  • The PlayStation 2 is an old system, yet some of the games were quite graphicallly impressive ,at least 15 or so years ago. But how good can you make one of the best looking sixth generation titles look when emulating it on PC, and how will it perform?
    Thanks for watching :)

      the games looked decent performance on the ps2 was garbage.
      And no, good gameplay does not mean otherwise. Yes, classic good games exist. No, the ps2 was not a hardware beast.
      The PS2 performance was laughable at the time, but mostly everyone bought it for the affordable dvd player not the console. Development on it was horrendous and most multi platform games ran their worst on the PS2.
      Again, this isn't dissing your favorite PS2 games. This is dissing its performance.

      You mean the potential GT visions game which had more than 20 cars in a race? That was basically GT4 assets on a development PS3. While it had lots of cars, it ran in the same engine basically and PD threw that in the garbage and built GT HD, which became GT prologue and finally GT5. PS3 was a notorious headache machine for developers but PD finally wrangled it under control enough to produce the first GT game with time of day transitions and weather. GT5/6 had some memorable drives, early morning sunrise at Nur is breathtaking. If you still have those games, give it a try, it makes GT Sport feel a bit sterile in this regard for take a car for a spin and enjoying the scenery.

Go search for a video done by DF on running modern game on CRT. And, the reasoning of the first comment is PS2 games already looked good back in those days because it was played and developed on CRT display in mind. Aliasing, motion blur, upscaling blur, input lag etc that later on became a problem on modern display never was a problem when it was played on the intended display.

      GT4 is a beast.
      It runs on my FX 6300 on later daily releases, not the stable release. Not much difference there as it doesn't load all six cores anyway.
      The official, stable release is horribly behind the daily releases as far as performance and features go.

      emulation is more intensive than for single-threaded performance compared to gaming. Basically just because it's an old console doesn't mean it isn't really really intensive. 1st gen FX cores are beyond horrid so I would not use them for emulating any 21st century consoles. They will definitely play old PC games and might work on new AAA titles.

      Nah, don't have burnout revenge. GT4 is the most intensive game I've got. I back down to native res for Route 5 but I can play 1080P on most, 720P on just about everything, 4K on a few.
      WWE Raw vs Smackdown 2006 showed some massive gains last summer. Previously it would slow to a crawl during battle royals, update improved that dramatically.
      My FX 6300 is 4GHz, 4.4 turbo, DDR3 1333, used to be 1600
      My i5 6300HQ is 2.3, 2.8 turbo and runs 2.8 99.9% of the time, DDR3L 1600 C9
      My Ivy Bridge Xeon is 3.4GHz, slightly overclocked, turbo at 3.8GHz, DDR3 1685ish, C10
      My i7 2630QM is dead stock, 2GHz with 2.6GHz turbo, DDR3 1333, like C11 or something horrible.

    Set VU Clamping to Extra;
    In SpeedHacks, set EE Cyclerate to +2;

    In SpeedHacks, set MTVU to active.
    Under video plugin settings:
    Set Interlacing to: Bob tff (use blend if shaking);
    Allow 8 bit textures and set Internal Resolution to 1080p or 720p;
    Under Audio plugin settings:
    Set Interpolation to 1 - Linear;
    Set "Disable Effect Processing" to active;
    Set Synchronizing Mode to Async Mix;
    While In-game, change brightness to 0.
    This worked for me, although there are occasional drops, it's playable.
