Holy shit. On behaf of the oppressed people of America, THANK YOU for sharing that with youtube. That's the best quote I've seen in a long, long time. Good shit.
It's good to see real hip hop listening political activist comrades like yourself popping up.

@mindstatekrew ....being slaved is no better than being killed. Being slave robs you of your life, being run down till only skin is left wrap around your bones. There is no lesser evil between the two.

Thanks for posting - I mean that - Def Poetry was like the best thing on cable that could ever hold my attention b/c it has substance which equals FOOD FOR THOUGHT - Any stage DP is on they keep it REAL RBG in every sense of the meaning whether these toms, politicians/politrKKKing or nazis like it or not - Florida votes were thrown the fuck out - Miscount my supple Black ass - For those who don't like this DON'T LISTEN - It's quite simple - DP RBG MINDED UHURU

Harlem is where he started cutting out a life for himself as a young man. It means we are shaped by our environment. You're born and raised in a home, maybe a small community. When you begin being an adult, and take that formative experience, and use it to sink/swim/affect the world, then you're really being a person. That's when you're 'born' into the world, That statement was about consciousness vs mere biological existence.

King came from the deep south where communities had to turn inward/insulate to protect themselves from the lawless lynch mob. People took solace in the church and family.
Malcolm came from the cut throat streets of Harlem where heroin, crime, and prostitution corrupted the family from within.
We're always born from what we came from. What we turn that into is one measure of a person, the other is how we use it to shape our world. Both men had strengths in both areas.

    Kind of.
From what I've read in a few anthropology books, slavery in the middle east is often a way for people, particularly women whose family can't afford to support them and can't be married for whatever reason, such as if their husband abandoned them, to be integrated into a family that can afford them. It's pretty different from our idea of slavery, but it still sucks.
I don't really think it matters if Africans participated in any leg of the slave trade. African Americans are

While it's true Europeans rarely made the trek into Africa to kidnap people themselves, their main trade for the slaves was guns. The guns enabled the more militant people to subjugate those around them and capture the people. In order to contend, you had to get guns yourself. Those willing to commit evil deeds became more powerful, and those who were not were crushed. This was far more damaging. We're not responsible for the past, but we reap the benefits. It must be rectified, somehow.

somebody needs to take some african american lit courses. It wasn't Abraham Lincoln intentions to free blacks. The British offered blacks freedoms if we would fight on their side. Lincoln figured if he freed blacks first they would reside with America. Hell even after slavery, America still got labor out of blacks anyway and some even remained as slaves, but thats jus the short version of the story. To find out more go pick up a book.

To all those that oppose my saying, "shalom. Rise o ye Israel". I strongly encourage to do a righteous search of who and what true Israel is. Your denouncing me speaks volumes to your intellectual astuteness. So, once again: shalom. rise, o ye Israel. Read a book. As a matter of fact, read quite a few.
