      Nice way to describe that coward overclock :)

    • @beatnik09
      @beatnik09 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Yeah, was disapointed that he backed it down to 4.4 GHz. Should have gone for at least 5. It's $3500, use the power!

    • @murphyhandy
      @murphyhandy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Meanwhile I read the settings aren't really applied until restarting, so the 6.1 GHz don't actually mean anything.

      That software wasn't actually applying that overclock, trust me. Would have instantly bluescreened, even past the 4.4. Only the top 19% of those chips can even do 4.4 stable.

    • @Fizzgg
      @Fizzgg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might have been on purpose? In the live build he mentioned that one of the cards was not his. "Kyle's is on the bottom", IIRC. He might have bent his top card slightly to mark it. It can be bent back into shape, so I think this is probably the case.

  • @b3mmster
    @b3mmster 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Paul, are you getting any coil whine or buzzing from the 1080s on this setup? I have literally the same exact parts except in a thermaltake core p5 and a custom EK water setup. The system is dead quiet, and because of that I can really hear some coil whine/buzzing from the 1080s. I ended up swapping out the EVGA FTW cards for the Asus Strix cards, and still have the same buzzing. It's not super loud, but the system is so quiet on the water cooling that you can def hear it.
    On another note, the Asus strix 1080s i was able to overclock much higher than the EVGA FTW cards. I'm over 2200MHz on the Strix and could barely get over 2000MHz on the FTW cards.

    I'm in the process of designing a system to edit 4k footage on. Would this system be good for that assuming I only used one GTX 1080? I edit in Premiere Pro CC with a bit of After Effects work too. The two areas I am most confused with is the drive configuration. Some argue that a Samsung M.2 drive is best for programs and OS, others say save the fastest drive for raw footage? Also, which of the 1080 GTX cards are going to be best for video editing? I don't want to go for a Titan or a Quadro. With so many options I was looking at an EVGA but I am not sure which would be best model. Budget is flexible but what I am trying to avoid is spending money unnecessarily and getting little or no return in performance. Any help would be really appreciated.

    I also had a rogue Asus AI Suite take my friend's 6600k to 4.9 on 2 cores and 4.8 on the other two, pulled the plug and went into the bios and set it to 4.5

    How do you know what cases will suit what you are building? Also why did you go with the dual GPU's?

    I just built a similar system with an EVGA FTW K, 6850k, Corsair H100i v2, 64GB DDR3200, EVGA 1000W PSU, and 2 GTX1080 Founders Cards paired with 3x Gsync 27" 144hz Dell Panels.
    I returned the 2x1080s after 7 days since DX12 games were not running stable (Tomb Raider crashed every 20mins). I was also getting strange stutter and some other annoyances across the 3 panels (with the HB SLI Bridge from Nvidia). Interested to see how your experience turns out in actual gaming. It benchmarks well...
    Great work system though.
    I ended up going with a Titan XP to give room for 2way SLI further down the road and to avoid the minor (but annoying) stability issues now with SLI. Also returned the 3x Dell panels for an Asus ROG PG348 - not as immersive as 3x 144hz panels, but still smooth. The Dell monitors had a strange whine - no idea why, but turning up brightness was the only way to get them to quiet down.
    Thanks for your reviews - great channel. One of few I actually subscribe for.

    I'm building a rig with this board. What's the best ram speed for the 6850k? 6 ghz auto overclock. That's crazy!

    I have a really bizarre question - will that ASUS Dual Intelligent Processor software automatically stop stress testing if the processor gets too hot?

    If I were to be streaming a game like Arma 3, would a i7-6700k be a good processor with a 1080 or should I go with the 6800k with the 1080?

    11:22 mins ? I have the same cards, 2x FTW 1080 and i7 6770k + H100i v2 Question ? Is it nescessary to watercooled, if i have the same air flow case ? Will my compoments live long life without watercooling ? Thanks :)
