- Changing the surface of the Roto Grip Clone was a game changer! Went from a bowling ball that was clean and pretty angular to STRONG and smooth!

I bought the Clone because I needed more curve in a ball. Another reason was, in league play, I was tired of searching for my ball in a sea of balls that looked alike. The Clone stands out. After a few practice sessions I decided to take the shine down with a 2000 grit pads and I got the results I needed for my throw I still need more time with the ball but, so far, I'm happy with my purchase.
i just got one today i wanted a gem but the price needs to come down and the clone was on sell
Super helpful video. Helped me figure out possible solutions to some issues I'm having with my equipment! Keep up the great work and good luck this year!
Thanks so much!!
I follow Luke’s suggestion of resetting the surface on every ball I get. That way I can replicate that finish when it needs a full resurface. On polished stuff, I use a 1000 pad on a spinner then Step 2 compound.
Interesting on the polished stuff, using 1000 then step 2, where’s that usually take it to??
I’ve been hitting everything with 2000 out of box as starting point
@@shannonkirby7040 I don’t have a scanner, but I imagine it takes it above 4000, but the 1000 base gives the ball some teeth. Luke Rosdahl says the gloss finish from the factory can make balls go too long. I’m fairly speed dominant so I stuff that’s super polished doesn’t work for me normally.
Yea I been doing that as well !
I just had my new Clone drilled this morning (13#). My first ball after not bowling for 40yrs was the UFO. Loved it until its status. The Clone reacted well today. League tonight, TOC in 2weeks. Great video.
Bowl well !!
I've been looking for this type of video. Luis always makes the banger vids
Thanks so much!! I appreciate that!
Lol I loved the red light and green light LOL 🤣
IMHO the polish on the clone is what makes this ball so versatile (medium, dry and over/under) and first out of bag when transition hits. If I knock off the polish then it's just like most of the other balls I have in my bag.
It’s def a good one
I liked the reaction you were getting with the surface you put on it. I change the surface on the balls I have , but several time I do not notice a big change in the reaction, unless it a huge change as you did here. Going from a 3000 surface to a 1000 , I have very little reaction change. Keep up the great work.
I prefer it with polish I think!
I usually scratch up the surface, even before I throw the ball out of box. Thanks Luke! I prefer using CTD Trucut pads and scanner so i know what surface I have on the ball.
youre spending all that $$$ for factory finish might as well enjoy it a few games before lane shine imo
Yup!
Interesting video. I usually always throw out of box because not really sure of what I want the ball to do versus orb. But enjoy the videos. Have not seen many responses from you on questions that bowlers ask
I throw out of box surface myself because I figure they made the ball like that for a reason
What kinda questions?
Not sure as this was three months ago. Like where you stand and why you move. I am sure these are questions you have answered and as a bowler I should know them Just curious
I NOW change the surface immediately if I can to whatever grit it supposed to come at. If polish, I use CTD polish. However, I got my clone Saturday. I tried it with polish, I didn't like it. Then tried it with 3000... 245 game! So then I put polish back on it, it was okay. I'm going to try 4000 next. My Summit is straighter, the Clone shapes better.
I been doing that lately as well
Actually, it might have looked good straighter if you had been warmed up. Once you loosened up your speed and release looked better. Like the Clone, and glad you did the surface change. Both Barnes and Rosdahl liked it better with less or no polish. Btw, I have friends that will throw the first ball of practice (at about half speed) and start whining that the lanes are hooking, or they are oikly, or whatever. My first shot, I'm just trying to get the knees to bend, and the ball to get off my hand clean, and loosen my old muscles.
Yeah, no reason to whine about shots when you're not warmed up. My problem is I strike all through practice and then fall apart in the games. 😂😂
I can agree with rjay$
I will definitely give it a week or two with polish to get a true reaction for my specific house conditions. However, I still haven't found a ball where the polish stays on yet.
Update: As expected, gave the polish one night in league. Like every other ball, the polish was taken off and it was immediately a more consistent reaction.
Heard that! 💯💯
I try it out of box then make the adjustments i hate reactor gloss so on my duo i had to dull it to 2000 then polish it back up rolls way better for me now so have to do that with all balls that have reactor gloss
I usually re polish my stuff
Wow, what a difference a surface makes! Your ball reviews are better now, hope to see you in the comments again. Your medium spin, medium speed roll is everything us league players could hope to accomplish.
HUGE difference’
This ball looks super amazing either way great video
Thanks so much!
Great bowling content
Thanks so much!!
Good video Luis . I hit my clone with a used 1000 pad . Im going to throw it in practice and see if it works for me. I will reset the surface if it doesn't. League will start the 24th of August.
Thanks!!
Always always always throw with the out of box finish until I know how the ball is going to roll in the conditions I'm most likely to encounter and adjust as needed.
It’s just easier to replicate if you do it before drilling
What is you go to pearl for strength? I just had the stealth pearl with a strong layout and it was not great. Looking at the exotic, eternity, or paragon pearl
VEBO!
For me. I would reset the surface with 1000 or 1500 and then re-polish it with a mild drill since it’s so strong. good vid . Thanks.
Good idea!
If a new ball is polished I leave it alone out box till I see how I like its reaction and then may take down the surface. If its matte oob I usually hit it w whatever # grit it says it is to make sure I can repeat it. If I keep a ball say at 2000 I'm refreshing it w a TruCut pad every 3-9 games. My Alert got little use at oob polish but its a fantastic fresh ball for me at 1000 grit. I usually bring a mixture of polish and matte balls w me.
I can see that yea
I missed it in the video. What surface did the shop knock it back to?
2000
Cool video talk tech bowling bowling ball roto grip clone bowling ball with nano technology in the bowling ball more strike and spare hitting power at time Luis
Are you an npc why you keep yipping & yapping about bowling video buzz words?
Thanks so much!!
@@LuisNapoles your welcome
Where is the snap, looked like the magic gem
once i get mine im knocking the polish off it, if i leave it on then the exotic gem and the clone gonna be too similar, i didnt like the gem so hopefully the clone fits that spot sanded
Both are good but I prefer the polish on it
I like it better out of box
Me too!
I polish the heck out of my Reality and put 3k on my zen, I love making changes on my balls.
Nice!!
I like mine out the box 📦
Same!
Since i throw just spi equipment
I get it
your first shot, i thought it was going to be gutter
Glad it didn’t lol
Can you do a dna clone comparison please
I need to yea!
maybe throw some Step 2 on it?
Definitely
Shouldn't you always want to keep your ball in the pattern/oil?
Lesson to be learned never judge a ball when you're not throwing it the best cause those first few were terrible, you never get your balls out like that. You would've retired that ball lol and would've cracked on the shelf !
