- Track 3 of the audiovisual album Oscilloscope Music
available at oscilloscopemus...
What you see is what you hear: The audio signal is fed directly into the oscilloscope, where vector graphics are drawn with sound.
Filmed from an analog Tektronix 5103N scope.
left audio channel: horizontal deflection
right audio channel: vertical deflection
This track was made entirely with OsciStudio: asdfg.me/oscis...

well technically thats the goal of every music clip production
I think the third line should be: I gotta make this sound look cool

Brings new meaning to the phrase 'square wave'.
it's the cube wave
**facepalm**
Funnily enough, able of square waves were used here to make the duplication possible.
I like how nobody in the replies took the joke as a joke.
Ha! LOL
Knees were slapped.
...this sounds like something I'd expect to hear in the TRON soundtracks.

We should beam a signal out into space with this on it. Would confuse the hell out of any aliens that find it as to what it means. Particularly if they analyze it in a way that gives them the fun visuals.

depends on the alien

I would love to see just the large cube from 2:09-2:16 rotating by itself w/sound for hours, little cubes are nice, but that's a solid beat that I'd prefer to just have a screensaver of. Yes, a screensaver with sound :P
How badly do you want it?
IBUILTTHAT I believe VLC has an option to play video kinda like a desktop background
Or in this case a screensaver of sound :P

It's so amazing how this music is drawing all of that on an oscilloscope! Imagine showing that music to scientists back in the day when oscilloscopes were in major use. It would BLOW THEIR MINDS
1:35 is my favorite part. sounds tribal/techno and i love it.

Probably the best sounding one of these oscilloscope masterpieces, IMO
This and the 4channel version remain my favorite since I discovered them more than a year ago.
There is something purely great about taking something scientific or logical and adding wowfactor and awesome to it against any normal grain of how people do things. My father has always shown myself the same kind of "tinkering" and I see it here too. He also was blown away to see someone else doing something like this today.
Glad you shared this with us, and wish you the best.
This entire album could fit in a movie like Tron easily
i want a 3d game with this thing. like every graphical line means a sound and it must be this style. and by changing the texture of each block every location would have its own sounding. and the bullets you shoot would be in a shape of some cool sound. and bosses would shoot something different
Yes

I really love the musical buildup created by the visual buildup: not only the melody but the sounds themselves start simple and become more complex as the song goes on.

I think I just discovered the good music from this generation
I think you may well be a genius.
I find it amazing how square waveforms sound "blocky" and how these shapes sound the way they look. And sine waveform sounds smooth like a circle. I know theres probably a scientific explanation for this but it just blows my mind

1:27 my computer when I punch my keyboard too many times
My fav part is 1:37
This and Reconstruction are masterpieces, not because of the great visual/audio cooperation, but because the audio sounds like it's made by a music artist and solely for the purpose of audio pleasure. Bravo my good sir.
but this one is a true banger
Imagine being so skilled you can make a 3d vector animation and good electronic music on the same piece of scientific equipment.
this is hands down one of the coolest things i think ive ever seen or ever will seen

He should make a video entirely with fourth dimensional projections of shapes.
The beauty of science and dedication!!
This video touches all your sensory buttons...OMG.
This would've gotten multiple awards in 1970
This is crazy! Could it actually be possible to play a game of Tetris on an oscilloscope?
The first video games were played on oscilloscopes.
But what did they sound like??
+Kanneh TheGreat Yeah, if you have some audio playing thing hooked up to an oscilloscope that played different sounds with the push of different buttons. Only problem is, it would cost like a few hundred dollars.
No, you could just convert the game to vector and then to sound inside your computer.
Anything is possible on an oscilloscope.
