Brilliant videos cheers! I love my E5000 to bits. And my Akai’s (S5000 and S3000xl) such great machines and hours of fun!

This is awesome, as are all your videos mate, just wanted to say thanks :) Been using an Akai S3000 since 1994 but the poor bugger blew up on me the other night so I'm finally getting round to trying my E6400 - only reason I've not done much with it is the daunting OS and my lack of patience. These videos are a god-send, so thanks again mate!

Thx, other way around for me - I'm on an akai after selling the EMU (I wish i kept it now) - I like the Akai though, you got it sounding sweet on your tunes - those jungle beats are nice. Did you pre-chop your breaks or chop them in the Akai ? I sucked at it when I tried.
With the EMU try using velocity>sample start if you haven't already - you can time stretch & chop with it if you program in the velocities carefully.

Nice one mate, cheers for the feedback :D Yeah I tend to do it the old fashioned way and sample in a whole break, then make about ten copies of it and cut into each one further by hand, so you have the rest of the tail following each bit (say the hat/snare/2nd kick/2nd snare etc). Then add a couple of reversed ones and cut into them randomly and adjust the amp envelope, so there's some 'noise' there to fill the odd gaps or just do the full reversed thing.
Def gonna try that sample start thing in a bit, been mostly using it for pads and stuff while I get my head around it and it sounds ace with all the modulation stuff and effects, but really need to tackle using drums in it now!
Think I know what you mean about the time stretch effect using the velocities, like increasing them and copying the notes so it cuts through the sample each time? So much creative madness possible!

Gotta be in the right mood to do all that old skool sampling :)
emu - Its actually easier once you get used to it.
Re; velocity yes. Turn velocity > volume off & turn velocity to sample start 100% or mess about. Then draw in the breaks & adjust the velocity.
My old synth didn't send velocity data so I assigned the same break to each key with a different velocity>sample start number to 'chop' - works best on 1 bar breaks.
Draw in notes on every 32nd/64th in the sequencer with a velocity ramp to stretch... its nice.

yeh thats correct !! I really don't like that about the internal fx routing system.....it would be nice to have the fx on the sub outs.

thanks: nice and easy to follow, will try that on mine. I thought AMEN SPLIT was going to be a heavenly choir type sound, I laffed when I hear a manic drum loop.

is it possible for you to split the 3 effects into the overall for the beak per say? Im new sorry im thinking about buying one of these!! I find your videos very informative ive used some old akai's before

    • @authuser1294
      @authuser1294 10 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, Thanks, I don't think you can split into 3 effects on here, its a little limited in flexibility. I'm messing around with an AKAI at the moment - so I don't have an EMU here - its been a while since I used one.

was watching the fracture and neptune video but were doing 808s could bounce it out and layer, eqing the bottem out on one. could add an effect before you print.. stack two-3 different alterations of the same sound, will try when I get mine :)

      Hidden Concept
could just print out to the computer after a few resampling, use more modern effects, Gotta take benefit of cords
before its digitized on the daw

Hidden Concept The cool thing about the Emu Ultras is they can sample their outputs, so you could add a touch of distortion, resample, dab of reverb / filter modulation resample etc etc. Creating programs isn't as much a pain in the arse like the Akai S3k for example. Yeh you could also add modern fx from the computer too & sample back in. Try & get one with the latest OS, sufficient RAM, & a zip or something for storage.
