experienced^^ jenny didn't even have a room at the time (Serena threw out her stuff). why are people mad at jenny :D i don't get it

As I enter my 30’s, I realize Chuck and Blair’s scenes in season 3-6 was just cringey. The season 1 & 2 were cute high school timeline but good lord, they should have just grow up from the soap opera-ish i love you’s and ultimatums. I love you but I can’t be with you… seriously once is enough.
The final scene of the series should have been a first person view of someone at a coffee shop typing the last Gossip Girl post. After hitting post, they close the laptop and get up to go. It's Kristen Bell. We never find out who she is in-universe.

As the fat girl with low self esteem growing up, I have to say I was so insanely disappointed when they made Vanessa thin and hot on the show. I read the books and she was the one character I could identify with.
I hated the Jenny and Nate storyline, she was too young and it just felt yuck to me

Finally someone who understands me! I loved the friendship between Dan and Blair, their S4 dynamics and their jokes were great, but romantically they didn’t work. It was just too weird and they didn’t have chemistry. Honestly I can’t even imagine them as endgames, they were much better as friends.

Carter and Blair: he was more like her parachute, before the big fall, and they hooked up for like a week, but this was the healthiest relationship that Blair ever had. (all the others are toxic) They could be much better. I would love to see her with him instead of Louis in Paris, would be a better storyline.
Carter is the perfect match for her. If you mix Chuck and Nate you got Carter. The perfect balance. He has everything, every quality, which make him perfect for her.
Also: Jack and Georgina as a couple the best idea, they should introduce them Way before.
Dan and Blair is cute together… if we’re watching a different sitcom show. Like the chemistry and banter is so cute, especially when they were interning together. But in Gossip Girl, with Serena and Chuck around, it doesn’t make sense.

Unpopular Opinion: on a rewatch of the show I have a new love for Season 4. I started watching around Season 2 when I discovered Jenny ❤❤❤❤o Jenny!!!!!. I'm a black dude and Jenny was the reason I started wearing rock tees and skinny jeans to church on Bible study nights lol. Her rock glam grunge look influenced my style then and now. It was so edgy. Clothes don't change a person but it's how you feel in the clothes it helps build confidence and self esteem. Jenny is my favorite character overall then Chuck and Georgia I like all the villains

I agree with most of these statements BUT, I feel like Jenny got exactly what she deserved. Being a teenager and having things happen to you doesn't make what she did right. I don't hate her but I also don't feel bad for her, she made horrible choices as almost anyone else in the cast but when she got consequences she wouldn't stop whining.
