I've just found your channel thank you for making music, I'm literally going through a lot of hardships in life but music is saving me from being sad especially your playing and expression through making music. Thank You So Much God Bless you for this New Year ✊🏾❤🎶
What’s your drum kit process? Mixture of splice, VST’s like addictive drums or slate, samples sound great! Sometimes depending on the genre I’ll use addictive hats and rides, then one shot kicks and snares etc
Not specifically Coltrane inspired but I do listen to a lot of jazz. It’s a mixture of feel, melody and theory. Check out my video ‘sometimes a b section is all you need’ which goes into it in a bit more detail 🙌🏼
That last point is so true I’ve learned recently that (personally) for me it goes action > inspiration. If I sit and wait for the right time or inspiration nothing will get done. Learning to make and move on was the hardest part for me
I learned that I’m the opposite, which is probably why I am so intrigued by videos like this. If i force myself to create, everything I make comes out worse than when I allow myself to wait until inspiration strikes me. I make great strides in the quality of almost every part of my music when I take breaks. But it’s also probably important that when I take breaks from producing, I am still living and breathing music, be it through content like this, listening to artists I enjoy, going to shows, just talking about it, or whatever. I am just not forcing myself to sit down and make it when I don’t really want to anymore. To each their own, of course.
I love your film style and obviously your music production. P.S. If you ever want to collaborate on a video / song, let me know. I have about 20k followers and am new to TH-cam, but about to be monetized.. Could be fun... If not, I'll just keep enjoying your content as a sub 🤙
i have been a musician for decades, is a beat just a song section? what is a beat? why is it called a beat? i dont understand. do people sell beats? why is it such a popular subject? can people not make their own beats?
Really inspiring! Thanks for sharing with us this challenge and journey 🙏🏽❤️🔥🎵☺️ trying to build the consistency of studying & making music each day at the moment, so coming across this video was just the video God knew I needed to see. Thank you! May God bless you & your musical journey 🙌🏽💖Amen
Happy to have bumped into you! Its always a pleasure listening to the thought process, to see the developments and see your workflow. Inspiring and motivating. + the song came out Great!! All the best to you! God bless.
I see a video from you and click 😂 one thing about goals like (making a beat once a day) is that it doesn’t factor in life. Rest is a right not a reward people, it’s like two sides of the same coin - too nonchalant can fuel procrastination- and too much persistence can get you to a creative block.
when you record on your big keyboard do you plug it in to your audio interface while recording or do you just record it on the keyboard and record it back later?
When I’m at my desk I’m usually recording the Nord directly to my audio interface. Same when I’m at the piano but using mics to capture the audio 🙌🏼 sometimes I switch things up later, like if I’m gonna release the track and continue working on it off camera ☺️
Apologies if you have a whole video on this or something, but I’m just now getting familiar with your channel, and I’m wondering how you mic/process the acoustic piano. Everything sounds great! Thanks for posting!
Hey I do have a video that answers your question in more detail but in short I’m recording my upright piano with a stereo pair of mics and my chain is usually something like preamp - EQ - saturation - compression (optional). Hope that helps!
Over 6k subscribers. Congrats mate. I’ve a feeling you’re gonna blow up in popularity as you’ve got an amazing channel and come across as a really decent and authentic human being never mind the fact that you’re an awesome musician. Keep ‘er lit as we say in Belfast!
Hey Matt, new sub here, really liked your video. The biggest challenge for me is getting that idea out of my idea before I consider it boring or I labor looking for the sounds until I get annoyed with the music process and close the DAW. 😅 Thanks for the inspiration though, need to push the feeling and get the music out!
The bass you use in most of your beats sounds so good holy smokes Very nice video otherwise, it looks so good polished and is engaging the whole way through that was great!!
Incredibly underrated! The music, the edit and the flow of the video is all perfect! That part with KSR was pure vibes! Where do you get your drums from? Great soundselection for every beat in this video! Oh and what camera are you using, so CRISP!
Inspiring video man! Loving your stuff. Been listening to you on spotify for a while and TH-cam just recommended your videos. Pleasant surprise. Would love to know more about how you make these videos, what camera you use etc
This is a nice reminder that using non-diatonic 7th chords goes very far when creating a Neo Soul vibe. I always put a lot of pressure on myself to use wild chords I don't know how to use too well.
Love this content! Song-writer, producer here from NYC, keep doing your thing! Btw what chair is that for the studio? looks good im trying to get a new one haha
Hey Matt - Love the video in 2024 I am looking start making music/beat driven content, any chance you could let me know what camera you used in this video? Visuals looks great!
Thank you so much! It was a semi-diy project and the desk consists of treated scaffold planks held together by some steel square legs 😅 the tray was made by a seller on Etsy who helped with the measurements and cut it all to size!!
Bruh the editing and graphics are so good. It only a matter of time.

Music is beautiful as well

loooove your piano playing man. how you record ur upright piano actually, sounds great!
How do you come up with these chord root progressions? Are they Coltrane inspired?
Not specifically Coltrane inspired but I do listen to a lot of jazz. It’s a mixture of feel, melody and theory. Check out my video ‘sometimes a b section is all you need’ which goes into it in a bit more detail 🙌🏼

Waiting that collab with K S R! Really nice video, good to see the progress, beautiful music, and also nice edition!
Ive been making music every day for about 4 years, hours a day. So I don't get the concept of the video, but amazing music as always Matt!
