This was my dad's favorite song, he absolutely loved rocking out to the guitar solo! Today is his birthday he would've been 58. He passed away in 2021 so its a very emotional song for my family. He's our free bird now flying high above us. We hear this song from a very different perspective now that he's gone but this will forever be the best song ever written.
My dads favorite song id this song , I remember riding in the back seat listening to this song in my car seat going to to the beach blasting this singing , I know this song will be mine and his song. God forbid my dad leave this earth any time soon , I share that same hurt for this song knowing it will bring me a little bit of sadness / relief one day and I hope it brings relief to you when you remember your sweet soul of a father ❤️

I just lost my grandfather on Monday to Cancer. He loved this song and always enjoyed sitting with his Whiskey and coke and a joint on his deck over looking the river while this was blasting from his stereo. My best memories are sitting there with him and enjoying the peace that not only the river brought me, but his company. He would tell me stories from back in his younger days and all the things he would do. What I would do for one last conversation with him while sitting on that deck.

'72 or '73, I had traveled to Jacksonville (N.C.) to meet up with a high school chum, his girlfriend and a GF of hers to travel to Fayetteville to see the Doobie Brothers ( Captain and Me tour )...great concert, great fun and a great girl...next day I'm returning home, and radio station jumps into a song that I've never heard...a minute in and I had to get out of traffic, turned into a subdivision and circled for about 7 or 8 minutes in awe...DJ then touted a new song by a new group...went out and bought " Pronounced " the next day.
This is the short version. Get this - back in the 70s they played songs with instruments, right? The band even played the instruments. I was blown away, too, I always wondered how they played music without a “play” button.

It’s 2023, I’m 32, make music, and this is the first time I’ve ever dissected this song in its entirety. This is a masterpiece; Unbelievably hard to comprehend how it was done; thinking of the instruments is baffling. These are masters of the art & they deserve what they have earned
I´m the a hundred like now you heared the most epic solo from this group
Lmao I'm also (about to be) 32 and also starting to dissect this song. Amazing how it from G major to minor and then major at the last part. Let's see what else Lynyrd Skynyrd has to surprise me
It was done a bunch of young dudes taking speed in the hell house and perfecting their most epic song over a long period of time to experiment with what was the most intense thing they could come up with. And they nailed it ......
Found a demo of Free Bird minus the guitar solos of Collins and King, looped it and had 20 straight minutes of exhausting but good solo practice...
Drugs is a hell of a thing XD
Its so heartbreaking to know that everyone in this album cover has passed on...real freebirds. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd....✊️

I’m going through a rough patch as well. 21 no job no home , no one accepts felons . Been on my own since 18 I’ve thought long and hard about suicide . And all I get from it is peace. I’m trying hard to keep it together but depression has been an old friend for years I just can’t seem to get a grip on life . Dear lord forgive me but my soul has given up.
This song will never die. We won't let it. As we age and fall, our descendants will carry it.
Sooo true. I was a little shocked to find out my niece and daughter love it too and they're only 23. Definitely a song so special that you grow up hearing and love it so much you pass it down to the next generation. Definitely timeless ❤
@@tamarie2570 my nephew used to give me grief for liking music that was older then I was. I played Free Bird and watched him pipe down and actually listen. The solo hit and I watched him actually smile and turn the radio up.
When it was over he actually asked if there was any other good old music. He understands now. Black Sabbath is still one of his favorites to this day, but he usually comes back to Free Bird at least once a week.
@@Xbox_HonorGuard_Ra that's the best music. I grew up w my parents listening to Bob seger, pink Floyd, Alice Cooper as well as the Beatles, chuck berry, Motown. I definitely got my love of good music from them. And I'm so happy to see my kids add those to thyr own playlists now. Today's music is trash.
@tamarie2570 agreed. 98% of the great music I've heard is older than me. ACDC, Metallica, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Dragon Force... Iron Maiden started my Old School Metal Journey with Aces High, then I found Tail Gunner.
An old dude I knew as a little kid pointed me at Kickstart My Heart. He's long gone, but that song will never leave my favorites Playlist.
I'm 21 and I'll play this for my kids kids

46 years have past since we lost one of the greatest bands in the world, in the south. Rest in peace, and God speed lynyrd skynyrd 🫡🇺🇲
It’s crazy that it’s been that long
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Sorry I’m Ukrainian and I don’t know full story. Can u tell what happened with this band?
@kostyagusto5109 they died in a plane crash in 1977
@@kostyagusto5109A plane that was carrying the band crashed, it happened in 1977.
6 people died, 3 of the victims were in the band
Just lost someone close to me with SUD disorder. She played this song to me one day. Now it all makes sense. I couldn’t change her even if i wanted to. RIP Kimberly Jones.
I think that the best thing about this song, OBVIOUSLY BESIDES THE INCREDIBLE SOLO, is the fact that you pretty much don't notice the amazing progression it has, you just listen to it and enjoy it and when you realize you have passed from some ballad kind thing to a surprising guitar solo that goes hard as hell i think you get pretty amazed.
That's exactly why I love this song. Some people here are for the lyrics too but personally I'm here only for the solo coz it hits soo hard
I love this song
My grandpa was part of the who😊

This was my dad's favourite song! I never payed attention to the lyrics when I was younger. He taught me how to play it on guitar and said I was a natural. He passed away nearly 3 years ago and had this as his funeral song. The lyrics are so meaningful. I miss you dad!
İm sad for you :(
May he rest in peace. He sounds like a W dad ngl.
@@ollie_boi9572 he was the best ♡
@@grace.nicholson now I wanna cry man. I really am sorry for your loss. I'm glad that he practically passed on his favorite song to you, though. It was very sweet of him. Once again, very sorry for your loss.
It was my dad's favorite too, he even had a tattoo on his arm. Anyway he died at 60 and wanted this played at his burial, as the service had 22 gun salute so we decided to do it like that. My 80 year old grandpa was a little confused what was going on as it was 20 years ago and had to play a cassette tape. He asked my uncle what was going on. My uncle said "Butch" his childhood nickname, wanted this long song played. Lol
Fantastic! So wierd the way many died in aeroplane crash and one sleeve had them standing infront of plane!! Love, Polly
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on now
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you cannot change.
And this bird you cannot change.
And this bird you cannot change.
Lord knows I can't change.
Bye, bye, baby, it's been a sweet love, yeah,
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it so badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And the bird you cannot change.
And this bird you cannot change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord, help me, I can't change.
Lord, I can't change.
Won't you fly high, free bird, yeah?
First heard this song in 1975 at the tender age of 15 ..I'm 64 now and the axe'man in me STILL plays it at 100% volume..grew up on Skynyrd and the Doobies..."Real rock music"

I lost my mum to suicide 3 years ago and this was our favourite song to listen to together. That guitar solo makes me cry thinking about her everytime
Keep that head up brother, it's a beautiful song!
My mom was suicidal and suffered greatly with mental illness.
She passed over 10 years ago and every time I hear this song I still cry.
I pray both our mamas are free *hugs*

The older I get, the more I appreciate this song.
it actually takes on about 5 different meanings through life at each stage. its an amazing song.

Played the full 9+ mins at my daddys funeral back in 2009. Grandma (rest her soul) wasnt too happy but it did my daddy justice playing the whole thing. Rest easy daddy, see you soon ❤
Played at my grandpa’s funeral, it was his favorite song. Listen to this occasionally in honor of him
