That looks like it was spray painted. I don't think spray paint would've been around in the early 1900's.
The latches are certainly newer.

Even if it isn’t Thurston’s box, it’s still a piece of magic history, from a famous magician or not. This box is very well one of the surviving props from the golden age of stage illusions
Coming from someone who also does magic, dismantling a prop that old of a trick as iconic as sawing a lady in half and cutting it down to make it into a coffee table is just unthinkable

You can't say something like that's worthless just because it wasn't actually Thurston's. Whether magic props actually belonged to famous magicians or not, they're worth a lot. Magic boxes alone are really expensive.
He curled his body in one half of the box. Stuffed pants with his shoes on the other side. Notice the two blades when cutting in the center each seal the two halfs, this to hide te content of each before he turns them around. The rest is camera work they open up the entire boxes after the props got taken out and he is “resting on the entire piece”

AWWW! I really wish they would change up the sequence on these authentications. They launch these poor people into the stratosphere with what it is worth if genuine, then yank them down like a meteor burning up.
