Lay Zhang is very big on broadening his ‘arsenal’. He loves to learn new type of dances and different style music that’s why each song you hear from him is different. On a dance show he asked a contestant to teach him a silk dance and see if it could be merged with his type of dance. He loves to grow! The story in the "Lit" MV, Lay said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.) Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are unforgiving conditions. Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. This music was filmed in China biggest film studio and the video cost 1.4 million dollars to make and took 6 months i belive and the crazy part it that it came from his own pocket, in other words dude is rich af. His latest album which came out the first sold 1.5 million copies in 7 minutes, and before Baekhyun (another exo member) released his solo album last year Lay was the artist with the best selling album in Korea and the crazy part being that it was in Chinese. Lay also produce and write most of his songs. He is also EXO's best dancer along side Kai (it comes down to prefrence), Lay also is an amazing vocalist and a great rapper, as well as a good actor.

Lay has debuted since about 2011-2012. He used to be one of the two lead dancers in the originally 12 boy-group Exo. Thereafter due to reasons, three of the Chinese members left leaving him as the last Chinese member of the group. However, he then could not participate in the activities with Exo due to political reasons between the Korean and Chinese government which was such a pity he had to stay away but he has not officially left the group yet. Lay has hoped to return to the group but it is unclear when he can do so. Meanwhile he developed his solo career and gained more recognition since the release of his first album in 2017. Following, Lay became more passionate in music and being talented and composing and producing, Lay went on the release more albums. At the same time, Lay also started acting but he still utilised most of his time making music. He is very talented in this area and his dancing also became very good making him one of the most sought after all-rounder artist in China. He is also known for trying to promote Mando-pop to the world which he has been quite successful, so he most of his songs are in both English and Chinese languages.

Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (in Peking opera costume) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon is the spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch help pass along the spirit. Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. this is the first time i see people reacting to lay first before exo, thank you for noticing him! He is in the kpop group called EXO, they were around since 8 April 2012, he's the only chinese member left in the group (3 of the other chinese member left, sadly) Lay is, im not kidding nor exaggerating, the biggest celebrity in China. His group, EXO, is one of the top kpop group (literally). But he went on hiatus since 2018 because of the tension between china and korea (since then, hes been working on his solo career) hes an all rounder, but his position in EXO would be the main dancer, he sings and raps too! He does everything, you name it. I would recommend you to hear his song called honey, namanana, goodbye christmas(theres english version too), sheep! Since everyone else explained that he is in EXO already, I’ll just talk more about him since he is my ultimate bias. Fun fact: he spent 1.5 million USD on this music video. Yixing is one of the largest celebrities in China and is the ambassador of CYLC’s Hunan committee. He is highly respected as a musician and entertainer in China. His political involvement is also why he cannot promote with EXO since political differences with China and South Korea. He has been promoting as a soloist since 2017 but is still a part of EXO. He was a child star and established himself in acting before being cast into SM entertainment. He debuted in EXO in 2012 in the sub-unit EXO-M as a main dancer and sub-vocalist. He is more of a singer than rapper but he enjoys and is great at both. He is now the last remaining Chinese member in the group. He is fluent in Chinese, Korean and English. You should check out his solo songs. My favorites are Honey, Gluttony, BOOM and Monodrama

I find it interesting that Western reactors literally only have one living western artist to compare Asian artists to : Chris Brown. Lol. There are thousands of Kpop and Cpop, Jpop, etc artists who can easily out sing, out dance, out rap, out perform Chris Brown. And btw, Chris and Lay are close in age. 31 and 29. So Lay be having the same dance and rap influences that Chris had. Although the reactors didn’t actually say Lay must have been influenced by Chris -they insinuated it. Like most Western reactors that have no clue of the extraordinary talent coming out of Asia. I’m not @ these reactors but I want to clear it up. Asian artist are their own creations. No current Western artist is any different from an Asian artist. As kids, They listen to and watched all the pop/rap greats and got their influences the same way.

In fact, Kpop is an amalgamation of visuals, video, vocals, rap, dance, theories, fashion, sns, etc etc. Korea is a leader in video production, sound engineering, film, internet technology, fashion etc. the west is far behind in these elements. He's actually the only Chinese member of a South Korean Boygroup named EXO, his positions there are main dancer and lead vocalist. He's actually more of a singer than a rapper, he just knows how to play with his voice, but to tell you the truth, he's mainly known as one of the greatest dancers in today's generation of idols. Try watching or listening to his song Goodbye Christmas, you'll be shocked of how far his voice here in Lit is to his voice in Goodbye Christmas. He's also already a CEO of an entertainment group of companies, he revealed it just this month on his birthday, October 7. He also made a debut in US so he has English songs, try watching his EP entitled Honey.

Lay Zhang is very big on broadening his ‘arsenal’. He loves to learn new type of dances and different style music that’s why each song you hear from him is different. On a dance show he asked a contestant to teach him a silk dance and see if it could be merged with his type of dance. He loves to grow! He said he wanted to bring Chinese culture into his music which is why you heard the influence of his culture in this song. He’s also a youth ambassador in China which is why he can’t promote with Exo. Recently he also just made his idol trainee agency called Chromosome Entertainment. The story in the "Lit" MV, Lay said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.)
Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are unforgiving conditions.
Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful then you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc.
The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down.
Lay (Zhang Yixing) is the Chinese member of the super famous Kpop boy group EXO. He is one of the main dancers and a lead singer of the group. EXO debuted in 2012, so he has been around for more than 8 years -- you are just late to the game. :D. And, as you can see, he is also a very famous solo artist and dancer in China and internationally. He has been given the title as China's national producer and youth ambassador by the Chinese government.

As you have discovered, Lay is is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. And "Lit" is a prime example of that.
If you study the credits, you see that this MV was produced by Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay -- he owns the studio. So, the credits show, Lay has his hand in almost every aspect of this production. It's his name you will see dozens of times in the credits. He is the one that wrote and composed the song, he even produced the beat himself. He is his own beat-maker. He is also executive producer, he came up with the storyline, he helped choreograph and he helped direct the MV, etc. But that's normal for Lay's solo work With Lay, when you ask who did it? -- for any part of the song, MV or choreography -- you are pretty much guaranteed that the answer is: Lay. He does it all. He is such a perfectionist that there is almost nothing that he is involved in that he doesn't have 100% control of himself. He prides himself in the fact that all aspects of his music are created by him.
This MV took more than 6 months to make and more than $1.2 million to produce. And it was all done by Lay. They actually filmed at one of the largest and most well known film studios in China. What you saw was the real temple. No Screenshots. The dragon was CGI, but the rest of the set is all real.

This music was filmed in China biggest film studio and the video cost 1.4 million dollars to make and took 6 months i belive and the crazy part it that it came from his own pocket, in other words dude is rich af. His latest album which came out the first sold 1.5 million copies in 7 minutes, and before Baekhyun (another exo member) released his solo album last year Lay was the artist with the best selling album in Korea and the crazy part being that it was in Chinese. Lay also produce and write most of his songs. He is also EXO's best dancer along side Kai (it comes down to prefrence), Lay also is an amazing vocalist and a great rapper, as well as a good actor.

Lay has debuted since about 2011-2012. He used to be one of the two lead dancers in the originally 12 boy-group Exo. Thereafter due to reasons, three of the Chinese members left leaving him as the last Chinese member of the group. However, he then could not participate in the activities with Exo due to political reasons between the Korean and Chinese government which was such a pity he had to stay away but he has not officially left the group yet. Lay has hoped to return to the group but it is unclear when he can do so. Meanwhile he developed his solo career and gained more recognition since the release of his first album in 2017. Following, Lay became more passionate in music and being talented and composing and producing, Lay went on the release more albums. At the same time, Lay also started acting but he still utilised most of his time making music. He is very talented in this area and his dancing also became very good making him one of the most sought after all-rounder artist in China. He is also known for trying to promote Mando-pop to the world which he has been quite successful, so he most of his songs are in both English and Chinese languages.

Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (in Peking opera costume) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon is the spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch help pass along the spirit.
Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. They also mock at his dream of bringing Chinese music to the world, saying that all of his hard work and effort will go in vain. Lay and Hua are true great musicians. Lay is an incredible dancer and even choreographer while Hua doesn't dance at all. But Lay isnt a strong vocalist as Hua. He is in the kpop group called EXO, they were around since 8 April 2012, he's the only chinese member left in the group (3 of the other chinese member left, sadly) Lay is, im not kidding nor exaggerating, the biggest celebrity in China. His group, EXO, is one of the top kpop group (literally). But he went on hiatus since 2018 because of the tension between china and korea (since then, hes been working on his solo career) hes an all rounder, but his position in EXO would be the main dancer, he sings and raps too! Yixing is one of the largest celebrities in China and is the ambassador of CYLC’s Hunan committee. He is highly respected as a musician and entertainer in China. His political involvement is also why he cannot promote with EXO since political differences with China and South Korea. He has been promoting as a soloist since 2017 but is still a part of EXO.
He was a child star and established himself in acting before being cast into SM entertainment. He debuted in EXO in 2012 in the sub-unit EXO-M as a main dancer and sub-vocalist. He is more of a singer than rapper but he enjoys and is great at both. He is now the last remaining Chinese member in the group.

I recommend you another famous Chinese rapper and singer Jackson Wang, he has a lot of songs in english actually. 100 ways and Bullet to the heart are vocal songs, Titanic and Papillon he shows his rap skills, all these are in english. He as Lay is from a kpop group called GOT7 and he has his own brand called Team Wang. He continues his work with the group but at the same time he works for his solo career .

Also he’s 29 yo, he is an all rounded artist and recently a CEO of Chromosome entertainment, yes he is one of the best dancer out there and yes of course he is really really big in China, he is the artist with the most endorsements out there including MAC, Valentino, Oral B, Calvin Klein, converse, Daniel Wellington and many more, just to name some and has his own jewelry brand called Layciga. He started in the industry since child but he debuted in EXO when he was 21 yo. And he started his solo career in 2016 with Lose Control. There’s many more info but I hope this help you a lil bit. Ah also the video was over 1M dlls and even though he is still under SM entertainment he payed all with the money of his own studio in China (Zhang Yixing Studio)

I find it interesting that Western reactors literally only have one living western artist to compare Asian artists to : Chris Brown. Lol. There are thousands of Kpop and Cpop, Jpop, etc artists who can easily out sing, out dance, out rap, out perform Chris Brown. And btw, Chris and Lay are close in age. 31 and 29. So Lay be having the same dance and rap influences that Chris had. Although the reactors didn’t actually say Lay must have been influenced by Chris -they insinuated it. Like most Western reactors that have no clue of the extraordinary talent coming out of Asia. I’m not @ these reactors but I want to clear it up. Asian artist are their own creations. No current Western artist is any different from an Asian artist. As kids, They listen to and watched all the pop/rap greats and got their influences the same way.

@@ekg891 yeah so you didn’t read my post correctly at all. I explicitly said that Chris (and the other artists you just listed) were influenced by the same great artists. Unless you are racist and implying that no other races or cultures are allowed to be influenced by such artists , then you’ve missed my point. No one said Chris isn’t talented , but to discredit or minimize the creativity snd originality of any Kpop group, it’s choreo, and immeasurable talents by saying that it’s owed to Chris Brown’s influence is ignorant. He’s the same age as many of these members Kpop groups. So when he was a little black boy imitating MJ or whomever of that era -so was a little Asian kid doing the same. When they both grew up and exhibited their talents you can’t say the Asian kid got it from Chris Brown. And also there are over 300 active Kpop groups with equal or exceeding talents of Chris Brown which was my point. Few Western artists with exception of a handful you’ve mentioned, do very little by way of giving a choreographed performance.

Why must Chris Brown be the designated acceptable influence for countless Kpop Artists ? it’s ridiculous. If anything, MJ is the original influence. And why is it so important to discredit or minimize non-black creativity such as what the kpop genre has done -by constantly seeking and trying to identify and credit a source that kpop must have copied?? There have been almost 5 generations of Kpop now. By now, the genre is an influence upon itself. And there have been several generations of western pop or hip hop artists who influence the world. Chris Brown is not the origin of Kpop choreo . I’m simply suggesting that it’s tired and lazy to credit Kpop creativity to a 21st century western artist who is the same age and has the same influences.
@@ekg891 also , I prefer Kpop or khiphop over western rap or hip hop because the lyrical content of western artist is pretty disgusting , overused , and just boring . (I’m looking at you WAP. ) The male pop/hip hop artist dont dance while the female artist simply pole or lap dance. With the exception of very few -like Ciara -most just look sluggish and can barely move their enhanced curves. No agility. I don’t think current western pop artist are authentic at all-except for maybe Lil Nas X who actually has something to prove and something to say to the industry.
@@ekg891 Korean did invent kpop. And just because some dance moves are similar to a few western artists doesn’t make the entire genre a copy of western pop. In fact, Kpop is an amalgamation of visuals, video, vocals, rap, dance, theories, fashion, sns, etc etc. Korea is a leader in video production, sound engineering, film, internet technology, fashion etc. the west is far behind in these elements. Facts. Kpop may blend a few dance moves or trap beat , rap, influences from the west but the end result is entirely unique and completely a thing of its own.
