@ Emma. Everything is perfect about this video. And thank you for having the times written on the video, It helped me pause and see it on the screen for reassurance. I used the Four oh Five brand on glitter vinyl from Hobby Lobby and it came out perfect with your instructions and the color vibrancy. Out of curiosity, has anyone used a brand of glitter vinyl that wasn't great?
I just wish the camera and direct light could have been placed very close to the shirt so I could see the advantages of sublimating on white vinyl vs glitter vinyl. I thought you were going to do it at the end. Visuals always speak louder than words
Thank you so much for this tutorial I definitely need to try this, I’m sure that I have to watch the video a few times more just to meme sure that I’m doing it right 💕☺️ again thank you ☺️
I use them both, sometimes for the same things sometimes for different things. The brown is unwaxed parchment paper, the whit is regular butcher paper. I typically use in between my shirt when sublimating, and on top to prevent the colors from blowing out onto your press.
I cant tell you how much this tutorial helped me. I have been struggling for a few hours to get my sublimation to work on my glitter HTV and now I know a better way of doing this. Question though. Have you ever tried to get Cricut design space to print and then attempt to get it to cut it out as well? I am doing a sunflower and was hoping to get Cricut design space to cut it out too. The mirror option when printing the sublimation graphic messes with design space and it can’t read between the black lines to cut it and sends error messages. That’s what I’m trying to do, to no avail. I will use your Word option though to be able to now know how to make the image bigger. Much thanks. That’s my biggest gripe with design space. The maximum 6.25 x 9.25 printing really limits us crafters.
I am trying to get my print then cut to cut out the mirrored image from my sublimation printer but it wants to cut it out backwards from what it should be! Very frustrating!!!
Hi Emma. I am new to the sublimation world and your videos are the best! You are a great teacher and easy to follow. I love the glitter for a more girly look, but can I use plain white htv for mens black 100% cotton shirts?
No you cannot, plain white HTV will not work with sublimation. The best is EasySubli, it’s like a plain white HTV. I have a tutorial on it that you can watch.
Hi Emma I love your vids please make more. I'm a retired man from Canada and have been doing embroidery for years and just started doing t shirts. As for all my equipment I use Brother so I have a scan and cut. My question is can I use any brand of glitter htv and why not just regular white htv ? Thanks kindly Carter
Carter, thanks so much for watching! I see your other comment that you found your answer. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with! Happy crafting!
I learn something from you on every video even about WORD...i applied a sublimation to a polyester shirt and FORGOT to put an add on i.e. (never give up phrase). Question: Can i process the shirt a second time to get my phrase in there?
I agree, so exciting to be able to sublimate on Cotton! My tanks are from Jiffyshirts.com. They are the Ladies' Perfect Tri Racerback Tank. They are 50/50 but they sub really well surprisingly.
Awesome video, still waiting on my printer to get here. Have you ever turned your image to cut, in design space and had the Cricut cut it, once you print it from Microsoft word? I ask this because I can’t cut a straight, if you paid me to, lol. I would be so afraid I would cut the image too close or not close enough.
You can, but design space has limitations of only cutting 9.25 x 6.75 which honestly is too small for most adult shirts. I’ve just started playing with the SOLO cutter by StarCraft and it will cut much larger print and cuts. Maybe someday Cricut will print and cut larger.
@@terrysimmons2844 I think it would be okay, but maybe a little too sparkly. You can try EasySubli. You would apply it pretty much the same as the Glittler HTV. I haven’t tried it yet but when I do, I’ll make a video.
What about the glitter htv allows the sublimation to attach over normal htv? And for clarification, I can sublimate on any color, cotton shirt with a white (ish) glitter htv? And if I wanted to use a darker glitter htv (for effect) that would be ok? Thank you for the great video.
Excellent questions Mpakirk! Glitter HTV has polyester in it, that is why we can sublimate on it! It does have to be a light colored Glitter HTV to work. I've only used white, but I hear the light colored rainbow Glitter HTV works as well. Yes, you can use the Glitter HTV on any color of cotton shirt!
It’s so hard for me to help you when I can’t see it. The good news is that Cricut Design Space has made improvements since this recording and you should now be able to print and cut much larger images straight from there and not have to use Microsoft.
I include washing instructions on all my orders. HTV will crack and slightly peel over time. Same as any HTV shirt you buy at the store, its not fused into the shirt like sublimation ink does. I tell my customers to wash in cold water, no fabric softner, no iron on the image, no dry clean and tumble dry low.
I have tried this 3 times so far, all three times my cut image does not line up with my printed image. I doubled checked to make sure the size in my program matches the size in cricut. Only difference is I’m on Mac, so don’t have Microsoft word, I’m printing from affinity.
I had this happen the other day and I was so puzzled. But then I realized the image I was printing from Microsoft Word had some space around it. Double click on the image and crop it, make sure there is no space around it at all.
I had this same issue! Word sizing is using the square around the image not just the image. It offers the image size. I’ll try the cropping and see if that works.
I didn't work for me 🥺. I have a sawgrass and the image is smaller than the size is telling me it is😭. I worked around it making tests cuts. But I'm never going to not have a big white border.
@@Lillyscraftsandgifts I just got an Epson 15000 so I can print bigger prints, and love it! They are on major back order and hard to get. I also have an Epson 2760 that I love but it only prints 8.5 x 11. There are ways to print an image on multiple pages and then piece them together once printed, watch my video on how to print bigger prints. Both of these printers need to be converted to sublimation. Very easy to do with a brand new printer, by purchasing sublimation ink and putting that in the cartridges vs. the regular ink. Easy as that.
@@Lillyscraftsandgifts no, I don’t believe so. You’ll need a printer that has a cartridge slot for each color black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. If you watch my video how to set up an Epson 15000 and fast forward to about 11:00 minutes you’ll see what I’m talking about.

@@EmmasCottage ME TOO.
Great tutorial! Can this be done on dark 100% polyester?
As long as you’re using the glitter HTV, sure! But you can’t sublimate straight on any dark substrates.
Thank you Emma I will be trying this today! Nice demo, I also like to work out of word.
Wonderful!
Your videos are all my favorite. Thank you

Great tips!
Glad you think so!
How do they last with washing? Love your videos! Thanks!!
This one is about a year old and has held up just fine through multiple washes! I was inside out.
What’s paper the you use for sublimation paper plz

How does it hold up after a few washes? I love this
I’ve made a few shirts with this method and they have all held up great with multiple washes. The color has not faded.
Absolutely Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thanks for the Awesome tips..

Should the shirt be washed first for shrinkage? I love the way it came out!
Yes, especially because it's 100% cotton and will shrink when washed! Thanks for watching!

What was the reason you used "glitter" vs just white htv? Is it because the glitter helps it to adhere better than just plain white htv?
The glitter has the needed polyester material to sublimate, regular HTV does not.
They now make a clear matte htv that you can use as well for sublimation.

The sublimation image lasts forever. The HTV will crack and peel over time through each wash.
