Well done & well organized. I am new to trying this and your vid was the most clear and concise AND fully listed all the exact ingredients AND showed how much the 60 ib bag would make (alot of vids just seem to assume you know everything) . I feel alot more confident about going into this- thank you!
dreams of turtles thank you! It can be an intimidating project- I sure felt that way when I got into it, so I’m glad to know this helps eliminate some of that! 🤗
PLEASE USE A FACE MASK WITH DRY CEMENT! You do not want to inhale dry cement. It is very bad for your lungs. On a positive note: thank you for showing the mix you used and giving thorough instructions.
Concrete would of been more suitable for stepping stones. It’s a lot stronger than mortar. Mortar is used to bind bricks or cinder blocks together. It’s kinda like a glue. Concrete is used for sidewalks driveways etc. The stepping stones came out nice!
Thank you for this excellent video. I have been thinking about making some stepping stones for a while and this has really helped. Beautiful stones created by all of you :)
Great tutorial, thanks! I didn't know I needed mortar mix specifically. I'm going to try this with my boys, and maybe put plastic wrap over it so they can do handprints safely and then just peel the plastic off. Even if it doesn't work, we can just smooth it out and try something else!
I noticed you didnt add any latex additive. Quickcrete is meant to have additive added to it. Without it- it has little adhesive in it to keep your design pieces in place. The stone will eventually crack into pieces if walked on. For best results - add it into the water before you mix it into the cement. Up to 50% of liquid added can be additive. MUST USE GLOVES! wash any you get on skin off and rinse with vinegar to stop chemical burn thats happening to your skin even after removing with soap and water.
Thank you for this video. I needed something quick to make. I have less than 24 hours to make a print of my dog’s paw. Where can I find a heart shape mold?
I made some stepping stones in a plastic mold that I wiped with vegetable oil. After they were removed from the mold there were dark areas on the stones, I am thinking it is from the oil but don't know. Have you ever had this happen?
Sorry it took awhile to reply.. my internet has been terrible since the pandemic has forced so many online at home. I’m glad you tried the stepping stones! I haven’t experienced the darkening. Has it lightened any? I would think with time/weather, it would. Sometimes defects just add to the character and beauty of these things! 😊
great tutorial. i just tried this but i think the mix was not as wet as yours. can i "fix" this when i put the sealer on? and what brand did you use? very confusing to find online and really expensive for a large amount. i'm sure i don't need that much. thanks so much!
Sorry for so long to reply.. I’m afraid I can’t be of help. I’m not sure if or how that could be fixed. 🤔 What did you end up doing? On a positive note, so much of my crafting is experimental 😆... I always have fun learning what does/doesn’t work.
Sorry it took me awhile to reply.. my internet service hasn’t been so good since COVID. My husband worked in concrete for several years so o asked him what he thought would be best and the mortar mix is what he suggested and yes it was easy to work with. It’s been several years and they’ve all held up good. 😊
Vidia Ramheerai I’m sorry it took so long to reply. My internet has been bad with the pandemic. It was already weak since I live in a rural area! 😄 I had to ask my husband your question- he said he thinks the stepping stones need strength from aggregate, so he’s not sure thinset would work. But he added that it could possibly be fine. I find that so many of the things I’ve done have been experiments. That’s mostly how I’ve learned. I say go for it and see what happens. 😊
Michelle Belle thanks! 😊 I used regular craft paint (Folk Art I think) but I used an outdoor sealer over it. If you use a sealer, consider apply it with a brush only over painted areas or if you spray it, use a glossy sealer so it won't dull the shine of the glass pieces. The sealer definitely needs to be reapplied each year or so, depending on many factors.
Tanya L hello, after I sketched what I wanted on paper to make sure it would fit, I just freehanded the words with a liner brush and acrylic paint. Thanks for watching! : )
Stacy Wieds from what I understand it’s corrosive and could really irritate your skin. My boys hands were fine just handling it for a short period of time, but their hands aren’t very sensitive at all. Maybe quick hand prints would be fine.. you have to use your best judgement there. You could try disposable gloves maybe. I just wanted to be sure to share the warning that it isn’t considered to safe to handle with bare hands. 😊 Best of luck to you!
Rob Shillinglaw It may be the exposure making them look white. They're actually just very light gray, the color of any concrete when it's completely dry. 👍
Thank you for this excellent video. I have been thinking about making some stepping stones for a while and this has really helped. Beautiful stones created by all of you :)
The horseshoe is awesome. I have some old ones my mother in law gave me and have been wondering what to do with them - this is PERFECT!
Thanks! 😊 Several will be very cool!
Awesome job! Quick and to the point!!
Thank you! 😊

Lovely. Think I'll have my 4 year old grandson make a couple for his Mommy for Mother's Day. Thank you for sharing your tips.

Everything came out Beautifully!!!
Esmeyesteban Reyes did you try it? Thank you! 😊
Glad you had such good success. 🌼 Neat to see how many steppingstones you got from a 60lb bag of concrete.
Amazing Art 👌👍 only worried about you didn't wear gloves throughout. So plz be careful. Thank you.

They turned out very pretty.
thank you Katrina! =)
These are great. 😊❤️ I was trying to find what I should put my form on top of. Using cardboard is a good idea I think.
Very helpful for our stepping stone project, thanks so much!!! ❤
Thank you!! I’m so glad it helped!!
Simple and helpful. Thanks!
I love these!

This video was great. Thanks!
Jeb Gardener thank you so much! 😊
What did u use to paint your writing on?
Where did you get the butterfly mold? I've been looking for one!!
If I remember correctly, AC Moore. 😊
Thank you for this video. I needed something quick to make. I have less than 24 hours to make a print of my dog’s paw.
Where can I find a heart shape mold?
Anna Sylvia Thank you! The only places I know of are Hobby Lobby, Michaels or A.C. Moore.
Anna Sylvia
Also check goodwill...tons of cheap pans plates utensils or use with this.
beautiful...
Love it!!
CalGirl20 thanks!
Great job. Thank you.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Wow. Nice
I tried concrete mix and my stones broke when I stepped on them. I bought mortar mix today and will try that.
You can use wire inside the concrete. We used hardware cloth wire and our stepping stones have lasted 8 years so far and going strong.

@@jamieskelton2622 the darkening seems permanent. If painting the stones it's fine but shows if leaving unpainted

Did you use mortar mix because it's easier to work with than concrete because of the lack of rocks?

Can I use thinset instead of cement for this

Got this stuff on my hands and my skin is peeling so bad and I can't do nothin about it
Love it! What type of paint and sealer did you use?
Michelle Belle thanks! 😊

Do you need to put a protective coating on these stones?
deewv3 not unless you put paint on them. 😊
Where did you find your molds?
Hi! I got the plastic ones from AC Moore and the little tins came from the dollar store. Have fun! 😊
loved the Bible verses!
4:40 the prettiest
You had some with words on them. How do you do that?
Tanya L hello, after I sketched what I wanted on paper to make sure it would fit, I just freehanded the words with a liner brush and acrylic paint. Thanks for watching! : )
Why can't you use your hands? I was thinking of doing hand prints in mine. Thanks.

@@jamieskelton2622 Maybe put a thick layer of Vaseline on the hands and wash immediately would not be much exposure to the concrete.
Or do a plaster of Paris mold of the hands then Vaseline that and set into concrete until dried would leave a better impression??? Just an idea
Why do they look white when finished?
Rob Shillinglaw It may be the exposure making them look white. They're actually just very light gray, the color of any concrete when it's completely dry. 👍
To thick ouch
