I loved this video. That amp sounds berserk. I gotta admit I prefer a cell phone mic demo over a cab sim’d demo,…. I know, I know,… phone and TH-cam compression, etc,….. but this sounds way closer to what it’s going to sound like when I’m standing in front of it playing. Hey Michael, i got the BE-50 deluxe but from what i hear in a bunchy of videos, while my BE-50 sounds the same, the BE-100 dlx sounds way more heavier and grittier . Its supposed to be the same amp with the cleans being different and the power section. What do you think?
Michael again another awesome video. You have the most useful gear demos. Taking the HBE channel out of the picture, how do you find the Plexi/HB modes compare to the smallbox? Are they nearly identical or have a different feel/voice? Can’t decide which would be best, all the options on the be100 look super useful for fine tuning.
They’re very similar. The BE100 has more heft and authority? Whereas the Smallbox is quicker and leaner (in a good way). I wouldn’t go Smallbox if I wanted to go “Chugga chugga!” But if you’re doing black crows, VH, Lenny Kravitz kinda stuff, the Smallbox is prefert

Awesome video! How do you minimize noise on the p90 guitar. When I have mine plugged in and cranked in my studio it is super noisy! Yours doesnt seem to have any buzz at all. Please share! Keep up the vids. I'm a big hairy fan!!
Thanks! I hear ya. The p90's are THE noisiest! I put a bridge Kinman noiseless p90. It's not quite as nice as the Motor City that came with the guitar, but it's usable
Great demo! However, I think to my ears the low-end might not have been set ideally? As the mids are a bit lost and not fully present? To my ears it all sounds a bit hollow for some reasons. Love Friedman amps and own three of them so far! Cheers!
Michael Britt's Friedman BE profiles for the Kemper are my daily players. They capture these tones really well. I never played a BE but I was in the room at GC when someone else was test driving one and it was just plain huge. Maybe the best hot rodded Marshall style amp out there.

Two questions, which may require more playing time to answer thoroughly, but is there any ground the Smallbox covers that the Deluxe can’t? Well, the small box is smaller and lighter. You can’t crank the nuts out of the plexi channel without annihilating your audience :). The Smallbox has slightly rounder edges, totally speaking. But the BE depth and voice, response switches are great

Well. I LOVE the Clean and Plexi mode on the Bogner. I like the rest. I didn’t get a chance to AB the Bogner and Friedman, but I ALSO love the DLX’s Plexi channel. The Friedman feels more authentically Plexi. The Bogner is a great EL 34 fat warm vibe. Once I get my BE100DLX here, I’ll be able to AB.
Michael Nielsen when I listen to yours Bogner video I like more Bogner gain structure. Friedman is too harsh here in video and too saturated. I like more vintage type of amps but with a lot of gain.
It’s a 1x12 slant Recto cab with v30. Great sounding 1x12. Not so great for recording because they put a wood baffle across the sweet spot for the mic. But it sounds great to listen to. It sounds like a small 4x12. In my studio it’s a 1x12 open back dirty Shirley cab with a Lynchback
So Michael, is there any reason I need to keep my Smallbox or does this now provide everything that the Smallbox has and then some. I suppose there’s still the 50 watt vs. 100 watt factor to justify keeping the Smallbox 🤷♂️ I’ve never owned nor have I even ever played a BE100 but it seems that now it’s possible to have it all in one amazing amp.
Hi Drew! Well, I think the Smallbox has a bit rounder edges than the BE. Like if you listen to Doyle Bramhall’s Smokestack album. Doyle’s 100w sound vs Craig Ross’ 50w sound. Both killer, the 100w just pushes the tone a few inches outward into the sonic spectrum and feels ever so much slightly more quick to respond. But if you like to crank your amp, the Smallbox is certainly easier to get that going. I was about to go Small box as a compliment to my normal BE 100, but the Deluxe ruined that plan.
Man, it does sound great! Love you and Mr A Robert Baker vids. So hard to make decision between Freidman,PT 100 and even Ceriatone Jubilee style.. I love recording through UA Twin . I currently just using a Traynor Ycv 40 with some good Wampler drive pedals . It seems that a 100 watt amp just does everything with ease clean and driven. Any words of wisdom on 40 watt pedal platform versus a Marshallesque. Head?
Hi Zach, I like Traynor amps, and love Wampler pedals, so I’m sure you’re sounding good! I like the Jubilee style, but it’s 1 sound that can be contoured a bit, but it’s a very strong personality for better or worse. The JJ Jr is ridiculously good. And so is PT100.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Amongst all the youtubers, you have the best tone, Hands down!! I hate not seeing you in all those "TH-camr conventions" they make. And regarding the amp vs kid dilema.... You can always make another kid. Just saying! LOL

(really dig the percussive P90 sound 😱💕)

My impression by listening to your demo: Tons of gain, tons of bass, but lacks a lot in the highs. There's no high-end "puch in the face" kind of sound. until 7:34 that part sounded great, until you added more gain, then it sounded muddy again. Maybe I just love that gnarly and aggressive overdriven Marshall tone more than the modern "moded Marshall" Friedman stuff...
The lack of highs, I presume, is because the audio is all being recorded by my iPhone. Some people seem to like a different perspective away from the “studio recording” sound. Check out the demo on the Friedman channel.
I used to think you and Pete Thorn were the same guy... mostly because you both had dark hair and your studios were similar looking... I just thought when I was watching your videos that you hadn't been to the stylist to get a fresh cut in a while... LOL. Friedman has become a modern classic like prs guitars. Thumbs way up to anyone who has a Dreamcast. They pulled the wrong lug too early on that system.
I’ve purchased the be 100 deluxe twice hoping to like it but it’s such a generic sounding amp. Build quality is good but the gain is flubby and dry. If you want this tone just grab a mesa.

Hi Michael! Does the 100 have a extra gain stage over the 50? I noticed that it has 1 more 12ax7 in the preamp.
I think I heard Dave mention that it does not, but I’m not 100% sure on that. I’ll have to look into it

Domagoj Zagorac I can understand that. the Bogner has a signature fat lower mids. The BE isn’t naturally quite as round.
