Padee Yang had a chance to sit down with Cha Yia Lee who for over four decades had volunteered his time and talent whenever he could to serve the Hmong community. He was one of the early Hmong pioneers in acting, music, dance, radio talk shows in Laos.
You can spot Cha Yia emceeing for various events and organizations throughout the years. With a bubbling personality and a youthful smiling face, Cha Yia is always there when it comes to serving his community. A little over a year ago, Doctor told him he had cancer. Even with the bad news, he's still in good spirit and, of course, always with a smile.
We wanted to thank him for taking the time to talk with us. It's such an honor. We thank him for serving the Hmong community. We hope by telling his story will inspire others to do the same. We also wanted to thank Derlee Moua for providing photos used in the interview.

Wow, this is a great story everyone should be listening to. I agree on his missions and visions. I love this part about his life. Very sad about his cancer conditions. He said "Don't be like a rock that stuck same place/spot for life. Follow the river to the main stream into the big ocean". Love it!!!....I am glad I'm not a rock. hehehehe

สิ่งที่ทำน ว่าฝัน มันคือความจริง ความจริงที่ม้งไม่ยอมแก้ ( งานศพ ) แต่อยามั่วโทษวัฒนธรรมเลย ทำไมไม่โทษคนล่ะ ม้งเกิดมามีแต่ความเห็นแก่ตัวหาเงินได้มาเท่าไหร่ก็ใช้เท่านั้น ไม่เคยคิดที่จะเก็บเงินไว้จัดงานศพ ตัวเอง มั่วแต่รอไปตายด่าหน้า ก้ออย่างนี้แหล่ เงินที่เขาบริจาดก็เพื่อจัดงานให้ตัวเอง หากรุ้อย่างนี้แล้วเก็บเพื่อจัดงานศพตัวเอง เงินที่ได้จากการบริจาคก้อให้กับกองทุนการกุสนได้ แต่ม้งหากใช่ไหมเงินที่ได้จากการบริจาค ยังจะไม่พอจัดงานศพด้วยซ้ำ เมื่อไหร่ม้งเก็บเงินจัดงานศพตัวเอง เงินออกเหนื่อจากของตัวเองคือ เงินเพื่อ ม้ง โดยแท้ แต่น่าเศร้า ที่ม้งเห็นแก่ตัวมากไป
