    To elaborate a bit, Associate Football came out of a desire to codify the varies "football" games that existed within the UK. At the time the term football was used for everything, including Rugby or at least what became known as Rugby. Rugby was at the table when the Football Association (FA) started. However, when the rules started getting written-up, the FA refuse to allow the "carrying of the ball with hands" and thus Rugby and any other football that allowed the "carrying of the ball" walked out. As a result, we have Association Football or Soccer being born out of the codification of a football sport by the FA (the association in association football).
    The name Soccer was promoted early because there were other "footballs" and the FA wanted to distinguish their football from the other footballs. However, in most countries the term "soccer" is now redundant as when you say "Football" most people in the world know you mean Association Football. But in countries where other forms of football still have a major presence, such as USA, Australia, Canada or countries where the American influence is high, people still call it Soccer. It's perfectly fine and just reflects something of the culture of the country.
    Lastly, it is 100% true that balls sports that are played mostly with the foot has existed in some form or another in many countries. It is because of this that football is such a global sport. Kick around something round... you can't get more natural and basic then that ^.^

    Guys, it's football or soccer. It depends on where you live, so stop saying it's this or that.. Well yeah sure the inventor of football/soccer named it football, but other people call it differently because I have no idea. My point is, it's not that big of a deal.

      Dusk vex Well, I think, back in the early 1900s, Americans called soccer "Football". But, since American Football was invented, We have called it, Football. American football is king in American sports and soccer really hasn't been as popular, like in England or Brazil. So, I think we don't call it Football because it is the second "football" behind American football.

    Well, the origins of football actually started in china. Dating back to the b c era. There are records that talk about a fall being kicked to a hole of a net. So I don't know how they came up this. It was in england.

    I am English/European my point is the outdated English Upper Class shortening/nicknaming of Association FOOTBALL into ;-/soccer;-/ ... In North America [USA - Canada] you use this silly nickname shortening of Association FOOTBALL however .... Your continental-regional FOOTBALL Governing body is called CONCACAF = meaning the Confederation Of North Central And Caribbean Association FOOTBALL ... our World FOOTBALL governing body is FIFA = meaning the Federation of International FOOTBALL Associations. Go beyond North America and say FOOTBALL ... regardless of any language people will understand what game you mean .... the game each team constantly kick and control a round FOOTBALL with your FEET ... that's why we call it FOOTBALL.
    Let me explain the History of FOOTBALL and your outdated silly word you use, the video above explains the basics, I will add more factual information. In the early 1800s in England, FOOTBALL was organised by the English Upper Class. In the mid 1800s in the university town of 'Rugby' while playing Football, a 'Chap' as they would say,called William Webb Ellis, on playing the kicking - controlling of the round ball game of football ... He picked up the ball and ran with it, this was the emergence of the game of RUGBY UNION or Raggah as those English Upper Class twits would say, That game of Rugby Union with the Oval ball constantly holding and throw passing it, each team trying to get the oval ball over the opposing touch line for a Try or Touchdown as you would call it, then you kick the oval ball through and over the H goal .... Does this hand ball Rugby Game seem familiar to You North America.
    So in the late 1800s Association FOOTBALL along along with Rugby Union came to North America, the south/central americans and europeans played/watched FOOTBALL and Rugby Union was played at US/Canadian Collages. In regard to Rugby Union within you Collages it was slightly changed in format/rules and renamed as American Football .... The reality is this, it is a Hand Ball Rugby Like Game .... NOT A FOOT CONTROLLING OF A ROUND BALL GAME LIKE FOOTBALL, that's why THE WORLD calls it FOOTBALL ... FACT.

      @merseydave1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dj Dobby's Sick Rhymes, I know you call your grid iron game football, as I explained in my first comment on this video, your grid iron game comes from the game of Rugby ... so you should have called it Rugby. Our world game of FOOTBALL is self explanatory, we constantly kick and control The Football with our FEET that's the rest of the World calls it FOOTBALL.

    • @merseydave1

      The "s" word was made up-shortened-nick named by The English Upper Class Snobs ... they said ;-/ soccer ;-/ shortening Association Football ... they did the same to Rugby Union ... calling it Raggah ... But here is The Reality the names of our competitions and governing bodies are This; we have The FOOTBALL Association or The F.A. with The F.A. Cup Final and The F.A. Premier League. We have The English Football League with The Football League Championship and The Football League Cup ... So No "s" word here!
