  • Trunk constantly soaked and leaking in any wet weather: fixed.
    There are quite a few other DIY fixes I plan to complete on this vehicle.

    I think you just saved me from going postal on the skeevy used car dealer I bought my 06 x3 from. I was searching all over I was about to drive it back over torn apart and tell them to take it back. But now I'm almost 100% positive that it's those cups you had illustrated. I'm so glad I found this video!!! Had it for 9 days and have had to replace a list of things just to get it daily ready despite paying full blue book value for it. Still feel like an idiot but if I can stop it from being a swimming pool back there I think I will survive haha!

      Yeah I loved the car but if I could return it I would. The water damage was so bad from these flanges and from water leaking through the door windows. By the time I figured it out my wife never wanted to drive in it because she was afraid of mold inhalation. But I really hope that fixes it up for you!! Fun ride otherwise :)

    Appreciate the video. Followed your advice and cleaned out some leaves, pine needles, and some plastic bits. I didn't test it, but will watch carefully for any water in the back. Your instruction was great and I sure hope it works! I should add that I blew out the drain tubes while I had them disconnected. Super easy.

    Perfect timing. I got the headliner down in the rear but didn’t know how to proceed. I’d been searching TH-cam for a few weeks and finally came across your video.
    13 years of grime and leaf fragments have been removed from the tube and collection “cup” above.
    I suggest adding a few key words to the title or if there is a place for key words when you submit a video- E83 specifically for our 1st gen cars in the title. Perhaps panoramic sunroof since this probably applies to the early X5 too. Thanks very much.

      I am so glad this helped. Im not a mechanic or youtuber by any means but while I was doing this fix the thought of posting a vid kept itching at my noggin.
      Ill add more keywords soon as I get back to my office. Thank you!

    Great information - I've been chasing a leaking E83 for years, too. First, the vapor barriers in the doors and recently the trunk. Thanks for taking the time to post to TH-cam.

    Experiencing same exact issue my 2005 X3. Water in cup left side. Now standing water in battery compartment killing my battery. THANKS!!! 👍😁

      i drilled a small hole in the battery well to stop it from filling up again, not a fix but definitely helps

    Same problem on an F25 X3. Mine is a 2012 model. Started with front foot wells pooling water from blocked sunroof drains. Then after they fixed that the rear trunk got a couple of inches of pooled water in the battery area. Killed the parking brake control module. Mechanic charged me $1800 just to replace the module. I still need to get the leak fixed.

      Yeah I heard the sunroof issue too. The door seals were bad on this one which had my foot wells pooling also. Real pain, sry for your trouble.

    Thank you! Will try this. Knew it had to be coming from the top!

    • @Saverchep
      @Saverchep  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, turns out all windows that open are meant to leak into a compartment that drains the water down a pipe. I never thought about it!

      @wingtheband 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Saverchep I had previously done the door vapor seals and the front drains, didn't think about the back. Funny only the left side was clogged like yours and it was enough to throw battery codes from the standing water. All dry now, thanks again!

    Great video, what’s the best way to clean out that grate/collection area you described?

    • @Saverchep
      @Saverchep  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!
      At first i had to reach over and just clean it with my fingers. Then i tried using a compressor to blow it all out and it splattered everywhere. But that did clean it up nice :)

    I'm having the same troubles. How did you get the headliner down? Mine is sealed on pretty tight. Is it prone to tearing?

    • @Saverchep
      @Saverchep  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah its kinda a risky situation if youre not careful, the fabric is a bit fragile and did get pretty tattered when I pulled it down. But basically grab a flat head screwdriver and put it between the headliner and rubber seal. Then just slowly slide it along the headliner prying it out as you go. Hope that helps!

      @@Saverchep thanks! I also unscrewed the side panel and that helped a lot. BTW, I got it to drain properly! Now I've got some cleaning up to do.

    Did you also have water in your battery compartment? I had about 2 inches of water there and now my navigation system does not turn on

    • @Saverchep
      @Saverchep  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep I had about one inch, none on the electronics side compartment though. Ever since fixing these hoses I haven't had water in the trunk at all.

    • @wingtheband
      @wingtheband 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had water in the battery tray too. Everything comes apart easy just be careful with the side panel clips.

      @@wingtheband if you drill a small hole in the battery well, it will at least stop it from filling up around the battery.
