  • Amedeo Modigliani initially achieved acclaim as a representational artist, finding inspiration in the artistic styles of Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Cézanne, cubism, and Picasso's blue period. During the years of 1916 and 1917, Modigliani produced a renowned collection of 30 paintings, known as his iconic series of nudes. These captivating artworks portray the models in diverse positions, whether seated, standing, or reclining, while presenting an idealized depiction of the human figure in its bare form.

Jean suicide killing her unborn child in the process because her father wouldn’t love them was the most tragic affair I had ever known.

The guide speaking in French in the background is very distracting and unnecessary. It was hard to hear the person narrating and I had to stop watching this video.

I agree, sometimes I think these people who were supported by their parents were self-indulgent, didn't have to work for a living and ushered in an excuse for art that is bad so they can keep their lifestyle while shaming everyone who sees their talent is lacking. The era of ugly started in that time period.

So sad to see how brilliant he was in his early years to degenerate into copying his contemporaries- his drug and alcohol abuse so obvious in his loss of care and skill

What's wrong with making it so the visually impaired can enjoy the documentary too? Or just people who listen while working or cooking or cleaning? It's basically a podcast with pictures. But you seemed to imply making a documentary that the visually impaired can enjoy too somehow takes your enjoyment away from it? You can't listen and look at the same time?

@@MarkTravisMusicPage he's implying that it isn't good it's only celebrated because other people celebrate it. Which isn't far off. Picasso was completely ignored in his lifetime and it was only his brother and sister-in-law's constant marketing of him and the fact they owned a respected art gallery that made him what he is today. If they hadn't marketed him so heavily or if they hadn't owned a respected art gallery. His work probably wouldn't have survived or at the very least it would be ignored today. They basically managed to use marketing to convince everyone his work is good.
And that happened with many of these painters. Their work is objectively ugly. Which doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. Some people like things that look ugly. That's why chihuahuas are such a popular pet. But cubism especially and all of the related art styles are extremely simple. They're simplified on purpose. BUT it shouldn't be worth as much money as something that is far more complicated and difficult to draw. That's why modern art has such a bad reputation because it's so simple even a child could do it. No one can tell me that something like this has the same artistic value as something that takes a massive amount of talent to create.
