Thanks for the video. A very thorough inventory of how to play Crokinole. The rules you have laid out agree with those written up by the National Crokinole Association, including the one-cheek rule. There has been one minor addition made recently, the 'spinning disk rule' which says that if a disk stays on the board crossing or touching the start line but is still spinning and comes to rest inside the start line, it counts as a valid disk and is not removed to the ditch. A minor point but if you play enough crokinole, it'll happen and you might just need that nickel to win or keep your opponent from having a free shot at the centre.
I bought a crokinole set for my family for christmas. Presents haven't been opened yet and I'm getting educated with your video before the excitement begins. thanks bro!
Takes me back to my childhood. My grandmother was from Canada and knew the game but it was unknown on the Alabama coast so she had my uncle make a game.I grew up thinking it was the only crokinole board in the world.
Crokinole seems to still have a very loyal following over the years in provinces like Manitoba and states like North Dakota. It's really a great game; plenty of strategy, skill, and action, all on a simple tabletop board.
When I carve out some storage space, I think I'll buy a great-quality crokinole table and both discs and rings (some people still play with rings, right?), then see if I have any takers for a few games. Part of me wants to jazz up the game with tons of ridiculous additions, like elastic rebounds, more scoring areas, magnetic gimmickry, and ramps to higher levels made of clear Lucite. (All of them inspired by pinball, of course.) It would be a complex mess, but might be fun after a few beers. (Oh, and small cuesticks would be allowed.)
Played it for the very first time yesterday. Fun game. I'm getting one for our family. The guys who introduced it to me weren't too sure of the rules so thanks for explaining.
Having spent considerable time in pubs, clubs, taverns and bars around our great land how has this game escaped my awareness? It shall grace my game room sooner than later.
Like why the fuck would try to make this racial?? Give this race shit a break, in case you haven’t noticed the world does not evolve around blacks. Get over yourself fruitcake
we always played that rule but it could also pass through the 15 circle and land on the 10 or 5 and be good..If it only reached the line that was no good
Fun fact, less people have watched this than people have watched the Crokinole championships meaning more people watch Crokinole than know how to play it.
That was a great video very informative and gave me the knowledge I need to to know. Great video but this game is blowing up right now I don't see the attraction. Guess I'll have to try it out and go from there
There was one uestion I was looking to be answered but it wasn't..The first shot of the game has to go into the 15 area or at least be touching the 15 line..But if you have a clear board on your 3rd 4th or whatever shot..can you put it in the 10 or 5
Rose Strohm Nothing in this video is pseudoscience. Melodysheep makes clear that his time lapse is only a possible path the future may take. He states multiple time that many things are still unknown, and further research and discovery is needed. Pretty much the polar opposite of pseudoscientific thought.
Crokinole is the best sport because there is literally a rule stating you MUST remain seated while playing. 😁 Anyhow, good job. The only thing you missed was the spinning disc rule - if a disc touches or crosses the outer line but ends up back inside it without going into the gutter, it stays in play. It happens sometimes when a disc goes up on its side and rolls or spins ALMOST into the gutter.
Awesome game. I guess constant rotation, no time do you shoot more than once? Similar to shuffleboard, block is part of the strategy. 56 years old, been in to many bars and never saw a board like that. Looks like great fun. Is there time between shots like chess? Do you have a guess on time the game lasts, do people just sit & pop all 20's??
Sir , Great video. I would like to know if I can hit the bars in the center first , use it like the wall in the carrom board to bounce to the direction I want to knock off the opponents disc from 15 circle or like I'm only allowed to hit the opponents disc directly to knock it to the gutter ?! Thank you.
Excellent video. I have only one question. I understand that you have to get into the 15 circle when there are no disks on the table and you have to hit the oppoent's disk if they have one on the table. What if the only disks on the table are your own? Still have to get in the 15 circle?
When the disk is on the line, how much of the disk decides in which circle it goes for points? If its half-half does it go to 15 or 10? If it touches the line just a tiny bit, does it go down to the lower ring? And if the disk touches the last circle for just a tiny little bit, does it go in the gutter? Thanks for helping me. =)
Once the discs have all been shot discs touching a line are scored according to the lesser value i.e. 10-15 line = 10, 5-10 line =5, start line = ditch 0.
A slightly quicker way to do scoring would be to grab all of the opposing pairs that match (one black 5 + one white 5, one black 20 + one white 20) and discard them since they cancel out, then do the math from there. Great video, btw. Saw a competition video online...good to see the rules. I noticed these boards can run in the hundreds of dollars to buy. Are there any recommended DIY videos for home-builds?
Hi, and thank you for your video ! There is just one case missing in your rules, and I am not sure how to handle this : If it is your turn, and there are only one/multiple of your disks, i assume you could just try to score more points, there is no need for you to touch anything else ?
Since noone answered. No, no touching involved. But the center rule remains. As does touching other discs while failing. So you can nudge another disc in the center, it's ok. But if you nudge a disc out of the center for example, and both ( or more ) moving discs end out of the 15 line, all are removed from the board.
One of your discs has to move into or onto the line of the 15 circle. It doesn't have to be the shooter, it may even be a disc that was already on the line, but one disc involved in your shot must satisfy that 'shooting for the center' rule when there are no opposing discs on the board.
Just started playing, can anyone answer these questions? 1)Without any opponent's disk on the board, if you hit one of ur disk that's on the board and it makes it in the hole but the shooting disk doesn't make it in the 15 line, are both disk out? 2) can u only shoot with hand or can u rotate using ur left and right hand depending on the shot?
If you bump or combo one of your discs into the center hole that will satisfy the 'shooting to the center' requirement and therefore your shooting disc also remains on the board. (And you have probably left your opponent with a pretty tough shot to follow.)
What happens if you are 6-7 shots into the game, there are no black discs on the board and it’s the white teams turn? White team won’t have a black disc to hit, does white then just have to get their disc into the 15 point circle?
If the opponent has no discs on the board and you have one, you take a shot and it touches your disk but it doesn't land on the inner circle, are both your disks out?
Ok, so what happens in this scenario? At the beginning of black player's turn and there are no white coins on the board? Does that black player flick a coin, not hit a white coin, then get his coin guttered? Or does it just count as a free shot?

Great video. I love Crokinole, I was wondering how they scored tournaments thanks for the info. Now I'm going to go sink some 20 shots.
"Black" vs "natural"
What you tryna say?
Saucey Noodle ya I knew it
Its bc the pieces are made of wood. One set of pieces are painted black, the other set are left in their natural color.
@@7zaxo Looks like natural wood on my screen? Plus to him they wouldn't look white.
That you're so politically correct that you think of skin color when clearly the person is talking about how to play a game.

Why didn't they practice the signature kissing on the mouth??
Great explanation. Thanks for the video.
"The center hole here is called the center hole"...Mmm, useful!! I'm getting one.
The black disks, and... (pulls out white disk) ...the natural disks
Alden Legge I'm here because of Critikal and that made me die
They aren't white, they are wood and unpainted
He says white later in the vid a few times.
I love how everyone thought the same about the "natural" disks, haha. Regardless, thanks for the explanation!
@@marcussommer004 but he also called them clear

Thanks. It is more complicated than I thought.

Very excellent instructional video for game play. You might consider monitoring the comments beneath your video that are unrelated to the game.
This video made me crave for a Cronkicola.
I hate when you watch a video on your recommended feed to get rid of it but it stays there and spawns more
Great game... only thing we do differently is use 4,3,2,1 for point values and play to 20. Use pegs to score. Nice video.
It's weird that no two videos on how to play the game has the same rules.
I was taught a little different
That was a great video very informative and gave me the knowledge I need to to know. Great video but this game is blowing up right now I don't see the attraction. Guess I'll have to try it out and go from there
Invented in Tavistock Ontario Canada, 15 mins away from home!
Very clearly explained. Thanks.
Very gud work here man. Ive never played this b4
One of the teachers at my school is national champ in crokinole, so that's why I am here🤣

You can hit off the pegs. All that matters is that their disk moves.

So what gives if your shooting and there are (only) your discs on the board? Thx
If the only discs on opponent side is on the 10 ring, do u have to just hit one of them.. or do u have to hit it and make it into the 15 area?
what if you have mutliple discs of your team on the board and none of the opponent and do you stil need to flick it into the center ring?
Did u find the answer? I have the same question
Jeroen VW yes, you have a free shot at the 20 hole
What happens if you're at a situation with only your teams discs on the board and it's your turn?
picsmics4 my guess is it’s a free shot at the center, u only have to hit the opponents disk when it’s out there
But what about the rumor that you get cancer from the powder?
When the disk is on the line, how much of the disk decides in which
circle it goes for points? If its half-half does it go to 15 or 10? If
it touches the line just a tiny bit, does it go down to the lower ring?

Once the discs have all been shot discs touching a line are scored according to the lesser value i.e. 10-15 line = 10, 5-10 line =5, start line = ditch 0.
So if you miss, you shot again? Or does the other player/team shoot?
Did somebody ring the dinkster?

why is tournament scoring counted as "2" points per game (up to 8), why not 1 point and up tp 4 ?
Haven’t read any comments but I feel there are gonna be commenters saying the “natural” disk name is racist
I don't own nor have I ever heard of this game, why am I here rn 😭
What if puck is not fully laid flat in the middle??

Crazy Legz shoots for centerhole or potentially sets a gaurd for strategy
My Mom said not to play near Gutter.😢
Where can I buy this board that you’re using
My parents had a board and I never knew what it was.
mhmm yes, I am well versed on the single cheek rule.
What happens if it's your shot and there are no opponent chips, but you do have chips on the board? Does your shot have to be in the 15 ring?
yes indeed, the discs that where touched at least one has to end at the 15 line as does your starting shot. At least those are the tournament rules.
If the opponent has no discs on the board and you have one, you take a shot and it touches your disk but it doesn't land on the inner circle, are both your disks out?
If neither disc ends up in the 15 circle or at least touching the line, yes, sadly, tragically, they must both be removed.
Ok, so what happens in this scenario? At the beginning of black player's turn and there are no white coins on the board? Does that black player flick a coin, not hit a white coin, then get his coin guttered? Or does it just count as a free shot?
Also, I should add that it is a few turns in so black player has a few black coins on the board.
