„When you come to the Caribbean, you only see a lovely, lovely side of Caribbean, where people come to relax. The beaches, the wonderful sunshine, fresh air, and the laid back attitude of the people. But you don't see the other side, the destitute, the poor, those in hovels, those who are rejected by society. That part you don't see." Archbishop Donald James Reece, Kingston, Jamaica
By all accounts a paradise on earth, nonetheless Jamaica has a more sinister side. Kingston, Jamaica's capital is regarded as one the world's most dangerous cities. In a country of a mere two million seven hundred thousand inhabitants, over fifteen hundred die each year, victims of narcotic gang warfare. Working in Jamaica, the Missionaries of the Poor endeavour to stand up against this appalling reality. The history of the Missionaries of the Poor began in 1981. At that time a Jesuit Father, Richard Ho Lung, stunned by the great poverty and a lack of respect for human life, went after the call of his heart and decided to dedicate his life to helping Jamaica's poorest inhabitants. This is their story.
I admire these comunity and fr. Richard. From Brazil.
very Nice and congretulations of community
A wine will never become good unless it is
stored in the dreg, and neither can the good and righteous
remain and improve in virtues if
they are not tested through afflictions and
persecutions by the unrighteous.
So tolerate willingly the enemies of my Son, and remember that
He is their judge, and that he, if justice demanded
to destroy them all, could easily exterminate them in a moment.
Therefore, may you tolerate them as long as he tolerates them.”
