Anyone watching this and are raising pigs and don't know; ferment their feed with yeast, apple cider vinegar mother and kefir to prevent enteric problems. Also makes the meal more digestible to the pigs meaning you get more growth for less feed. I do it and and I've had no issues with having to give my pigs antibiotics. Also acidify water with apple cider vinegar as they do in this video.
I was just telling my three year old why I don’t buy bacon and was showing him what the pigs look like. I saw this and it made me cry I was so happy to see the pigs outside. So grateful some people do this. Seeing the babies with the mothers was so sweet.
Love this. I have raised a lot of pigs, 2 at a time for food. Always welfare, nutrition and comfort were my goals. What cage pigs do not get is 'comfort', intellectual comfort. Let pigs be pigs. If I lived near yorkshire, I would reach into a truck and paint my phone number on an animal and wait at the end of the slaughterhouse and take the carcase home.
This is very nice to see. Compared to a farm factory setting this is a vacation resort. I hope the standard here puts those old factory farms in the history books.
Iv just started working on a 700 sow farm that are all indoors its very different than outdoor pig farming the food that we put into our pigs is unbelievable, people wouldn't think theyr fed so we'll, we mix, soya, salmon oil, sugar, salt, peas, liquid patato, liquid whey, wheat, barley, and more, piglets get the best milk powder and much more, iv always worked on farms but not with pigs until now but it's goin good, love to work try an outdoor pig farm
Nice work !! I'm a Kirkbymoorside lad and recall, back in the late 40's taking our pig in a crate on wheels down street to Manor Vale so I grew up familiar with the whole process. At first I thought you were up behind the town near Gillamoor or Fadmoor, but you must be a bit further away as it wouldn't take that long to get to Malton. My ancestors used to operate both Yoadwath and Helmsley mills.
I've heard in Europe they butcher their hogs at 180 pounds, about 4.5 months of age. The 2 benefits of such a young slaughter weight is it's before sexual maturity, so secondary sex characteristics such as boar taint don't affect the animal, and they're butchered at the top of their feed conversion rate. That's how I understand it anyway. I'm in the US and I cut my males about at about 2-3 weeks of age and butcher at 6-7 months and 250-300 pounds like just about everybody else in the US does.
I don't eat pigs anymore, yet happy for these being bred this way, fantastic life and one bad day. If only others can produce this way of farming ......
Unless you grow all your own fruit and vegetables then you're also paying for animals to be killed. Birds, rabbits, feral pigs are all shot for crop protection.
I am not a farmer but we used to do 1/4 cup, about 2oz for every 2 gallons for chickens. I would guess that pigs wouldn't be much different because in chickens it does the same thing,
@@wendyslaby3373 good day! i just want to learn more about this vinegar method what are other benifits and function ?just only a brief to add my knowledge more of this...many thanks..good day
“Healthy well kept animal’s” For 5/6 months until they have their throats slit and are gutted for human consumption. Wake up to what’s happening, Theres nothing good about the situation these animals are in
Why does anyone need those horrible cages? These farms seem so upbeat and jolly, the pigs are happy, have freedom. Farmers that are choosing to use crates need to see this and see how much better life can be for these pigs.
Well I'd still have sows in farrowing crates for a couple of weeks. Just to protect the piglets. Nothing worse than seeing a litter of pigs killed by their mum.
So this is how they do it in England? Definitely not as bad as many high production cruel pig farmers do it. But, I don't know if words like fantastic and superb would be words I'd use to describe it. Above average and humane is what it use. I do know I wouldn't eat processed grains nor would I want to eat meat raised on processed anything. But that's just me. Many people don't mind that type of food. Maybe neither way is best or healthiest for a long fruitful, active and cancer free life. I can say that if I wouldn't want myself or pet or animal that I purchased to be raised and fed in this manner, I wouldn't purchase them either. Thanks for sharing. I do like to know what my options are, good or bad.
The grains are now processed I'm basic terms the different feed rations are mixed and compressed into pellets to ensure each animal gets the right balance after each food. Feed everything separate and some pigs will eat all of one thing and nothing of another for example
I adore this set-up. No animals stressed, didn't see an 'annoyed animal'. Amazing. the only thing I could do better was give my pig an apple and when it looked down I could shoot it. No Stress... I dont like killing per se. I did those pigs justice, no stress and I didnt waste any. That to me is ethical. If this yorkshire farm had an abbatoir or was next door.....even better.. Cheers and keep up the good work...
Bring sows indoors for farrowing i.e. Crates.Better mortality. The rest of the unit brilliant. All the best. Ps how have you managed this very wet winter. Sows are looking well.do you employ local people. Or do you employ European labour. I have worked on outdoor units throughout the country and have found most of the Labour are European. British people won't work this hard and especially in the winter.
Stevey Kimson - land, some sort of fence, food, pig, find buyers,a few months in on the first batch of pigs you'll need to find new pigs to replace the first batch and repeat.
As much as this IS a step in the right direction towards what is natural for the pigs I can still see some problems. The first being no rotational Grazing. The ground has little to no time to re-cooperate leaving the soil bare and unable to maintain the carbon emissions from the pigs. Also, a pig who always gets to root, specifically in a wooded area with nuts and seeds maintain a better over all health and happiness. Then we have the growing out operation that is all indoors. Vitamin D isn't only important during the first months of a pigs life but need to be continuos in order to help good pig health. It is a very important part of theirs and ours immune system. As a reservation I would object to a vegetarian diet on any animal that is an omnivore. But I do understand the choice to do so in today's market where people are so sensitive they refuse animals the right composition food because of their feelings.
@@teresagillmer9464 everyone have their place in the world. Some struggle with hunting or breeding animals for food. Others can't grow carrots to save their life. All are important to get a good balance tho. And balance is important.

Excellent video. Wondering about the ratio of vinegar in the water flow/trough?
This is how pigs should be kept.
Awesome, just taught me about vinegar, which I'm a huge fan of. Wonder if Apple Cider Vinegar is better or equally as good as other.
Hi I want to learn about the behavior and how you manage this free-range.. can I come for more information please
how much vinegar do you put in their water at like at a 55 gallon drums at a time
In how many months is a 100 kilos?
Do they get clean water bath at all?
is that malt vinegar or white vinegar for the water?

DO YOU ENSURE THEY ARE SLAUGHTERED HUMANELY? YOU HEAR AND READ OF SUCH BARBARIC TREATMENT OF THESE INTELLIGENT AND SENSITIVE ANIMALS.
At 2:04, he says he doesn't castrate the piglets. I assumed this was a meat hog operation? Not castrating them greatly affects the taste of the meat.
if he does not castrate, how does he prevents males from impregnating females? what does a hog production mean?
Wouldn't that bother you jeffery you get bastard
