    When you raise the ground, you can aim at the corner of one of your raised "pillars" and click once using the "raise ground" setting to get the ground next to it at the same height, instead of starting from the ground again and wasting a lot more stone. Like so people can see this!

    • @dra6o0n
      @dra6o0n 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not useful for making bridges across the waters, apparently there is a max height in oceans that is hard to pull off unless you use cheats to go under water, even then can't raise ground if the water blocks the camera (literally your camera glitches out if you fly under the water and tried to mine or raise ground).
      A stack of 40 stone is enough to make a 10m wall of raised ground if a pillar is already made. You could even make a plateau.

    Thanks for a really good visual on moating and wall defenses. Yesterday was crazy - in the middle of the day I was at my main camp in a meadow. Saw something large move and said - crap - it's a troll! In a meadow!. Went to attack it and then saw there was another right behind it. Crap! And, then a third! Bad day. Anyway, I eventually led them away and killed them but, WTF during the day in a meadow!? First time that's ever happened 100 days in. Also, don't ever make the mistake of hitting ESC to go to menu then step away from the game for a few hours! Came back and I was being attacked by a shaman and tons of chest were wiped.....

    I just started playing this game 3 days ago. Yes trolls do get in the water or spawn in the water, but they will come after you, If you are in the water they will come after you. Lets just say they were not programed to solve problems. Once you get over the fright of " Holy Shitballs There's a Troll ! You can kite them pretty easy. I had one knock down half the forest for me. When your biggest opponent becomes annoying it's time to take a break. Yesterday 6 trolls spawned at about 20 minute intervals.
    I love the fact that you can take things to other maps. I do a lot of map jumping. I get ore from one map, berries and plants from another, Wood from some random map. I love the portals too, the only thing you can't take through it is ore and metal bars. But wood, yeah i load up on wood, used the port, chunk it and do it all over again. My son and I play together, I have crappy internet but he doesn't, So we end up talking to each other on Discord while we play our single player games. Once in a while We will trade with each other, we have a common map, We both log in and put things in chests for each other. I gave him 2 stacks of troll hide he gave me two stacks of berries for my boars. Works out well for me. In turn he shares the hides with his buddies, and they give me gold coins in return. I wish I could play with them but my internet is a step above dial up. I paid 1100 dollars for a computer to play games, and can't play games with friends because Centurylink horrible and won't chip in the extra 2 million to run new lines out to my house. If I could get better internet I would have it. In a heart beat. But the only provider in my area is centurylink, yes I have a hotspot on my phone , Do you know how fast I can eat up 30 gigs of high speed internet... about 3 hours if the download is big enough. Other wise it lasts about 10 days watching video's on you tube. Netflixs about one day, I do know that this game can eat about 6 gigs in two hours. I know that's all I had left, on my phone. But March 1 st is just around the corner.
    I found a away to tame boars easily. I make a corral with a V neck , I piss it off, and run like hell, when he runs in I block the end and jump the fence, the boar can't get out, now sneak up to the fence throw berries in and done. All you need to do now is wait. I throw in about 10 just to make sure they have plenty of food, they will tame even if you are not on that map. The only thing I have to complain about is the rain. Everyday it falls a flood. I finally built a pavilion so I could keep working while the game tried to simulate the whole Noah's ark scene. Sorry for the long post, I've only seen two real live people in a year.... Just two people... I'm going nuts at this point.

    Weird stuff started happening in Valheim for me after 1 year in game. Goblins spawning in different areas like on top of mountains, massive packs of wolves and drakes. So I decided to just move to a huge plains area. Raise ground around the area with a shit ton of stone and make a castle. Portals seems to stop spawning but from what me and friends have experienced after 200 hours. Putting workbenches down doesn't stop goblins spawning. Raise a small wall around the shore get a portal down and cultivate the land. Then just keep farming stone and get your plains castle.

Glad I didn't completely waste my time building that moat. Would have been salty to put all that time into only to find that enemies can just ignore it or something.

    You can put the spiked walls along the edge to catch any bigger mobs that may glitch across the moat gap. Also be warned you can get assaulted by wyverns layer on as you beat more boss's.
    I still would recommend making a home base on a map that has no boss's delt with, the enemy swarms that attack are based on the boss's you beat and mounted on the stones. No boss's just has forest animals attack, simple enough and they are repelled by simple standing torches as they still fear fire. I have 1-2 standing torches on each side of my base (its 8 wide and 12 long, standing torches seem to have a very large range to them) and the animals rush in, get close, then flee in fear from the fire. Rather amusing to watch. Use another world for boss fights and gathering items that only spawn after boss's are downed. Found this out the very hard way and opted to make a new world with no intent to beat any boss's in it and relocate the base there.

  • @SoggyTreks

    I don’t recommend putting water in the moat. When you kill mobs they can’t get knocked in and when you kill mobs near the moat their loot gets knocked in. Plus if you build then destroy near the moat your stuff can fall in moat. If it is filled with water you have limited time based on your stamina to rescue yourself. I put a ladder in my moat and kept it pretty dry. I saw you placing stakes. That is a great idea. Just remember when they hit a mob or you they take tons of damage and need to be repaired a lot.

  • @dra6o0n

    You don't really need a moat if you take worktables and raise ground really high up and place them all around your base. The range they cover disallow mobs to spawn near them.
    Monsters only spawns outside the vicinity of players in active cells on the map, so the bigger the border of despawners, the safer it is.
    It's basically like littering lots and lots of torches on the map to respawn mobs in Minecraft.

Lost my first raft that way and my second Karve lol The water in the moat seems to be a "water table" type mechanic. Closer to the water means you can't dig as deep but I've been 12 layers down near a mountain and still no water before hitting bedrock. I'm working on digging a canal and the water fill makes it a Pain cause ya can't dig deep enough for the Long ship to not beach itself with the water making you float =( but it's a WIP so fun times. Hearth, brazier, wolf rug, lox rug, dragon bed, and raven chair can bring you to 24. Also upgrade your troll armor and learn to do sneak attacks. With the building the catwalk on the inside of your walls, you can make it look better by aligning your floor/ ceiling tile to the wall itself to fill holes. It will overlap the tile you already previously placed just fine.

  • @drexluxx7626
    @drexluxx7626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    you can overlap building assets.. its how to make cylinder towers.. so try overlapping stone or floor in spiral or circle. it is very forgiving and thats how connect ur angles

    Put the defensive spikes on the dirt lip at the bottom of your walls. Snap them to your walls.
    Yes, it's still called a moat whether there's water or not. No water it's a dry moat.

  • @FoxVelox222
    @FoxVelox222 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can rotate the platforms for the wall and they don't look so shitty with gaps and stuff when you change angles.

    When you build a moat like you did here, build it on an open hill surrounding another walled off hill. You want enemies running up hill, getting trapped and then you pelt them with arrows with the height advantage you have

    Hahahahahaha, oh man, I saw youtube load up from across the room and I was like "Holy shit, he read all the comments!" Shit made me laugh out loud. Good on yah, Kage!!! I plan on doing the same. Also borrowed your idea of a workbench shack on the pier. Looks really nice. You may spend a lot of time agonizing over building plans, but some of your ideas really do pan out.
    Now, please, for the love of Odin, repair all those nasty discolored planks inside your house. XD

    When placing the floors near your walls you could rotate the floor to match the walls in angle, then use smaller 1x1 floors to fill in any gaps and the floor will just turn with the wall cleanly

    • @Harry_Holliday

      Ok spoke to soon on the matching floors with walls😂

    It is pretty nice to work out the shape of holes like your moat by using the level ground tool once you have got the "base" of your moat done

  • @steffenseiffarth3548
    @steffenseiffarth3548 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The base appears to be fairly large, so there might eventually be enemies spawning inside your Walls.
    Luckily the event mobs always seem to come from outside, so the moat / spike walls (later stone walls) will keep most of them away

  • @dcsobral

    If you used the 1m pillars on the stairs top, you'd be able to look underneath them. I use 4m pillars instead, which will go directly underground, and if I need more than 4m, I probably need to raise the ground anyway.

    After your attack! I'll be building a Moat myself! Complete with a wall and fighting walkway like you have! Not taking any chances lol Had a thought. About building a regular bridge with a gate on each end for ease of access. I may put a few of those in. (to see how it works)

    • @martinarscott3524
      @martinarscott3524 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I did, just 1 bridge with gate at each end, trolls didn't find it, they gave up trying to get in rather quickly :)

    @22:40 My base build is rectangular so it is easier to place a corner towers for defense. Each tower is about 10 m high, with a roof and has a plank half bridges on the sides overlooking the moat. That way I can shoot down the lenght on the moat. Big problem is that the creatures gather beneath me, so I have to change the towers. Tested on greydwarfs so far ...

    if you use core wood poles it supports the wood a lot better and if you use stone for supports it turns whatever is on it into a foundation

  • @michaelstoddard4608
    @michaelstoddard4608 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey kage, those corner pieces along the wall you can actually turn the ceiling to match the new angle of the wall and place it up by snapping to the wall, not the ceiling piece before it

  • @celticpanther0637
    @celticpanther0637 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    To avoid all the painful ground leveling work in between the base and the walls I suggest making it all a wooden floor, i.e. porch. Use the half walls to frame it like you did the floor of the house.
    Out of all the survival game favorites of yours which has the best building mechanics?

    man i had 3 invasions on my base in 2 hours, first i had 6 drakes, then i got flame guys, and then 6 big trolls came.. having stone walls and shooting towers helps a lot! Takes many many hits for them to break the stone wall, you would literally have to be AFK.

    you can literally spin the floor pieces at an angle to match the angle of the palisade walls. You don't have to place floor pieces on exactly 90 degree angles.

    You have to make your moat deep enough to be a troll pit so when the trolls attack and they will they get trapped and you can just pick them off from above if the stakes at the bottom don't get them.
