I upgraded from the V1 for the video eye focus. If you are shooting stills the V1 is outstanding but 40% slower eye focus. The new 85mm GM VII is a eye focus beast. It nails a moving walk and talk head shot without issue. The breathing is there but with some motion of the camera it is well hidden. The biggest reason in my opinion to go with the native lens is Catalyst browse. It used metadata from clips to stabilize your footage. There is a slight crop but it will really help to stabilize your image if needed. Great video.
Sweet review! Especially since you compare this little beauty to the Sigma 85/1.4 (along with the Sony 85/1.4 Mark I) and not some irrelevant or incomparable lens that nobody's interested in. Geil!
I have the excellent Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T* Lens, so I did not need the new Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II Lens, but when I found out how sharp the new Sony 85mm are, then I bought it, because I take a lot of different kind of photography genres, some genres need the very best sharpness and the new Sony delivers. I am also very happy for the aperture ring and the AF/MF switch which the Zeiss 85mm do not have. I can highly recommend the new Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II Lens !

ALWAYS use a Lens Hood for your Lens !!!
No 😂🤷🏽♂️ I never do and will never do, I prefer to use clear filters since I like to have my lens protected.
