As a rather large boobed lady, I'm seriously considering making some short stays to wear on the daily rather than putting up with hot, sweaty, uncomfortable synthetic bras!
I was just imagining how comfortable that linen would be. The heatwave that's gripping the US is horrid. Menopause and hot flashes makes me wish for winter 😂
@@sinndymorr6358 I've heard that clothing back then was much more breathable due to less synthetic fabrics, so I feel like it would have been better back then than with today's fabrics!
The way that stays seem to distribute the weight of supporting a larger chest across the torso definitely seems like it would be worth trying? A lot of modern bras seem to hang most of the weight off the shoulders on fairly narrow straps, which can definitely pinch nerves and cause significant pain.
You know those stays look far more comfy than a normal bra. When your a bit large the bras are always uncomfortable. And dig in here and there. That looks so much more comfortable.I loved the whole outfit it’s exquisite as always, and your husband looks like a fine gentleman too lol!
It doesn't matter what size you are, stays are more comfortable. I'm not large in any direction & my husband has commented on how my bra straps don't look comfortable on my shoulders. Yup, modern bras. I made myself 1780s stays & 1810s stays which distribute weight much better (i.e. not on your shoulders). They're a pain to get in & out of, and the 1810s stays require my husband to help me, otherwise I would wear them more often.
I love the sense of humour you and Lucas share! Always really fun seeing how the couples' outfits work together ❤️ The colour scheme of this was very reminiscent of the 1995 Pride & Prejudice miniseries! Huge kudos for the patience involved in applying all the piping, double piping, and ribbon decoration on the spencer jacket, I can only imagine how many hours of close detail work that involved 😵
I wish this type of pride in our appearance would make a return in public life. Especially fashion for men seems to have suffered in elegance and sophistication through the ages. Thank you for showing us lovely clothes and beautiful style and setting!
If I had needed my husband to help me dress for our wedding we never would have made it to the church on time 30 years ago. Heck, we're still sometimes late for engagements when I ask him to zip my dress! You two look wonderful!
A lovely couple, indeed! Just in time for summer, my local fabric source, closed their business. There goes my access to cotton fabrics. Shopping for ready made items, in natural fabrics, is a big challenge. I am admiring the linen fabrics that you two are wearing. Blessings!
Oh no... I feel your pain! 😭 (Can't wear synthetics or woollens due to skins sensitivities). Hope you are able to find a reliable online source that is not too super-expensive!
Its so very pleasant to while away twenty minutes or so to go back in time with you. I have to shake my old head at the end to lift myself out of historical reverie. Thank you!
Oh, Izabela, what a wonderful video! I love how you always set a scene for your videos, whether it's a story like here or illustrated with a beautiful picture from the past. And Lucas is a very talented 'maidservant' - he's definitely a keeper!!! Thank you!
nicely done. Gotta laugh at regency romance. Those clothes just fall away at the first embrace. Looks like considerably more "foreplay" would be involved. haha.
The costume shop at my college theater had a cartoon pinned to the wall of a couple in full 17th-century court dress. The woman is saying “I’m in the mood now, but by the time we get our things off I probably won’t be.”
Always love it when we get both Izabela AND Lucas together in a video! 🥰 It's interesting seeing how the clothing styles of the various eras work together as couples, and they are indeed very cute & funny as a duo! 😊
That was charming. I just discovered your channel. I mentioned the name to my son. He replied, "If they are available to engage, they could be Prior Attire for Hire." ;-)
Beautiful wedding- fast or not! I loved the embroidery you showed us (that you said you didn't do yourself). Perhaps it was machine stitched? Either way, it was lovely being white on white. His outfit was quite handsome. I liked that you coordinated your colors, too!
@@jahirareyes1102 That's because you saw the modern day historical drama renditions made by costume designers. The actual poor wore hand me downs and tatters.
Shocking goings on! Would the groom have worn gloves Too? I love the riding habits very much as well. I'm returning to riding after many years away and really want to do sidesaddle.
i love videos with you and lucas together! i have a question about the colors though. you're both wearing white, but i remember reading that white wasn't worn at weddings until queen victoria popularized it in the 1840s. would regency era wedding clothes have been white, or is this particular set just white because it's summer?
White was a popular colour for everyday wear , balls, dances, weddings etc. you could wear whatever you wanted really, most people wore clothing they would be reusing. My outfits are not wedding specific at all, just everyday clothes
Yeah, this was the "little white dress" era when it was a standard everyday attire, and originally, quite scandalous (not the innocent pure vibes we envision)
Good to see you again and thank you for this lovely video! Was it your wedding anniversary, is this how you celebrated? In any case, you both look gorgeous ☺
I assume that the common pseudo-historical fantasy trope of a well-to-do young woman not having any idea how her clothing works would be nonsense? (i.e. you get someone who always had servants to dress her, and she is unable to figure out what needs to be done to get dressed, not just that she can't do it all by herself).
@@priorattire Yes, thank you. I do know what a hasty wedding is. This was a tongue in cheek comment based on the length of time it used to take to don one's attire!
Ive always loved fashion and historical fashion, i sewed alot of my own clothes as a teenager, in the autumn of 1995 the bbc showed their adaptation of pride and prejudice, i had a regency inspired wedding dress made for me and for my bridesmaids the following year, very different from the meringue styles of the day, i like to be different x
Regency 'empire line' dresses is one of those styles that has never really gone away? I feel like one could 'stealth' historical dress much more easily in that, esp. if not keen on adding a bonnet... In comparison to 1400s or 1830s fashion for example, which looks so much more startling to a modern eye! 😆
Without prying too deeply what's stopping you? Both myself and my wife have been wearing period clothing for a number of years now, I'm 61 and my wife is .... mumble mumble .....
I Would like to know where do you get your material from because it is beautiful please let me know if you have the time. Please and thankyou for your time.
Bouquet was provided for us- but it is mostly local meadow/ hedge flowers ( foxgloves, cow parsley, ivy, grasses) and roses, so something you’d be able to pick up even then
I’m curious, for those without help in this time period, would it have been common for the husband to lace up his wife? I mean surely it came up on occasion.
idk if it was done in that period as well but ive seen people lace themselfs into a corset. It looked pretty easy, you just need to be able to reach your back. once you got the end of the string you just pull outwards/to your sides and wiggel a it a bit. If you can reach you can pull stuff that got stuck free.
I really really do want to watch this but I'm having a hard time with auditory processing lately and all of the hard surfaces reflecting sound or making it unintelligible for me. When you do these could you please consider laying out some fabric especially if there is hardwood flooring to dull the sound a bit. I do love your work 💙
Please let your husband have some screen time! You enjoy the camera and I like watching what goes into the dressing up of centuries past, but your poor husband doesn't get a look in! I am also interested in what the men used to wear, so please draw breath and let your gorgeous husband take center fold for once! Or at least let him have more time to show and tell... The other day I watched one of you, where you said that there are quite a few people copying you with period dressing up, but none of them are anywhere near as good as you. You have your own unique style and express yourself with confidence, so long may you reign!

19th century. Beginning. Every dress was sewn under the bust. But women still wore many of these petticoats. And men also wore such short breeches.
Shameless, running off like that. You'll end up in the Workhouse, Prison, or transported to New South Wales.

Your chemises, do you reuse them for all periods or do you have to sew new ones for every period?
depends on the style = some 18th can work with early 19th, some medieval can stretch to tudor, but generally all in the same time period.
